Ribann's Jango Fett (Finished March 2012)

I am soooo close to being done with my Jango. I'm dumping pics of what I have so far so I can get some feedback. The rest of the pieces hopefully will arrive by the end of this month and I'll be finished. I was trying to delay making this thread until I had everything, but I thought better to get some constructive criticism before piecing the last of it together. Some things to note: 1) I have not weathered the rub n buff on my boots, 2) the cod/holsters/thighs you see in the picture will be replaced by Cruzer's awesome stuff, 3) Flightsuit/upper armor/flak jacket will be by Bobamaker, 4) I have MR Westars which I didn't include a picture of except in the big photo.

Thanks go out to A LOT of you guys who have put up with my questions about little details here and there (saint_nasty, Mandalorian Guard, Mullreel, to name a few). Huge thanks to Seeker since I've tried my best to copy him and beat him over the head for as much information as possible (haha). Thanks to everyone who has made or helped in getting me any piece of my armor. I'll keep this thread updated when the last of it arrives

So here is my stuff or soon-to-be stuff, from head to toe:

    1) Helmet made by Asok; Painted by Saint_Nasty
    2) Flight Suit by Bobamaker
    3) Flak Jacket by Bobamaker
    4) Collar/Shoulder/Chest/Ab Armor by Bobamaker
    5) Gauntlets by Cruzer
    6) Gloves by the brand Merona at Target
    7) Girth by TLobe00 (this was a beauty when I got it!)
    8.) Ammo Belt by Seeker
    9) Cod Armor by Cruzer
    10) Holsters by Cruzer
    11) Thigh Armor by Cruzer
    12) Knee Armor w/ darts by Dark-Side (currently have some from an unknown maker)
    13) Shin Armor by Cruzer
    14) Boot Armor by Cruzer
    15) Jetpack by Man of War
    16) Back Armor by Cruzer

    Extras:
    15) Master Replicas Westars
    16) Leather Helmet Gasket by friend
    17) Jetpack Harness V3 by Seeker

I'm curious if any of you Jangos use a mic system? If so, how do you do it and what parts do you use? Hopefully they are not discontinued (like a banana amp from Radio Shack). What works? I was thinking about getting this, but have no idea exactly how I'd rig it up:

Amazon.com: Aker Voice Amplifier 10watts Black MR1506, Portable, for Teachers, Coaches, Tour Guides, Presentations, Costumes, Etc.: Electronics

Also, if you have something that works, pics would be uber nice!

I have never used a mic system, but I think it would be handy. It is difficult to communicate in the helmet.

Mostly I just try not to talk, since my Texas drawl sounds nothing like Temura.

They are Bedford STUs. They are no longer made. I bought them off of a guy on here for quite a shiny penny. The boot armor is made by Cruzer.

    Re: Ribann's Jango Fett

Thanks go out to Cruzer for my big update today: holsters, thigh, and cod armor.

This has allowed me to start assembling some pieces in preparation for the last package to arrive.

    Pics:

    Here is the trimmed codpiece:

    Thighs...

Attached holsters to cod and installed snaps for the jetpack harness...

Haven't attached the thighs yet, but here is what it will look like:

    All together:

I was going to take apart Cruzer's holster and rig it up the way Seeker has his, but I got scared and decided not to. Updates still to come!

Movement and appearance. The old cod piece I had was like the way Cruzer and others make theirs. The "wings" on the codpiece do not show (or should not show). Seeker has his trimmed and it makes sense to me now that I've put everything on. Much easier to move my legs around and now I won't have them poking out

Holsters dyed. Thighs attached. Girth attached.

Everything is a little tight around the waist right now. Hopefully some regular jogging will help with that.

    You and me both!

    But man, everything looks great!

Did you ever order that mic system? I'd want to run something too once I get my suit together.

Thanks! I just need to do more cardio. I eat healthy, but just don't get around to much cardio :p

As for a mic, I ordered one from eBay for $10 that was a complete joke. I tried emailing several people on the 501st website who have pictures with a mic on. Most of them have told me they pretty much clip the amp to their ammo belt. Fortunately for us Jangos, we don't have to interact as much with the crowds, as say, a Darth Vader would. Otherwise, the only place I can think of hooking up an amp outside of my helmet would be my jetpack.

