New holster assembly

Very nice. One of the reasons we cant get the exact color on the browns is because they used predied material. the never used just regular dyes. Thats why our dyes always look redish. I hate it! but ohh well. maybe one of these days I'll find the exact color and redo my whole rig.

Cruzer your doing a spectacular job man! keep it up. Your making me redo things.;)

making me redo things.;)

"redo things"...LOL! that's a good one...quit messing with my head.

I need your secret to making that d-ring piece...I know you're holding out bro! ...a little birdie told me.

Thanks for the comps Turo, I'm just trying to catch up to your dust!

Cruzer...

I'm not really into Jango.. but the more I see of your work, the more I am tempted to start a Jango costume!

Awesome work my man! (y) (y)

Seeker, I just want to know your secret. hehehe!

Ripcode, thanks bro.

Here are some leather stain samples for comparison. This was the best pic out of the bunch that seemed to best capture the subtle differences.

I'm still hunting for that perfect match...so let me know what you guys think.

The stain used on the holster assembly in this thread is the second one from the left and it is the only "all in one" stain and sealer of the bunch. All the rest are the others Tandy had in "medium brown".

Up close and personal, the one on the far left seems to have the most orange hue and the one on the far right seems to have the least orange hue.

GBH, let me know what you think bro, like I said I can make another one this weekend with a diff. color and just take the one currently made for my own.

Hey Cruzer!

I think for me it's a toss up between the second one on the left and the first one to the right of it! BUT, I also know that Fiebings Brand makes a Dark Brown leather dye, as a matter a fact, it's the color that Pavespawn uses on his beautiful Ammo Belts, I have one of these by the way and the the color in combination with the sealer he uses, WHOA!  :love ! I've believe he uses a Med. Brown w/ a matte sealer on the ROTJ and Dark Brown w/ a gloss sealer on ESB version. I've included his photos from the latest run he's doing in the Cargo Hold. Hope this helps!(y)

THX:cheers

The second one from the left is the one I used on the holster assembly seen earlier in the thread and it's a stain/sealer combo. The third one from the left is Fiebings medium brown. Tomorrow I'll see if the local craft store has some Fiebings dark brown and if so post more comparison pics. Personally I wouldn't go with a gloss sealer on a Jango belt, a matte at the most. But hey it's your belt so it's your call boss.

Yeah, Pavespawns belts are beautiful. I wish I would have picked one up when they were still available...just to have.

I'll take a set should you ever decide to make these for folks, only with all black leather. In another month I could have all the leather I want for great prices at a twice yearly flea market in June and September-I just don't have the skill to make something like this holster set as you have. At least not yet anyway...

I would try using dark brown dye applied with a soft cloth. You can also try to lightly dampen the leather with water or deglazer. Water will tend to make that red color come out. Either way, the damp leather makes the dye go on more evenly. That being said, I dyed some leather with dark brown and no water and it came out very close to what you are looking for. When you dye, don't press down anymore than you have to. You will use more dye, but it will come out more even and surprisingly not as dark.

Thanks Pavespawn, I'll pick up some of that oil dye tomorrow and do a few test runs. I've considered using it but the guy at the leather store didn't recommend it because it took longer to dry and he said the stain penetrated deeper and therefore would make the leather stiffer. I'll try it though because it might be good since I'm going an oz. thinner for the holster tops on this second run to hopefully make the wetforming easier.

Thanks,
Cruzer

Cruzer, try applying the dye with an airbrush. The guys at Tandy gave me that idea. I've done it on a few projects, the results were fantastic. If I get a chance I'll post some pic's.

Found a pic.

I wonder how much stiffer it will make it? My test piece was small so I couldn't tell.
