I just traced my helmet & made a pattern from it where I wanted the neck hole & individual panels. Then I had to use this to make the construction templates with the seam allowances. Sew everything togther, add velcro & you're set. This is very time consuming & I really can't elaborate on the steps listed because that is it. It is alot of work & you have to be familiar with sewing & pattern making. Email me at vandkcenerini@shaw.ca for more details.;)

Hey Arturo, first off, sweet armor, I saw it at Celebration II. Secondly, how did you weather you'r helmet? what did you use for the black scuffing? It's perfect whatever it is!
-
Merged: Re: Finally finished my Jango helmet and armor!!
Thanks man. I weathered my armor by dabbing and just wiping around acrylic paint made by Liquitex. You could bye them at any art supply store. Its the ivory black. What i did was getting a paper towel wet then dip in the acrylic paint then move around until the water deludes. Go softly with the paint dont put to much. Work slow.
hope it helps.

Merged: Tips on converting a '97 DP Boba to a Jango? Anyone?
Hi! My name's Jason and I do post occassionally on the RPF. I've been around there for 3 years but still far from being "famous" there ;) Although I do spend a lot of time at BOTB (Brotherhood of the Bat---I'm the guy who made the board) and also at www.unofficialbatman.com
I live right outside Indianapolis and I recently finished my trooper armor and had an awesome time doing the Wizards of the Coast promotion run on Thursday and also working at C2!
Seeing the Jango's at C2, I first have to say AWESOME job!!! Especially whoever it was that had that pistol twirling thing before you stick it in your holster down pat ;) Yeah, I saw you!!! :p lol
Anyway, I'm thinking of doing a Jango suit but haven't done much research on it at all. I've tried to read most of the posts here and I didn't see anything on this subject other than paint schemes, etc. (which that was very helpful!) :)
I have a '97 DP Boba helmet that I got a ways back. I've already cut out the visor and basically it's set on my shelf ever since then. I just never got around to replacing the visor, repainted, etc....but now I'm glad I didn't! Because from my understanding, there are some that fill in the dent, sand off the..umm...thingy on the right side of the helmet (yes, thingy is a technical term) ;) and then paint the helmet to match Jango's. I was just wondering what is used to fill in the dent? It's a putty of some sort, I do believe, you let it harden then sand it, correct? Also any tips on modifying this helmet?
Sorry if I'm coming off as very unknowledgable on all this but..well...honestly I am ;) lol Any suggestions, tips, etc. you would like to share, please do as I'm certainly open to any of them :)

Here's my Helmet.
http://www.geocities.com/fettsbounty2/jango_mann3.jpg
This is also a DP '97. As for filling in the dent, one word, BONDO. This stuff is great, it's a plastic body filler mainly used for cars but it has become a great friend to all proppers around the world! :p You can pick it up at any Auto Parts store (heck, even Wal-Mart sells it), a small can for about $7-9 bucks. Just follow the directions on the label, fill in the dent and sand the bondo flush with the surface of the helmet. Just make sure you scuff up the dent really well before applying the Bondo. I can't really give you any tips on painting the helmet because I didn't paint it :) But I'm sure some of the other guys (Seeker?) can help you out. Welcome to the board and I hope you enjoy your stay :D

Try that Rub N' Buff that they used! I got some on Friday, and it really looks great! I tried it on a Rubies blaster handle, no re-painting or anything, and it looked VERY good! I put it on the helmet, VERY good! So I went anhead and out it all over the rest of the armor pieces! I used to have problems with the holster leg straps wearing the paint out on the thigh pieces, hopefully this may solve that problem?

FettsBounty.... Thats one of the best shaped 97's I've seen!!
Did you do any mods as far as reshapeing the shape???
I just picked up a white 95 helmet to start my Jango maniquinn.

Merged: Re: Tips on converting a '97 DP Boba to a Jango? Anyone?
I didn't make any modifcations at the shape of the helmet. It came that way! I bought it at Target when they sold the DP masks. The odd thing about this one is that it appears to be pulled from a DP Deluxe. It's got that ''chipped paint'' look to it, unlike the other '97 helmets I've seen. Maybe it was part of limited run of some sort?

