My Jango Rig

First I would like to say thank you to all the others that have done this same thing with their Jango rigs. The names that come to mind are Jango5240 and Cruzer, but I am sure there are others. I am not claiming I invented this, and others can add their advice too. I am just starting a dedicated thread because I was asked to show how I put my rig together.

Here is what you will need:

Girthbelt
Ammo belt
Holsters
Cod armor
Thigh armor
7 Chicago screws (length depends on what armor and leather pieces you have)

You can find the Chicago screws at Tandy Leather, but I have seen them at other places like ACE Hardware.

First, I wanted to make sure that the ammo pouches wouldn’t slide out of place and that the ammo belt was connected to the girth belt, so I put one Chicago screw through the two outer pouches and one through the middle pouch. I hid these by putting them directly behind the middle of each pouch, through the strap that holds the pouch on the belt and then through the belt itself.

The Chicago screw in the middle pouch was longer than the outer two since I put it also through the Girth belt and the belt of the Holsters. This made the Ammo belt, Girth belt, and Holsters effectively connected, but I wanted to connect the Cod armor and Thigh armor as well.

This is how I got the Cod armor connected. I used two Chicago screws to do this. The first was all the way through the Girth belt and through the Cod armor just below the screw I installed in the above step. This screw will be hidden since it is directly behind the middle ammo pouch.

The other screw was through the middle D shaped piece of the Holsters. I hid this screw by un-doing the leather piece from the d-ring at one side. I could then slide the leather out the other side. I made a hole from the backside of the D shaped piece and put the long side of the screw in before sliding the leather piece back in and re-attaching the d-ring.

To attach the thigh armor I removed the Chicago screw that was already placed there. I did this so that I could replace it with a longer one that would go through to the Thigh armor.

That is how I did it. There might be easier or better ways to do it, but this has worked for me so far. I hope this helps. If you have any questions I can try to clear up anything that might not have been explained well.

Works like a charm. That's exactly how my assembly is attached. Check the screws before each troop, sometimes the thigh screws work loose. Never had it happen during a troop cause I check before hand.

oOoOo... i may have to try this too!! (been having issues with my thigh pieces).. perhaps attaching them to the holsters would be a good way to keep them in place!

Glad it works for you Solo.

It is pretty easy to get into my case. I wrap it up like it is going around my waist and the thighs will tend to meet together in the middle making the whole assembly smaller. I know that isn't the best explanation, but I hope it helps.

Besides the thigh armor being connected to the holsters, do you tie them up with elastics too (thru your tighs) ?
Let me know please
Thanks, regards

Looking good! Thanks for the tutorial. (y)
An alternative if someone wants the girthbelt/ammo belt to disassemble from the cod/holsters/thighs, is to use one snap right above the d-ring holder to attach the girthbelt to the cod. This helps in allowing the rig to be further broken down for storage purposes.

Good idea Cruzer. I have a huge tote that I carry everything in, so breaking it down wasn't a big deal for me. The snap would definately help get everything in a smaller box. Like Jango 5204 said the holster thigh straps hold everything in place very well.

I've been looking for instructions like these for awhile, thanks. My only question is, what tool(s) do you use to be able to drill thru the ammo/girth belts?

I used a hole punch that I bought at Tandy Leather. It has mulitple punch sizes on it so it is a good versatile tool. The holes I couldn't reach with the punch (like those on the girth belt) I acually just used a drill and drill bit. Be careful if you use that method. It tends to grab and pull the leather bolo. You can tear up the bolo if you don't watch what you are doing, but it worked well for me.
