My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Well that paint job didn't last long!
I took what was my EPII Jango BKBT helmet and converted it to an Open Season #3 Jango helmet for San Diego ComicCon. I know there's going to be a few really nice EPII Jango's there (like SEEKER, Zxwing, and probably some others)...so I decided to do something different. Let me know what you think.
I also threw in a pic of my MLC2 I painted up to go with it...my wife said it looked like a "bad azz" and she doesn't even care for my costuming hobby! :? :)
Oh, and the kid bucket was going to be my son's until we discovered it was too small for his big noggin. So it may go up for sale soon to help cover the costs of another bucket for him...hopefully we can get something else in time for ComicCon.
Enjoy,
Cruzer

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Hmmm...that paint job looks familiar.
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Look forward to seeing it at Comic con, I hope you find a replacement for you son before then. Sadly my Jango won't be ready, but it gives me more time to loose weight.
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Thanks guys, I'm glad it meets your approvals.
For my son's dome, mandible, and back area I used Silver Leaf R&B; however, for mine I used Treasure Gold's Pewter. So there's a slight difference in metallized finishes that the pics may not capture as well as in person.
For the jp, well, lets just say I just threw on all kinds of "****" on there...whatever I could get my hands on. :lol
Thanks,
Lorenzo

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
WOW! That looks great, that color scheme really sings to me! Reminds me of the Northrop F-20 paint job.
Wish I still lived in SoCal, lived there 14 years and never went to the SDCC. What was I thinking!?! Hopefully someone will post pics so that the rest of us can live vicariously through you folks.
Enjoy
Alan

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Looking good man, now that gives me something to shoot for when I paint mine.
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Does that mean your done with your Jango suit? I think you sold the stubby, and now repainted the helmet? Now you'll need to but 2 of everything.:lol

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Outstanding! Can't wait to see it bro. :thumbsup

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Hey Cruzer, I Love that paint job, and that weathering.....wow!!:drool
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Thanks again guys. It's funny cuz the painting and weathering process is just like an EP2 Jango just different colors and metal polish:lol ...oh and then there was the border thing with the visor area. I noticed it didn't go all the way around. Plus I painted the rf red when in the comics it's grey...wanted it to stand out a little more.

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
out of curiosity which page did you pull your reference from? cause I went with more of a blue/silver tone :)
of course now I am reconsidering what I've done :(

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Thanks guys.
Kivas, I wanted to go with a metallized polish instead of paint because basically paint looks well...like paint, and I like the finish that R&B gives. So I was limited in what was available, allthough I think there are bluish tints of R&B available. A custom mix of some silver leaf and some blue might work well. But I tried this pewter over silver leaf R&B and was happy with it. There's one pic in the comic where his armor strongly seems to have a brownish silver hint to it and that's the one I was shooting for because I liked that color. But you're are very correct most of the pics show a bluish silver tone to his armor.
Personally I like how the pewter like tone compliments the greys and reds in the costume. So it's kinda like my own "personal" interpretation, but by no means the final say-so. I say do what makes you happy. I do like my choice of red though. It's called Electric Current Red made by Dupli-Color in a spray can found at auto part stores. I searched hi and low for something in a spay can and that's the best I could find.
Hope that helps,
Cruzer

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Ya the metalized look is preferable which is why I added silver and aluminum to the blue..not quite the effect I wanted but hey it's ver 1. I've also interpreted the damage as well.
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Yeah bro, I just do what makes me happy and go from there.
I've seen your helmet and it's sweet!! Plus the weathering/paint you put on your knees rocks! You can't go wrong with what you're doing.
Mine, I think of as more of a custom variation of that OS version.

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Thanks, The Sniffer. It's been a while since I've seen this thread and I finally have the entire suit done
I also made the jp more accurate to the comic by adding the blue-ish Arena style cones and rocket tip. Plus, I installed red L.E.D.s in the thrusters but they aren't hooked up yet to a power source.
Coincidentally, Bountys Hunted has been putting together the same version of suit for some time now, and hopefully was able to debut this jp at an event a couple weeks ago.
Those MLC 2s really kick butt, and I feel fortunate to have one!

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
:lol...nice fix Tambo Fett.
Actually in this pic you can see my BKBT next to a Rubies Jango, next to a JD kid's helmet. The Rubies helmet is what we're using for my 9 yr. old son's custom Mando suit. He sported a JD Jango at ComicCon this year...but it was too big and heavy for his size. The Rubies is still big on him but it works better since it's a little smaller and much lighter.
Bradb55, here's the link to the armor. The only upgrades I've made are a CrazyforBobaFett cape (she's a daisy;) ) and new leather gear that I've posted pics of recently. http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f28/almost-there-14704/
Thanks guys,

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Thats awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, you did a great job. Open season (to me) is a great ref. manual to work from. I've got some big ideas for my custom mando from it. Thanks for the link. The pix were sweet. You've nailed young Jango to the tee. Again, awesome gear.:cheers :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Couldnt the Open Season's Jango be accepted into the 501st? Im just curious, because even though its not obviously screen used, it is a representation of Jango Fett nonetheless.

That's a good pic of OS#3 Jango with cape. What material did you use for the cape? Thanks.

It's was/is (I no longer own it) made from a 100% cotton red duck cloth. If you're looking for some really nice red fabric to use for an OS Jango cape, Target carries some deep red cotton curtains that would make a really nice cape.:thumbsup

The JD kids helmets are hard to come by these days, so I'll be keeping it. If you're looking for a good kid sized helmet, contact T-Bone (sp?).:thumbsup

Hey Cruzer, where did you get the 2 cones on your jet pack? I'm missing mine from MOW's classical jet pack that I bought. Thanks.:skull

Check your local hobby shop that sells radio controlled plane parts. If you bring one of your cones with you, you should be able to match it up with one of the propellar nose cones they'll have in stock.
-
Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
I used Dubro spinners, but I can't recall if they were 3" or 2.75". Any radio control airplane store should carry them, or they're also on ebay.

Re: My OS#3 Jango helmet and jp
Actually, now that I think about it...you should contact Asok and buy a set of his arena cones. It'd be a lot less work and probably be comparible in price.