Merged: "finished" helmet, plus gun
Well, finished until I can get a nice, accurate sized, fiberglass one. This is with the Rub N' Buff.
With and without flash (the flash really brightens up the lighter blue)...
http://members.aol.com/dvader1031/images/helmet1.jpg
http://members.aol.com/dvader1031/images/helmet2.jpg
And back and inside, with lining
http://members.aol.com/dvader1031/images/helmet3.jpg
And here's the finished gun (with missing copper piece above trigger). Most of the gun is resin, but the barrel is metal. I tried the same trick that was used to make the movie suit look like metal, and it worked VERY well. Rub N' Buff was also used on this.
http://members.aol.com/dvader1031/images/jango_gun.jpg
And here's a detail of part of the gun, notice the spun aluminum look...

very nice job.Did I mention I love your lining?
-
Merged: Re: "finished" helmet, plus gun
The helmet is a '95 DP. I've used the RNB on all of the armor pieces, but they don't have the aluminum detail like the gun. I do plan on remaking my entire costume, and forming my own armor pieces from resin/fiberglass. That way, I'll be able to give it the true aluminum detail.
-
Merged: Re: "finished" helmet, plus gun
Did you use the Rub n Buff Silver Leaf or did you also use the black to get the dirty detail?
The only thing I noticed on the helmet is that the dent is still noticeable. Otherwise, looks great. Amazing the color difference with flash and no flash! What colors did you use?
-
Merged: Re: "finished" helmet, plus gun
I used the silver leaf RNB over aluminum spray paint. The black is simply black acrylic paint smudged here and there.
THe lighter blue is Painter's touch Brilliant Blue #1926, and the darker blue is Krylon Regal blue #1901, along with a ton of the Plasticote gloss on top.

Merged: Jango's Helmet is dented!
I just picked up the new Jango at Walmart. It is the final battle figure. First I noticed his head comes off! Then I noticed he has the stubby jet pack. When I put his head back on I noticed it is dented!

Mirax,
Where is the dent??? Someone around here pointed out that he gets bonked going into Slave one after the fight with Obi-wan on Kamino... I saw the movie again last night (only my second time...) and watched to see it for myself.
*BONK*
:doh
If I remember it should be towards the back...
Getting a dent in battle is one thing, getting it because you forgot to duck when the door was closing is an entirely different situation... :o

If I remember correctly, he gets it fightin Obi. He has it when he looses his pack and tries to grab his pistol.

I honestly don't know where in the movie and will definitely be checking for it when i see it again on Sat. However, the action figure is from the final battle on Geonosis and it is dented.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
A Star Wars.Com Homing Beacon last week said officially that it is from when he hits his head on the Slave 1 door. ^_^; Well, guess Boba hasn't quite figured out the controls yet and closed it a bit early on Pop.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
I agree with Blasttech. His jet pack slams against the "curb" thing, and slams his head into the "curb".
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
Opps, misread your question Guri. The dent is in the same spot as Boba's.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
The dents are in the same place, but if you compare Boba's and Jango's, they are totally different kinds of dents. Boba's is circular and jagged, where Jango's is longer and smooth.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
Jango has the dent before he gets on to Slave I. It is not clear how he gets it though. When he loses control and slams into the wall he hits the other side of his head. The thing is you can already see the damage, so it had to happen before the crash. His dent is not like Boba's. Boba's dent appears to be from a blaster shot and is near the front where as Jango's is more to the side/top and looks like he hit something hard and slid the helmet down the pavement scratching it up.
I have the feeling that the damage resulted from something sitting on the cutting room floor. I looks like a really close call with a lightsaber cut. Perhaps Obi got in a close slice and it scrapped across the top of the helmet, but it was edited out for time.

I don't mean to brag but I already have AOTC on video.I have
watched this movie A few dozen times. Please don't think I am
A ***.(I have seen it 6 times at the movies)So lucas has already made his money from me.The dent is made on the Kamino
landing platform. It happens on the platform when he slams into
the ground. He does not hit his head on slave 1.Also the dent
is not in the same place. It appears to me that the dent is on
the left side of the helmet,But is farther back.Say above were
your left ear should be.I hope this helps to clear things up.

