i think that by making them attach like the marmit jango, would be considerable. By makin around 4 access holes with rubber like rods on the blades, u can push them up and in, pull them out and that should keep them somewhat stable, might wiggle, but there are solutions.

What about using those mega-powerful earth magnets from Lee Valley? They're supposed to have incredible holding power, nothing like the ones at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

You could put a thin steel plate inside the whipcord housing, the smallest magnets in the "claw" housing or vice-versa.

BKBT and Oppi both have these magnets and they seem just kickass strong.

I heard they tried using the on Boba's gauntlets way back in ESB, but they eventually decided not to use them cause he kept hurting himself. ESB Fett is ADHD also.

    Yeah,...I remember my first beer.

Trouble is,...I don't remember the last.

Aluminum would be light enough for the blades. Don't make them sharp. Affix them to an extra housing. Place a solid row of the largest earth magnets possible inside the bottom of the housing via epoxy. Place the steel strip mentioned on the gauntlet via epoxy. Have a plain housing for normal wear, with the same magnet set up. Still thinking on where to store it when not used. If I was doing Jango, I'd try this.

I'd also do a whip cord. You know those retractable black phone wires that wind up into the small disk? Epoxy the disk inside the housing. Cut off the plug. Stick the wire though the hole and attatch your grappler. No it wouldn't be super long, but it would be funtional and kinda cool to just pull out and show off...I think any way. I'm going to try this for my ROTJ gauntlet.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Nov 18, 2002, 10:08 PM - Merged: My Gaunts...where I am at... A LOT OF PICS !! #130

Just wanted to show you guys some update shots of my Gauntlet work. First and foremost, I think you all know who the artist was who originally created these MASTERPIECES ( i do not use that word often when it comes to props, but the original sculpt and craft of these gauntlets are BREATHTAKING and worthy of such a description) and I received these in the kit vacuformed kit forms. I wanted to put together a tutorial for any other who was to get this kit, that's why I took so many pics...and I will put it together...but I am not finished.

So here are some pics and some comments...these are about 80% done as far as getting it to a point where I am satisfied with the bodies of the gauntlets...without further ado :

Here is a the kit as I received it as a vacuform :

I wanted to sharpen the edges a bit more so I bondo-ed the little nasty up !

Did a little sandy sand off the first coat -

I then threw some primer on there and realized that I lost a lot of the etched detailing.

So I etched in more detailing using the combination of exacto and bondo...I then threw on about three more coats of bondo in selected areas of which is not completely done. For the sake of these pics, I did some drilling and attached certain trademark pieces so you guys could orientate yourself with the gauntlet. AS you can see, this is not completely done (about 80%) and you can even see some places where I marked that still need bondo..but this is where I am at and unfortunately I will not be able to get back to them for two weeks (because I have to fly back to Cali)...so I just wanted to share with you guys in the mean time...

With the rocket gauntlet, i simply wanted to see the effect of sanding down the plastic to a crisp edge. In the end, I was not completely satisfied with using this technique because of the fact that I was actually taking away too much from the body for the sake of edging...most likely I will go back and bondo treat this little guy too :

That's all I got for right now...I hope you guys enjoyed it !

Again, thank you to the artist for not only providing me the
resources, but also trusting me in the end.

BTW- these are NOT RA !

As far as bondoing over vac, usually it is something that if you are going to do it, you better reinforce the inside with fiberglass matting and casting resin. Reason being, if the plastic is thin and flexible, it will break your bondo right off...but I found with these gauntlets, the plastic was thick enough so that it didn't flex, almost at all in the detailing areas. So I went ahead and just skipped the fiberglass part...

That dart looks great, did someone do a resin casting run or something that I missed out on?

this is not a resin casting...they are vacuformed pieces...the darts are actually hand ground nails that the artist did !! CAn you believe that !

    Talk about talent.

I was in Walmart looking for a BBQ lighter for my fireplace and found one with a candle snuffer/lighter combo. The metal candle suffer (if thats what its called) is coned shape and is a brass color. It is attached to a wire handle at the tip of the cone and it can be removed. It definitly looks the part for the rocket tip. I freaked when I saw it and did buy it! Has anyone stumbled across the same thing and used a candle snuffer?

Let me try and get pics up. No promises as I have some trouble posting personal pics.

Okay I still can't a friggin pic to go up so.... the next best I can do
These are not the ones but just basically what they look like. Also the one from walmart is a solid brass or brass look with no lines. it's very basic and the slim wire attached to the top can be cut off. The bottom of the snuffer does not "flower out" like these. Just basically straight like a cone. Also, just as shiny!

No problem Spidey! I know how you feel about Wally World! Okay...this is where I found it and I think pretty much all walmarts are the same. It's in the aisle where the bean bag chairs and computer desk, lava lamp section is. You have to look at the end of the aisle and it's hanging on one of those long plastic clips that is attached to a wing panel. It hangs there looking out of place like an "impulse buy" item. There should be a load of them hanging there. I hope that helps!

usually the hanging items are put out by the managers jut sto get them sold. First...PICS!!! then i dont know if the walmarts will have them...but check the candles out everyone...might be a normal accessory, also check for them in crafts!!

Great idea! There are so many shapes to these candle snuffers.
I didn't want to use a plumb bob as they are a little heavy. I can't shape the darn thing and if I did try to make one, then I would have to roll up something like a funnel and shape it from there. what struck me about the snuffer was that it has the shape and color as well as brass metal with no lines on it. What I will do is get the sku # and part # for the item and post it and hopefully it will help.

I don't have any kind of diagram, but it's pretty simple to do.
I know Arturo made one, I'm sure he'll post it as soon as he sees this.