For now, I'm going to forgo the mic :-/

i put together a helmet contained voice amp system using a cheap halloween voice changer. i gutted the entire thing, jumpered the connections so it was just the voice amplifier, soldered in a new mic and a switch, then hotglued everything into place inside the helmet. i like the set up so much i'm going to do it with my boba helmet when i get done painting it. i plan on taking lots of pictures during the process and may even shoot a video of the process.

    Re: Ribann's Jango Fett

I bought one of those radio shack white amps and just gutted it and put the board and speaker behind my chest plate... I also (with my last helmet) had put the speaker in the bottom of the helmet skirt, it worked but didn't look all that pretty, lol.

I am going to try the thinner amp from the 501st member with the wireless mics and amps and try fitting it behind my chest plates as well.

I know some people do the jetpack thing, but I just don't want to talk out my behind... I do that enough as it is, lol

as far as the flight suit, I used the do a little till you like it method. I just added some purple a little at a time. Then I used a light bleach solution to weather it.

Alright. So it took me roughly 1 hour to get everything on for the first time--except back armor and jetpack. Obvious it would be quicker and less stressful to have a helper putting on your armor.

Doing a Jango as opposed to a Jawa is definitely a commitment. So many minor things to adjust....

I agree with Seeker! Even though Jango is much cleaner compared to Boba, adding that weathering or battle damage can really make armor feel real and believable. Sweet costume by the way!

Having some trouble with the zipper creeping up. Do you guys just velcro your vest to your harness/flightsuit or something (to hide the zipper)?

Here a pic of what I'm talking about:

Maybe I didn't do something right because it was around 1am when I finally finished and I was tired. Any suggestions? (sorry for the trippy picture)

You have the chest piece and range finder on the wrong side.

    Just kidding.

In my jumpsuit, I have one of those sewn in snaps. So it doesnt show cuz its underneath.

    Re: Ribann's Jango Fett

So I suited up 100% today with the help of my gf. After looking at the pictures, I must say it looks differently than what I had in my mind. I see things I need to tweak (e.g. change the color of the flight suit). I suppose I can't be that hard on myself seeing as this was the first time for me to put it on. I did forget to snap the jetpack harness to the cod piece, which might account for the large gap between the girth and ab armor. Still don't really know what I'm going to do about the collar area.

Gimme feeback. What needs to change? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm certainly no expert, the one thing to me that stands out (aside from what you mentioned already) is the thighs may need to be placed more to the center. To me, and it's only my opinion, is that they are too far off to the side.

Looks awesome, though! I can't wait to do the same thing!

I love it! I know it's not a big thing but, in my opinion, the jumpsuit could be faded out a little more. Maybe if you weather it with grey dye or something to tone it down but totally up to you man. As it stands, it's a really great get up!

Yeah, the whole thing just stinks....you should pack it up and send it all to me so you can start over

Just kidding, it looks great! Again, I'm no expert, but I don't notice anything else. I'm sure some of the Jango veterans can help much more than I!

Wow, fantastic. I'll be happy if mine comes out half as good as yours. I do think the Jet Pack is supposed sit a little higher up, but then again... what do I know?

Can I ask what you are wearing underneath the helmet? It looks like you didn't go with a skirt. (I'm not going with a skirt, after reading about all the complaints about heat / oxygen)

I definitly like a bit more purple to the FS, and some fading. The girth needs to come up for sure. The jetpack needs to come up several inches. Think about the fact that you wouldn't want the jets firing off on your backside. If you bring it up much higher on the backplate it will sit more up and down with your back.

And there is no Jango thong, that is only a Boba thing.

Thank you. You are right about the jetpack sitting up a bit higher. I forgot to attach the front elastic straps of Seeker's harness to my cod piece, which would lift up the girth and the jetpack.

I bought a painter's hood at a local hardware store and dyed it. It isn't too hot. I had one of my good friends make the skirt, but I could barely breathe after installing it. I'm going to be sweating enough as it is, so I need the air circulation to my face

Sounds good When I suit up again I'll make these changes. I guess I just make a bleach water solution and dip the flight suit in it?

instead of dipping it, put the bleach solution in a spray bottle. Hang the flight suit up and mist it. Then wash it to get the bleach to stop. Repeat this until you hit the tone that you want. I did this with about a 10 to 1 mix of water to bleach and it worked well.

