New Jango Helmet! New Pics Top of Thread.

There are not too many options for a Jango helmet & I wasn't happy with just filling the dent of a Boba helmet. This is an extensively modified sculpt that has not had a component or surface reworked or scratchbuilt. What you see is a combination of fiberglass, styrene, resin, epoxy & body filler. I will be making a mold of this later this week so I can cast up a fiberglass copy. PM me if you would like a personal showing.

It's very nice looking, but its still lacking on some Jango details. It still looks like a modified Boba helmet.

What details are missing? It looks unreal to me! Perhaps it would appear different painted up. Good work BKBT.

Firstly, the cheeks/mandibles are off. This is my biggest gripe with the Boba to Jango converted helmets. Jango's cheeks aren't as "deep" as Boba's. It's pretty clear that if you look at the cheek/mandible area on Jango's helmet that it is more "upright" rather than deeply slanted into the helmet. I don't have one specific picture which shows this...because it is pretty evident to me at least in a number of photos.

Secondly, the profile view isn't quite right. Look at this picture: http://pluto.spaceports.com/~lms/ms6.JPG

BKBT's helmet appears to have too much forward slant to it...and in the other profile picture it looks like the dome is too high. Also, the upper earpiece which is supposed to be flush with the lower earpiece, seems to be sticking out a little bit too much...but maybe it sticks out more on certain shots (i.e. different helmets...there were 4 hero helmets alone).

Don't get me wrong, I think BKBT's helmet is quite nice looking but it hasn't reached near the level of accuracy that Boba helmets have.

I'm sorry, but I can see no major differences between Jango's and Boba's bucket. Ok, there's this earpiece modification, but I doubt that Jango's cheeks aren't as "deep" as Boba's and … man, we're talking about a Marrow_Sun: with the Mystery Helmet, the most accurate Fett bucket available …

If you look at direct comparisons between the 2 from all angles, they are definitely different.

With all due respect to Marrow_Sun, he didn't sculpt the Mystery Helmet...

There are many many differences between a Jango helmet and a Boba Helmet.

BKBT's helmet is great looking and a good alternative to the Boba helmets out there. It doesn't have any crookedness or warpage in the T-Visor, the ear details are already correct, and the dent is already filled in. I personally prefer judz dwedd's helmet, but outside of that I'd highly recommend BKBT's helmet. It's not perfect, but its better than using a regular Boba helmet.

Look at this image attached and look at the red lines. I realize they aren't the same angles completely, but its irrelevant as you can see the difference is quite great. Make sense?

All points are valid to some degree. It will prolly be more a matter of taste obviously! I've tried on one of Judz Dwedd's buckets and while I dig his work and skills, the bucket way small for my taste ,but non the less a great piece!

Also, exacerbating the differences in BKBT's photos is a fair amount of "pin-cushioning."

Attached is a comparison of RS's original Fett plug showing a photo taken by the original owner and a photo later taken by PhotonMagic. To date, it's the best example of how photos can become distorted.

Another thing... when you wear this thing, people in general are going to either go... "Wow! Cool! You're Boba Fett (regardless of color, version, whatever)"...or say this..."Wow! A Stormtrooper! Cool!" and we are a over-thunkin' it! HA!

Still looks cool despite the longer face, or rounder dome, or too deep cheek indentations, (or different focal lengths of the respective cameras, or lens angle, or aperture length), or reference, or whatever.

Chew on that...and the current color is still cool!

    Later Friends,

    John

It is good to see that reference pic side by side. In fact, it was one of many that I used. It seems to me that there is a great deal of difference in the helmet shapes depending on which publicity photos you are looking at. I have another pic that shows the dome quite rounded where the one in the above has a bit of a flat to it. Photography probably plays the major difference in the photos. Looking at the above comparison again, my helmet looks a little squashed in the sides & the dome is rounded too much. Just a trick from the camera or digital artifacts? I am no expert in that field but the helmet proportions are distorted a bit.

Use the highest resolution on your camer then try to take the pictures as far away from the helmet as you can. Then crop the picture of just the helmet. the closer to the helmet you get, the more the helmet will be distorted.

    Re: New Jango Helmet!

You know the fact of the matter is BKBT has done a amazing job of creating a clean and detailed Jango helmet. There are few helmet conversions on the market that consist of more than filling in the dent and sanding off the borden connector. I view this helmet as a huge stepping stone on the path to obtaining perfection. Instead of picking apart depth and angles we as a community should reflect apon the positive details and improvmennts. I believe that this helmet will be the most "wearable" helmet available. Some of the details with this helmet that inspire me are the overall clean lines, the nicely rebuilt earcaps and rangefinder, well done visor section and keyholes. I personally can not wait for someone to paint one of these bad boys up and hopefully I'm lucky enough to obtain one myself! Keep up the great work!

That is sick man ! Real sick.

I believe in what Tyler is saying...if you look at that one pic compared to the side pic, the distortion makes sense.

BK- can you do what Seeker said...pull back. I think we will see a much better representation of the shape of your helmet.

As for the moment, I am still blown away ! (PM sent !)

This is not a perfect comparison by a long shot, but this should start to give you a hint of the differeces in the cheeks between boba and jango.

    Re: New Jango Helmet!

Thank you Brak's...that comparison shows some of the major differences. As for the rest of you, I can't believe some of your reactions. I thought this forum was for achieving accuracy and perfection. At least I know that's the case in the Boba forums where constant photo comparisons are made and criticisms are taken to heart. In this forum the motto (with the exception of a couple of people) seems to be "it's good enough."