The door on the back of Slave I nails him in the head as he is getting on board. There is a sound affect and he reacts to it, it has been acknowledged as a homage to the trooper in ANH hitting his head when entering the control room. But it is not where the damage comes from. He already has it by then.
The dent is exactly where you said it is, on the left side towards the top and over the ear.
Here is a photo for reference:
http://www.starwarsfan.org/prequels/...ango-arena.jpg
The only thing is it doesn't appear he hits that part of his head when he crashes on Kamino.
In the novel, Boba picks up the helmet and takes it with him when he leaves, so it would make sense it is the same helmet.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
O.K. well
I am pretty sure the dent does not come from slave 1s door.
However the video I have is A bootleg and is A little dark.
But the dent is were I said it was.Now that I think about it.
When Jango hits the deck the left side of the helmet is up in the air.

Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
Alright, just did some slo-mo DVD work and got an answer from a friend on the inside.
After the Kamino battle scene, Jango does get the dent from the door of Slave I. However, the mistake that was made by ILM, is that the dent does not stay consitently in the same spot. The door dent was on Jango right hand side of the helmet. This is consistent with the dent seen when Jango captures Anakin in the droid factory. The change comes once they hit the arena, the dent moves from the right side to the left side at the top of the helmet. It stays like this for the rest of the shots. My source says that there is a chance that it will be corrected for the DVD, but it is not a top priority. Apparently they like to leave little things like that in sometimes.
On another note, I just noticed this today, slow-mo style...
When Mace cuts off Jangos head, in the shot where it shows Jangos helmet hitting the ground, just before the helmet enters the shot, there is one shadow that separates into two shadows. One shadow falls off screen, the second follows the helmet to the ground.
Hence, Jango head came out of the helmet before it hit the ground.
Alot of good that gasket did...

Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
While on the subject of Jango's helmet, did anyone else notice that when he fires the rocket on Kamino the range finder is all the way back behind his head? It is down in the 90 degree position but towards the back of his helmet. That would imply the sensor is on the front of the range finder rather than the top.
Weird thing is that would mean when it is down in the front he is looking at his feet. :lol
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
Actually, watch when he fires the rocket at Obi.He kinda head-buts the tower surface then when the rocket goes off,his head jolts back from the recoil.Maybe that's where the dent came from.? If it is,that helmet would NEVER take a blaster hit.LOL
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
I read somewhere, I think in The Art Of AOTC book, Doug Chiang said that when they designed Jango, they always intened it to be Boba's armor too. After he ''inherits'' it, he makes his own little modifications to it, hence the changes to the gauntlets, paint job, etc. So my theory is that Boba keeps the dent to honor his father. The ILM guys just screwed up and put the dent in the wrong spot ;)
Also, a neat little bit of useless information, if you've read the AOTC Visual Dictionary, it says Jango has several sets of armor. That might explain the difference between the ESB and ROTJ suits. :D
-Austin :jango
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
Just watched AOTC again and I can confirm Jango had the dent BEFORE he enters the Slave 1. You can see it if you watch closely when he's climbing back up the side of the landing platform, just after he releases the cord Obi was hanging from.

"So my theory is that Boba keeps the dent to honor his father. The ILM guys just screwed up and put the dent in the wrong spot "
maybe, but do you think he had only one helmet?..He was trained to me a Mandalorian..they have different sets of armor for different jobs..and to have just one helmet would be risky -Jango had two packs and the first one went boom and that one looked a lot like Boba's ROTJ pack..
I say he has two..and they both get dented up..
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
I just got the deluxe action figure and it has a dent, smaller than the Final Battle figure. They are all where Boba's dent is however.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
There is a big chunk of time between AOTC and TESB. Boba probably either got a new helmet or hammered out the old dent. He picked up the new one along the way. The dent on Boba's helmet is obviously a blaster hit. Jango's is more a "I banged my head" kind of dent.
Actually, it is probably just an elaborate joke being put on by George Lucas to make us all go nuts trying to figure it out. He is probably reading this thread and laughing his butt off.
-
Merged: Re: Jango's Helmet is dented!
I think they are different helmets...In the Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire comic Boba gets the dent while fighting with Darth Vader. He shoots Vader and Vader deflects the shot right back at his helmet and it makes the dent..... plus just think... Boba's helmet is green and Jangos is silver. There is also another comic called Jango Fett: Open Seasons that is out and its about the Mandalorian army and some of the Mandalorians have green, some have silver.