    Thanks Dynamic

So I started to adjust the things I needed to adjust:

    1) Move thighs more inward (easy fix)
    2) Move girth higher to close the gap between ab armor
    3) Change flight suit color (not an easy fix)

By the way, I am almost 6'1". I notice that Temuera Morrison was around 5'7". Is there anything you tall Jangos do to work out the proportions? I notice my neck really sticks out, and that partly due to my height. I notice a lot of the Jango around here have their helmet pretty flush with their collar armor.

I do have a big head. Perhaps an Asok CC isn't the right helmet for me? Maybe I need something bigger?

Thanks again everyone for the feedback.

I agree. The jumpsuit is looking much better than before. The color isn't as strong and looks faded like it's needed a serious wash or two due to intense bounty hunting.

Weather it's Boba or Jango, taking time to work with the jumpsuit like that can really pull a troopers outfit together. Looks awsome man!

Ad a little hint of heathering on the jumpsuit, and you'll be good.

    Nice turnaround.

the jumpsuit looks much much better dude, I love it! I would be surprised if you didn't get 501st status! The only thing that might mark some points down would be the creases in your belly armor. Both Jango and Boba had the same smooth curvature if I remember right but that could be an easy fix depending.

Good luck. You should be proud!

Hey! those gauntlets are on backwards... and so it the range finder, you have it on the wrong side of the helmet just kidding man.

Yeah looks good, the only critique I see if that the collar needs to sit flatter and the thighs may be a smidge to close to the cod piece and could be dropped (towards your knees) about an inch or half an inch... but those are minor things, it looks awesome man!

    - No, Jango had the hard edges on the sides of the belly plate.

Okay, well, I am kinda standing at a angle, so that might account for why they look so close in, Mullreel. I will double check tomorrow though

TLobe, as soon as I took that photo I attached an extra snap to each side of the collar armor to make it sit flatter. Looks much better

I think I will drop the thighs down a tad.

Thanks for the critique everyone. I will post photos again after I receive my BH status.

Even without adjusting the minor suggestions above, I don't foresee you having a problem at all getting a BH designation in the 501st... as for the helmet size you mentioned above, I believe the helmet should sit between the clavical/trapezious muscle area when wearing without armor, so the width looks pretty good, but yeah it does sit a tad high on your neck. Cruzer's BKBT is a bit bigger, so sometime down the road you could try upgrading to one of those (you can always sell whichever you don't end up using )

I don't really know why it sits high on me. I purchased the helmet off of a guy on ebay without knowing who Asok, Saint Nasty, or the dented helmet was. The helmet is slightly warped on the left side, but I don't know if that effects how it should sit.

I did pick up that BKBT CC lid that Cruzer was selling not too long ago. We'll see what works

    Re: Ribann's Jango Fett

Just did a three day troop in Seattle (Emerald City Comic-Con) as my first trooping event. I've already taken a heat gun to my collar armor (to shape it a little better to my build) and tons of other little tweaks. Overall, I did great and felt fine. Drank plenty of water

As for tweaks, I'm still looking forward to working out the "case of the high hat Asok lid". Maybe my BKBT will cover that. The collar area is still REALLY bothering me, but I'll figure something out. I always had to have someone adjust it or tuck in my paint hood. Anyway, you'll find some pics of me scattered in the following albums. Enjoy!

Also, it looks like me and some others were famous enough to make it onto the Geeks Are Sexy website:

I think the only thing I see is that your shin seems to be getting pushed up by the top of your shoe, but that is hard to adjust/plan for when you have a picture with your foot up like that.

Thought I'd give my old thread a bump. My suit has progressed tremendously since I first put it on. Here is a comparison shot of the first time I suited up vs a troop this last weekend:

My only advice after coming this far is to keep on what you're doing. Keep upgrading your suit when you can. Keep striving for screen accuracy. The next major upgrades for myself will be a LSFU flightsuit and flak jacket. That should come in October.

And a cool shot that a friend snapped and stylized:
