Newbie also - progress pics
=== June 22, 2006 Updating again with new pics down at the bottom of the page :-).
Finally finished with Rub & Buff and some weathering...

>>> May 3, 2006
Finally done with perhaps what I can call my v.1. Comparison pics of before (a month ago - phone cam) and after (current work - digicam) are now available. Thanks for the words of advice from everyone!
*** Where it started***
Much of this was from a modified MLC Boba armor kit and MLC1 helmet which I will modify at the RF ear piece section. The jet pack was of course MLC. I was lucky enough to be given a used pair of "knucklebones" brand hi-cut shoes which had the correct boot soles. From there I made my own boot top plates, shins and thighs out of styrene which are holding well to my relief.

Thanks a lot for the kind remarks :) . Its such a privelege to be appreciated especially in this highly respected community.
It definitely motivates me to work harder. I will indeed post better photos next week while I start working on the rest of the costume.

Re: Newbie also - progress pics
Coming along very nicely. How tall are you?
-
Re: Newbie also - progress pics
Thanks Cal,
Yup now that I got the digicam back to work I will be taking newer photos of this costume as I get closer to completing the project. (Indeed the previous pics were blurry since only a mobile phone was available then).
PS. The 3P0 isn't mine :) . I'm just helping a friend with the 1st coat.
Skalen,
Thanks, my project is very far from screen accurate and I hope to improve on it piece by piece but for now this will be sort of my springboard. My height is 5'7, err, too short huh?
-
Re: Newbie also - progress pics
not to short at all ,as Jango is about 5'8". My hieght.
Where did you get the gauntlets? i need a set that will fit me.

Oh really? Good. The shoes and helmet (sans the RF) do add some extra inches to that as well so I guess its ok then.
I got a kit from Ruffkintoy (that I looked for in the other threads). Its actually a Boba kit that I modified to Jango to the most of what I can do.
Its styrene with resin accessories. Good Luck Golden Rod.

Re: Newbie also - progress pics
Nice bro! Is it rub n buffed?
-
Re: Newbie also - progress pics
You are right JangoUri, it hasn't been rubnbuffed yet. The RnB that I bought is still in transit from a dealer. For the meantime, I reworked the armor using metal polish rubbed on a coat of heat resistant silver lacquer which fiberglass accepts. It produces also a metal like glare but secondary to rub & buff.
Here are the latest results...

By rubbing along different angles, dull streaks and scratches can be produced which help to recreate weathering.

It also worked well on the jet pack...

I also experienced what the TDH seniors discovered a couple of years ago that at different lighting conditions (indoor, sunlight, flash etc...) the color of the costume especially the flight suit can change from bluish to light purple. The cloth that I settled on somehow gave this effect, not perfect but something purple at least. Its also wrinkle free and partially water repellant.

Having fun now, eager to troop and then proceed to rub&buff when my order arrives :) Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Thanks Cal for the kind words. Yes I used Boba armor for the knees and actually for majority of the other armor parts and helmet made of fiberglass. Its only the thighs, shins and boot spats that I scratch built from styrene. Since I had access to an MLC Boba armor kit closeby (they only provide Boba parts & just the arena jet pack for Jango) I decided to go ahead with my version 1 this way. In fact my gauntlets are also Boba's from RT that I modified to Jango's.
I am not able to go screen accurate/anal-canon for now but I would like to enjoy the product at hand which is fun enough for me.

Re: Newbie also - progress pics
I like it a lot! About how much did it cost you?
-
Re: Newbie also - progress pics
That really looks great esp for being a newbie! I have seen so many really awesome Jangos lately. My only suggestions would be to weather the armor and maybe to trim the chest plates down just a hair. Very well done!!!
-
Re: Newbie also - progress pics
>>>Thanks CoolTD, now that you asked that, I seem to have lost track already how much :doh. Roughly it must be somewhere just under $1,000 at this point, including the cost of time & labor if I may say so.
>>>Hey Thanks Mirax :thumbup. Its certainly inspiring to hear from our well respected moderator. Thank you for the advice and the numerous access to references in this forum. The pioneers made it possible for us newbies to get to this point.
I will study the chest blueprints to trim my current armor. Indeed it looks and feels that the MLC Boba kit that I used is large for me. My current armor already has some moderate weathering (that isn't obvious in camera). It also has a fair share incidental nicks and scratches due to trooping but I will consider adding some more weathering afterwards.
I still remember meeting you and Seeker at C3 (I don't have a JF costume that time though). Regards from us here (from MLC & myself )again :)