Merged: Jango helmet weathering??
How are guys weathering your jango helmets?
Mine is almost all painted (95 reg DP) and now I need to weather it. I have some ideas already, I just want to know what you guys that have finished yours have done.
-
Merged: Re: Jango helmet weathering??
I did a light circular sand with 1500 grit sandapaper to get the swirls that you see in real metal if you look at in in the light. Then I used some acrylic black & rust craft store paint, watered it down slightly, dabbed it on with a stencil brush, dabbed with a sponge to remove the brush marks & make it more random, then dabbed with a rag to remove the sponge marks. You can also get a good effect by giving the piece a wash & wiping most of the paint off. This makes it look as if it has been "cleaned". If you do this technique a couple of times the result is truly great!

Re: Official Thread - Helmet
I'm new here, where are you all getting your Jango helmets? Are they modified Boba helmets? Or have they started selling Jango's?

To answer your question. Most of the people who are making Jango costumes are using Fiberglass ones, however some (like me) are using DP Boba Helmets that are being converted. I know Rubies is makinhg a Jango helmet b8ut from reviews from the board it isnt all that great. As for finding helmets try ebay or ask around the board. Welcome to the board. Hope this helps. Later.

That would be about it. The list goes on if you want goodies though; RF controlled rangefinder servo, voice changer/amplifier, ventilation fans, helmet padding/head harness, & whatever else your imagination can dream up!

Re: Official Thread - Helmet
You'll also have to get rid of the small round circle on the right cheek and fill in the rectangle on the left cheek as well.
neither of those are present on Jango's helmet either.

Go to your local hobby shop that sells R/C cars and plane stuff, most well stocked shops will have pin stripe tape that comes in several different thickness's on the same roll that is all rolled up and packaged in a small clear tube. I have used this on my 1st Jango helmet and other projects and it works great! It'll cost $3-5.

A quick and cheaper way to do pinstriping.. (as I do when I airbrush cars and stuff) is get some masking tape.. and go around the helmet... and then mask off the area you don't want the paint to go.. and leave a area you wan the paint to obviously go.. and start painting.
Works well.. if you got a good eye and a steady hand.. Give it a try.

Re: Official Thread - Helmet
I had all but given upon my Jango costume. All of my armor was a bit off, and I am pretty broke. However, my wife bought me the Rubies helmet today, and voila, I'm re-inspired. The Rubies looks pretty good on me (I guess I have a small head). The only bad things I've noticed are -- there are no black pin stripes (how could they forget THAT), the licensing info is in raised print on the OUTSIDE of the helmet (on the lower back right of the helmet), and the tinted part does not go all the way down in the front (only about half way). So, it's still gonna take some work. But all in all, not a bad deal. I just hope I stick with it this time.
-
Merged: Re: Question re Pinstriping Jango's Helment
Won't the auto pin striping leave a seam? I'd rather use the tape type than paint it (I'm no artist), but I don't want to leave an obvious seam.
-
Merged: Re: Question re Pinstriping Jango's Helment
the stripe on the real jango helmet has a natural seam where it "runs into" the earpiece (the one with the rangefinder). So, yes- there will be a seam, but there is SUPPOSED to be one! Lucky for us, eh?
-
Merged: Re: Question re Pinstriping Jango's Helment
Duh. Maybe I should look before I post, huh? Thanks. Unfortunately, the Rubies earpiece doesn't go up high enough for that. The bottom stripe will hit the finder, but the top won't. But it'll still be hidden behind the rangefinder (until I lower it anyway). Yes, I know what everyone thinks of the Rubies here, but I'm telling you, it looks pretty dang good on me.

I makeing my Jango helmet from a kit of a 95 Boba. How can i get the right ear peice to look right. It should fit into the lower ear part but that just wont work. What do i do to make that happen?
Eric
-
Re: Official Thread - Helmet
You'll have to cut off the pin that the post pivots on & glue the earcap in the lowered position. It should still work fine without the pin because there is an indent for the round part in the helmet & it shouldn't pull out. If you are worried about this you could reglue the pin or go from the inside of the helmet with a screw to the earcap.
-
Re: Official Thread - Helmet
Hay
I know what your saying but what i mean is that it should fit into the lower piece and not stick out.
Eric

Re: Official Thread - Helmet
In that case, you'll have to do what I am doing & either cast a new earcap or trim the original down.