I realized the pin cushion effect but that is not relevant to the cheeks as you can tell from other photos of BKBT's helmet the cheeks are still deeper like Boba's. And its still a great alternative to Boba helmets. If I had the money i'd probably purchase one myself, but i'm just trying to give BKBT and others feedback for future improvements.

p.s. My theory about the differences in the cheeks is that Temuera has a fat head (like myself) so they had to make more room inside by making the cheeks shallower.

Thanks for the pic, Braks. That photo clearly shows that, yes, there are differences between the helmets, as we knew, however, even with all the changes, it's very clear that the helmet started out as some sort of Boba helmet and not an entirely new sculpt.

The question is...considering the size of Jango's helmet is smaller than Boba's helmet...then what Boba helmet did they start out with?

I am not convinced the overall size is smaller. The dome is def different and I believe it may be smaller and as tyler pointed out, I believe the bottom has been trimmed, and a great deal has been reworked ut I do not necessarily believe the helemt is ACTUALLY smaller.

    Re: New Jango Helmet!

There is a problem with that idea though. Temuera Morrison is 5'7" and Jeremy Bulloch is 6' but the helmets, proportionately look the same size. Actually in some shots Jango's helmet looks even smaller proportionately to Jango than Boba's does to Boba. How can that be if they are the same size?

I think build wise, Temura is broader than Jeremy and that would allow him to wear the same helmet as Jeremy and have it look proportinately ok. The shorter dome would also help too.

I believe there is an abundant lack of concurrence by the esteemed Fett-experts on this forum about shape. There also appears to be a lack of consistent comparison of helmets from a variety of sources. As posted in this string, I see two images (on several occasions) that are compared in replies or remarks...but the positioning in the X, Y or Z axis may be off by as much as 2? or more in one or all of the axises, which makes for a flawed analysis, hence opinion, therefore making many of the arguments and complaints moot.

Also, in many of these images, there is noticeable inconsistency and unverifiable conformity or uniformity of image collection, and without quantifiable or logically undertaken analysis protocols that pertain to the afore mentioned focal length, camera position, pincushion of digital images-versus film-versus screen cell scans, aperture length, lens angle and other factors in relation to the helmets in their variety of settings...how can a picture posted on TDH convince us "Hey, that helmet is wrong". My DP 95 is wrong...that is for sure!

As we know, a 35 mm camera or digital mid-level consumer quality digital still cameras, coupled with an array of consumer-quality laser measuring devices (and the likelihood these measuring devices were fabricated in a less than perfect clinical or scientific setting - possibly using unsophisticated materials to attach the calibration array to the measuring camera - possibly even duct tape or dremel tools - nonetheless a clever, yet crude tool utilized by an eager prop maker, but not a person with valid scientific, analytical and pertinent photographic training in calibration and measurement of such devices and the intended subject).

But...I may be wrong too, and everyone else is right.

By your logic then, nothing can be compared because none of the comparisons are perfect. I'm going to disagree with you that the DP-95 is wrong. Since no two pictures can be compared, then I'm going to have to say the DP-95 is just as great as Marrow_Sun's helmet.

Sorry, man. The cheeks are different. As well as a number of things.

    Re: New Jango Helmet!

Looking at the side by side comparison of Brak's pics, I do see differences in the helmets. If the pics are overlayed then you can see that the details are not as great as one might expect. I'm going to throw something else out there to consider; PAINTING could play some part in the cheek difference as well. I know from experience that you can change a detail a bit by not following the lines exactly. I did this to correct some inconsistancies when painting my old helmet & jet pack.

I am not trying to defend my work, you either like it or don't. I KNOW it is not perfect but at least I will now have a clean helmet with sharp lines & no filler & I am happy with the end result.

Anyways, I'm done. BKBT, your helmet is awesome. I was just a little disappointed that the cheek difference wasn't addressed because nobody so far has made that adjustment. I thought maybe I could give some feedback but I didn't realize it would turn into this. You did a good job though, and it still is mighty nice looking.

Foxbat, I meant no harm, you and I were just presenting our individual points of view...and it is never done, because Marrow Sun just came out with a new bucket and you and I need to go over to his string and debate his interpretation of the precious bucket that we care so much about. At least we do not have to discuss such mundane topics as politics, or the degredation of the morals of people in general...all I know is I am a bucket head, and if I had enough cash I would buy a MS-1, this BKBT, the new MS-2 and your DP95, or Mystery helmet or whatever you wear on your suit!

Stay cool, and I will see you on the MS2 string.

Well I went back & reworked a couple of small details. I closed in the mandibles a little more & corrected the right ear cap so the rangefinder post would stand vertical. I'm sure I could go on forever with this but if I am ever going to have this ready for C3 I'll have to stop. My silicone is ready to go so hopefully by the end of the week I'll be almost done the mold.

Wow are you guys actually arguing about this whole thing? Well whatever its over, that was weird... I am very impressed with the craftmanship and prefectional efforts put into this helmet, and would hope to atleast see one someday.

Hey SEEKER, are you going to put the Arena dent into yours again?

well keep in mind that diet and lifestyle in the formative years can really really make a difference!
I'm sure that Boba was very well taken care of on Kamino, as far as nutrition goes, etc. Jango, however, probably had it a bit more rough (given the looks of him), which I'm sure stunted his growth a bit.

Well, y'know, the helmets in the ref pics could also , quite possibly be a stunt or other version that Lucasfilm saw fit to put in their museum/tour. Who really knows "which" is the accurate. And besides that, whenever Big George decides it's not the right version, he'll change it!

Anyway, Extremely beautiful and clean helm, I'd love to have one on my shelf! Do you have a price and produdtion timeframe?

    Keep up the great work,

At the end of the day its a great effort in trying to recreate Jangos bucket, I converted my mystery helmet into a jango and although I was pleased with it, it took alot of work, with bondo and sanding and basically re-building the earpieces, I say EXCELLENT WORK!!

    How much by the way?
