New BKBT Jango Knees

This was a project that was started some time ago & then benched & during my time off at Chrstmas I decided to revive it again. I am sending these off to be molded & cast. Hopefully these will be cast in a flexible material

I'll post some progress shots over the next day or two if anyone is interested.

Who or what is Hyperfirm?

Attached are a few progress pics & you can see how the new version is in relation to the first version I made a few years ago. The width will be the same so if you were able to wear my old knees then the new ones shouldn't be a problem & if they do get made in Hyperfirm rubber then they will be able to flex with you. They might even have an internal armature that can be bent to the desired shape. I'll leave that up to the experts to decide. As far as the darts, I imagine they will be rubber as well so they can take a knock without breaking. I have the dimensions made up, just need to get the prototype machined!

I am taking a backseat in this hobby & have retired from producing any parts since I just don't have the time anymore. That is why my molds have been passed on to good hands. I did have some time off during Christmas & this was a project that was already half way done.

Hyperfirm or not I am so in for a set.

Very nice indeed BKBT love your work and this just shows how good and how much you love doing it, cant wait to see the end production pics and if ur doing them in hyperfirm I would deffo be interested in a set.

BKBT asked me to post progress pics of his knee project, so here they are as of tonight. The detailing on these pieces is very nice and clean, which makes them all the easier to work with. I'm hoping to pour silicone by mid-week and then I'll begin making the solid resin casts that'll be prep'd for Hyperfirm production.

I'm in for a set.

Thanks for the good question. Right now I'm estimating around $125. I still need to look into making masters for the darts, if I can't find a supplier that would give me permission to replicate their darts in rubber. However, I'm thinking aluminum darts with a glue in installation might look more appealing.

Hehe. Cool. My darts from Fabrizio should be on the way soon. These would go nicely with them.

I'm curious to see how well the hyperfirm takes rub n buff.

They should work as long as the large darts have the shaved side, similar to Dark-Side's special darts. I happen to have some of his special darts and they fit BKBT's knees perfectly. If you have the regular set, I'm sure a little time on a grinding wheel or on some 180 grit will do the trick.

I was indeed the lucky person as this was a project that was discussed between us when I took over production of his parts. They'll be offered like the rest of BKBT's armor once the molds are completed for Hyperfirm production, and I'll try to do a run if time permits. This first set of molds are only for resin copies that will then be modified for the production of of the final molds for Hyperfirm production. They should hold R n' B fairly well seeing how it worked well with the Hyperfirm Westars. Plus, I'll be looking into "dusting" the molds with a silver additive.

This is going to be nice for trooping.

I'm VERY interested in a set done in Hyperfirm rubber. So if you could please let me know once you've got those molds ready to go. If you could also PM me with an approximate ballpark figure of what you think the Hyperfirm variety might run so I can prepare, I'd greatly appreciate it my friend.

Are those hyperfirm Cruzer?

No, these were just a fiberglass backed gelcoat pull of BKBT's knees to test out the fit. There is still a lot of prep work to do before the molds for rubber production can be made. I'm anticipating middle of next month until the molds are ready.

Yeah. i went ahead and had Dark-Side make my knee darts to fix these, so I'm looking forward to these. :-)

Thanks for the continued interest. To let everyone know where we are on this project, I returned the masters and assembled prototype knee to BKBT for critiquing and any adjustments he feels necessary. I'll keep everyone up to date as the project progresses. Thanks again, guys.

Just to chime in for a second. After the initial casting of the prototype, Cruzer & I both agreed there needed to be some tweaking. Also, the knees have been scaled to screen accurate size so we were thinking of offering a larger size for larger Fetts. They would be identical in proportions, only wider across the front shell.

My real world business has picked up again but I will be working on these in the next couple of weeks.

Can't wait for these to be available, excellent job gentlemen.

Me too! BKBT and I are finishing up what is hopefully the last of the final "tweeks". The delay of course being entirely my fault.

However, the very first pulls from the new molds were sent off this past Thursday or Friday to foxbatkllr for a test run this weekend at San Diego Comic Con. Hopefully he'll post some pics when he gets them assembled.

Once they're finalized...the very first project on the list is rubber versions!

Thanks Lorenzo! The new knees should be arriving at my place this morning, although I am at work so I won't get to see them until tonight. But I will be sporting them at Comic-Con and if I have the time to breathe, I'll make sure to take some pics of them assembled for this thread.

Cruzer has been a huge help this past week. He's gone out of his way to save my butt for Comic-Con. These BKBT knees are only part of that...

How are these different from Darkside? I'm in the market for a new set before I make my own.

I got them today. They are extremely nice! I can't wait to finish them up.

Okay, here they are assembled. They are not assembled as perfectly and as accurately as they could be due to the crazy time crunch. I also had to use a dremel metal cutting wheel to make my old style Dark Side knee darts fit them with the flat edge, so I didn't do that great of a job. However, people won't notice unless they are examining my knees up close and the only person who should be that close to me below the waist is my wife, so I'm not too worried about it.

I think I may need a new computer... I just drooled all over this one!

I still have to make the recessed holes for the darts on the side pieces and remold. Also need to make the dart masters. So a little more time.

Those turned out pretty nice. After 6 yrs in the hobby maybe one day I'll finally finish my Jango!

I was tempted to grab them off of FoxbatKiller, when I seen them at Comic Con. They looked FABULOUS!

So how are you attachng your knees? inside the pant? I'm new and a bit ignorant of the best process but am using velcro/exterior with elastic attached and run through holes inside the knee of the pant to capture my leg. looks like you used a strap system?

That's exactly how to do it. A little bit of velcro on the kneecap and elastic that goes through slits in the jumpsuit.

I used velcro on my first set of knees, but the stress would pop them off. I use snaps on my current set, and these new BKBT ones, once I get my hands on a set. *fingers crossed*

Both Foxbatkllr and I felt the knee cap needed to be flared a tad to accomodate the expansions of a knee while trooping. So I've sent a flared pair to BKBT for his approval/disapproval before making the new knee cap molds. I also still haven't been able to get down to the Sci-Fire shop to make the knee dart masters. So progress is slow.

so when you get to doing these in hyperfirm, are they going to be one piece like the s1p rubber boba knees? or will they be a three piece kit that needs to be assembled?

Ok. After cracking my current knees the first time out I needs me some rubber knees. I can't wait to see these done in hyperfirm. I just thought I would bump this since I am sure you guys don't already have your plates full.

Just isn't enough hours in the day, and days in the week. Unfortunately I'm thinking this is going to be a Christmas vacation project because I still haven't been able to get down to the Sci-Fire shop to machine a pair of master knee darts.

What you don't have 26 hours in your day and 8 days in your week. Of course I am just kidding. I just found out the hard way what a great thing these will be. Thanks for taking on this project no matter what the date.
