    Mystery Blasters

I recently purchased these from DarkeSword, but neither one of us know of the origins.

Can anyone shed some light on these?
    (The ones on the bottom)

The handles are resin. The emitter piece is slightly longer than the MR's - also there is no ring for one of the blasters.

I saw on SEEKER's site that he had some: (well his site seems to be down right now...)

And so did TK-1191 (first post): http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f28/my-jango-progress-23586/

Actually, nevermind... Looking closer I don't think they are the same.

The emitter is attached to a very long screw that runs the length of the barrell. And inside the barrel is a brass tube.

Those were from a run done on the board here a few years ago, before the MRs became available. I'm not sure who the maker was but one of our fellow members brokered the deal. I had a set of these myself at one time, in the exact same case.

Yeah, me and Tony spent some time trying to figure out who these were made by...

I totally agree, while I'd love to make molds of my MR jango pistols...it's rather questionable as to the legality of it.

Then there's also the issue that I'd be using polyurethane to make it.....so it wouldn't be a nice metal. Isn't there someone who did a few using a CNC machining method?

If so, I'd love to learn how to get started making a cnc machine and I'd be willing to tackle making these using the CNC method...

I was brought up in another thread that legality isn't an issue with this anymore, since MR no longer holds a license for Star Wars stuff.

GotMaul is who you seek. It was he that brokered these when they were being offered. The maker was a 501st member from the RPF who's name escapes me (he was usually a Bikerscout). But Jose (Gotmaul) should be able to give you any info you need. I had a set of these too, and they were VERY nice. A little on the large side as we later found out, but for a fan attempt with ZERO measurement reference at the time - they were THE BEST.

If he's still making them, or would be willing to do another run, I'd be in for a set.

My current set of blasters are resin copies of them, and I love both the size and shape. I don't think that they are too much bigger than the MRs as they sit only a tad bit higher in Cruzers holsters.

Well, I got 1 resin blaster, and I am waiting for the other one...and let me just clarify something...if on Ebay, you are selling an item and say it is on hand...why is it that I am still waiting since the end of December for it? They told me originally, when I hit the Buy it now, that it had to be made still and would take 4-6 weeks....correct me if I am wrong but, shouldn't they state it needs to be made still?

    Re: Mystery Blasters

That is one of the biggest reasons that I wish that sellers/retailers on E-bay could be held accountable for "false advertising", same as the normal retail stores.

If they have something to sell, then they should have it... period. I strive to be a man of my word, but I do realize that things/issues can pop up unexpectedly. But so long as the lines of comunication remain open, then I can understand reasonable delays.

I'm starting to get the impression that the internet is the new "scam tool" of our century. It's sad when you think of it that way.

The good news was they were keeping communication with me when I sent them a PM...

But, I sent one on Monday, and haven't heard back yet...

I think I know which auction you were talking about - those resin blaster were too expensive. Just hope that you get your other blaster.

I got those blasters (in my first post) from DarkeSword. There were also a pair of MR's that sold for about $375 on ebay around the same time - you just have to keep your eyes peeled, and when you see a good deal -- pounce on it.

Well, the funniest thing, yes they were the ones for $140 free shipping. Right after I bought that one...the guy on ebay I got the first one off of was selling another one, and it went for considerably less. Than I don't remember if it was you or someone else who had that one for $45, that at this point I should of just bought it and sold the other kit, even if I took a loss for the other kit, my concern is getting the blaster in time for this event I plan to have everything on my Jango finished by on March 1st.

Dont ever count on me for much, but a fellow co-worker of mine said that he used to work for a prop building studio for a few years. said he specialized in metal work. Long before this thread, I was asking him about the possibilities of getting a set made, and to see how much they would cost, just as an option for everyone here.

Like I said, dont count on me for it to actually happen, Im still just tryin to work with him on that.

I was thinking that if someone decided to make a new set, make them like how MR did theirs, make the barrel in machined metal and cast the handle in polyurethane resin, was it?

The only reason I say this is because I think that it would be easier to get the barrel machined, because assuming on basic knowledge, places would be more likely to have a milling machine, over say a CNC mill or anything else to precisly cut designes with in metal that thick.

AH yes, I do remember those. I remember stacks and stacks of those boxes being sent out. The original maker obviously no longer produces these but as FP mentioned, for the time, they were absolutely outstanding for fan made. If it makes you guys feel better, I think the price point was $325 at the time. When the MR came out, it was evident that those were shorter and more accurate. Secondly, the MR felt much sturdier which prompted BOTH Seeker and I to sell off our pistols and jump into the MR boat.

    Re: Mystery Blasters

Sorry to necro this thread, but I have a set of these blasters that I've spent the last couple of days trying to identify. I wanted to figure out who made them, then I found this conversation!

For anyone who is interested, I may be putting up a set of these for sale within the next week. They're still in the box from when I first received them, and other than to show off to a few friends for a moment or two, they have literally never seen the light of day.

They really are beautiful, but I bought them back when I had not decided whether to go Jango or Boba for a costume. I decided on an ESB Boba so I won't be needing these, and I'll use the money to help fund that project instead.

Word of caution though - I doubt I'll be willing to part with them for anything less than $350-400. Sorry guys, at the moment I just can't afford to dump more out-of-pocket money into this hobby, so I need to squeeze as many dollars as I can out of the few nice non-Boba pieces I have to sell.

If anyone is interested, I'll be considering offers over the next few days if you want to shoot me a PM. That will probably help me make up my mind.

    Thanks!