Merged: Jango painting help/adding visor and flare.....
HI guys new here but on the rpf for quite some time, Anyhoo I got a 97 DP in trade I wanted to refinish and trade/sell its not to my liking. I asked the previous owner what type of paint he used and he told me so I sprayed it and it looks good except the silver is smooth in some spos and "dusty" in others... Any reason for this? How long should I let it dry? I plan on rub n buffing it and applying the pinstripes etc... Now is there a way to add flare, and a visor to this helmet? It is already cut to add the visor so that is no problem, I wanted to see if there was something I could get at a local wal mart to use.. I have this helm, just bought a fiberglass fett, a 95 dp I wanna turn into boba, and a rubies deluxe which I may paint and mod after this one. Anyway thanks for any tips you could give me.... Chris

Testor's Metalizer Laquer in stainless steel...that's what I used and it came out pretty uniformly even and quite nice. Then I applied the R&B and it was like....WOW! :suprise
I got the Testor's paint at my local hobby shop. The R&B was from a Michaels' craft store.
You may want to throw in a small fan or two in there also.
You can get two small 12v fans and run them off of two 9v batteries attached to two mini-toggle swithes. I just hot glued all the hardware right up inside the helmet (a DP97
also).
If you need a visor I know a guy who sells them on ebay that
I got mine from. They are really nice and fit well with just a little cutting with a dremmel involved.

All you have to do to add flare is stuff the helmet with some towels until it is flaring the way you like, the stick it in your car when it is hot. Let the helmet warm up real good...I'd say 10 mintues depending on how hot. Take the helmet out with your new flare...the helmet will be real soft at this point. Stick the helmet in the freezer for a while..and when you take it out...BINGO..you have flare. You might have to glue something in the helmet so that it wont go back to it's original shape...it just depends.

Re: Official Thread - Helmet
I wanted to address the dent question. I notice that the posts about that are from last summer, but I wanted to point out this thread:
http://tdh.prop-planet.com/viewtopic...c=4145&forum=1
which is about Jango's gaunlets being reversed. I pointed out how his gauntlets go back and forth on his arms while he's flying up shooting at Obi-Wan. At first they're on the wrong arms, then as he's looking at the pillar they are correct again. They're also reversed again as he crawls up the side of the platform after dropping Obi-Wan.
The reason for this, I would guess (as someone familiar with directing and editing film) is that they filmed it the wrong way, and in editing had to flip the image to make it right. Although with the cgi Jango, who knows anymore. The dent on the helmet may have happened when he crashed after Obi-Wan wrapped the cord around the pillar, as again, the image may have been reversed, thus he hit his head on the correct side to produce the dent, but the editor had to flip it so that the audience didn't get confused as to who was where, etc. If you know anything about directing, you should know about the axis. As I pointed out in that other thread, Star Wars films seem to ignore the axis constantly, so that the editor has to flip the negative (and this is why Imperials have their rank bars on the wrong side, etc). I also wanted to point out that Jango definitely has the dent before getting into Slave One, though I can't tell exactly when he has it. The part I noticed it was as he was trying not to slide all the way down as Obi-Wan was pulling him towards the edge.

Merged: paint for helmet stripes
What kind of paint & color did everyone use for their helmet stripes? I was thinking of using acrylic paint.

Merged: Re: paint for helmet stripes
You might want to try auto pinstriping. I got some at a local auto parts store, kragen or napa i think, and applied it directly to the painted helmet. The pinstriping comes in different thicknesses as well.:thumbsup

Yup, auto pinstripping! I had to re-apply after I rub-n-buffed my helmet- worked great!

Merged: Re: paint for helmet stripes
You got it!! 1/8" pinstripe is the way to go. It's the only thing on jango thats fast and easy. :lol

Merged: Re: paint for helmet stripes
Pinstriping is the only way to go for those stripes. The great thing is that if you start to go out of line, you just peel it back and do it again. With paint, your screwed unless you wipe it off quick enough. That and it would be a real pain to freehand it or mask it.

Hi everyone. What's the color of the auto pinstripe that you used on Jango Fett's helmet? Was it dark blue? Thanks everyone!

Is dark blue okay? I just opened the package before Mirax H said black. I don't think they'll take it back.

Merged: Merged: Pinstriping the Jango helmet
I've never worked with pin-striping before, but I obviously need to learn now that I have a Jango helmet.
My big concern is getting the stripes parallel with the helmet ridge, as well as with each other. Any tips on doing so other than being reeeeeeeally careful?

Just eyeball it and if you goof up, you just peel it back and redo it.
