Merr-Sonn JT-12 jetpack Build - AKA Arena Pack

Hey guys

After being asked by a few people about me offering a stubby pack I decided the time was right. This is due to the inspiration from Jo at GK and her Rex pack build, and the Mandalorian Deathwatch pack seen in clone wars. Until now I did not really like the "stubby" or "Arena" pack, much preferring the "Classic" probably due to the Boba link. Now that we see other characters using packs based on these it seems more established, and after working on one I now appreciate some of the subtle details a little more. So, the idea is to build a pack base for a pack that can be Jango/Rex and Deathwatch depending on what accessories are used. So far I have got the base roughed out and prepared the Jango variant armour plates, these will be cast seperately and not on the main body, but they give you an idea.

Lastly, and I feel I want to mention it, this will be a "real world" pack. We know what the real world objects would look like, and the animated stuff does nothing for me.

Probably the most noticeable difference (after the armour plates) the ribbing, shelf detail and lack of "piano keys".

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. The moulds are being completed as I type this, so here are some new photos of the body prior to mould making.

To fit with the Deathwatch/Clone pack I decided to remove the two details on the central section, and add the "lip" to the base of the central dome section.

Next I moved on to the thruster location, working hard on the angles required and making sure they were both the same. Here we can see a board to check they are level with each other. Below we can see the "shafts" used to create the inner tube they will locate in.

Now, after some more work and a little clean up we can see the thrusters locating. We can also see the side greeblie that will locate in the old thruster socket.

The thruster will attach in the same way as on my classic pack.

I forgot to take photos of the exhaust vent, but the mould is finished for that part, so I will take one of a casting tomorrow.

Should have this wrapped up in a few days.

This is a very nice looking cast. I can't wait to see one painted up.

Not got the cast pulled for the exhaust port cover, but here is the sculpted piece. I decided to go with casting the screws into the part rather than screwing it to the bottom of the pack body, that way it can be glued on, or holes could be made to screw it on if preferred, but I think glue would be a more practical option.

I did not know that. I went of reference photos to get the shape, and scale from the pack body. It is about the size of a computer mouse, but when I noticed that I had sculpted it in clay lol.

Thanks for the comments guys, really enjoying the process. Just want to get the cones in rubber, still playing with the shapes, but so close. Not to worry the moulds will be done before the body, that takes some rubber - and time.

Hey guys, still working on this, but getting so close now. All the moulds are complete and castings have been made, with the exception of the top domes. They will be complete very soon. This is just roughed out, nothing is fastened or glued, the exhaust port has been tacked on for the photos. I am really pleased that I cast the screws into it, works very well.

Hey Guys, OK, long time no update. So I will get you two over the next day or so :) Here is the first.

I got the domes all sorted. I did not like the first set, so I remade them till I was happy. The moulds of all parts are now complete and I have a couple made already.

That is a superb looking cast. You may end up costing me more money. I really like my MOW but the details you are putting into this one are a notch above. If you want to mail me one I will take some comparison pics for you. LOL. I just can't promise the the mail man won't loose it on the way back...That would be a tragedy....

BTW it is amazing how much the look changes with the vertical line detail is missing. I can still see the accuracy even with it not in place though.

Hey guys. OK, so I am all finished and done with the pack sculpt and moulds. Everything is in place to make a few of these if any one is interested. I found Regal Blue at Hobby Lobby. I think the Federal Blue is discontinued, I used Rustoleum 2X Slate Blue which I found at Home Depot. It is a close match.

I thought you already had this jetpack SEEKER?

Rob, I thought you weren't making these jetpacks anymore?

I think he's still doing them as well as the Boba jetpacks.

I messaged him on FB the other day and he is not currently casting these. I think he will do them again in the future though.
