    Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

    Hi all,

With thanks to ThxsDad for encouragement to put my gear on here. Thought I best show my Jango update.

Would like to Thank my girlfreind, RunJedirun, Mojo-Fett,OrtharRrith, Bobby Fett, Bobamaker, Spacescopie, Asok, ThxsDad and my cousin Bobatrooper for your support in making my gear. Helping source parts and putting me in the right direction.

Thanks to others for comments. Thanks to Cruzer and Seeker making my parts and putting up with my PM's. Can't wait to get my leather parts off them.

My gloves, which I got form Amazon.com

    My gauntlets thanks to Spacescopie,

    My flightsuit from Bobamaker,

My leather vest, with front armour plates velcro'd to it. From Bobamaker.

My helmet thanks to my cousin Bobatrooper. For Rub & Buffing. (Don't know if he made the helmet from scratch or bought it built).

My guns thanks to my cousin again Bobatrooper for painting and putting together. Don't know where this was sourced from, was bought a long time ago.

Hope to receive parts form Reinone over boots, Seeker for ammo belt and Cruzer for gun holster. I can't wait.

Need dirtying my Jeptack, more detail adding to my guns, more detail adding to the guants. Need a rangefinder to my helmet. Need to connect my hoses form my gauntlets to my flightsuit.

Rest parts I need are backplate, lower armour pieces. Voice changer.

Thanks again for peoples support. Still alot more to do though.

BM Armor is the same size as BKBT armor. They both have close ties to screen cast armor.

BobaFettSlave_1 - I'm about 5ft 10". I have worn all the BM parts so far, thought it was good. Haven't done a full picture though. (Will do some time). Will wait till when I get parts off Cruzer and Seeker. BM makes the Jango armour from cold cast, which is great. What BTW?

Thanks guys for your thoughts, real confidence boost

"My leather vest, with front armour plates velcro'd to it. From Bobamaker"

If have BM also, need to put it together stuill.
How and where did you put the velcro on the armor and vest? Is the velcro strong and lasting enough after wearing it for several times?

I was planning to go with the snaps attachement, but if velcro works....

Laar0406 - Is your armour BM? I went to my local fabric store and asked for industrial velcro to be fitted to my armour and vest. Sent you a PM.

Katua Fett - I hope to be taking pics this weekend. If not soon. Doing some late nights at work at the moment. My flightsuit, vest dirtied a bit, need to find a way to dirty my Jet Pack a bit. It needs to be altered for trooping.

From left to right, natural and brown bolo at 5mm, then natural and brown bolo at 6mm. Both being 4-ply. Which bolo you think best guys?

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

Got my gun holsters on Friday 19/9/08. Big Thanks to Cruzer for putting up my constant PM's. Love the gun holster and fits perfectly. Here it is with Seekers ammo belt.

Thought I put it on my flightsuit to.

Got some leather scraps over a month ago. I had to get it cut to look tidy. The belt a width of 9" (plenty) and the waist is well plenty to fit around me.

Just need to put my flightsuit, flak vest and gun holster to get the right dimensions on my girth belt. When I know that I can do my calculations and get ordering bolo, leather glue (cement) etc.

The leather will thicken with the bolo being attached anyway, so think should be ok.
    It 2mm thick or 1/20".

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

The leather backing piece is perfect. The thinner the better, because it will make your girthbelt a little more flexible, and therefore more comfortable when wearing. I use 2-3oz (1-2mm thick) tanned hide leather on my girthbelts. Plus, the screen used girthbelt uses a 2-3oz tanned hide leather backing.

Glad the hoslters work for you. Good job bro!

Yea, it looks good to me. When you get that bolo on it, it will stiffen it up a bit. I just use a thicker leather cause its that or paper thin leather. Yours should be good to go. Can't wait to see the final result Phill.

Thanks Cruzer and thxsdad. I put most my gear on before and had 6.5" form bottom armour to top of holster metal-ish piece. Didn't get round to taken a pic though.

Your chart for the girth belt helps out alot Cruzer. Think need to order bolo and parts. Would like to double check though on getting a decent cod piece though.

Slight update. I thought I put my new stuff on with the rest my mando. I ain't connected the pipes to my flightsuit yet.

I not attached the ammo belt since I ain't got the girth belt. I put my existing belt through and tied to my waist. The leather flak vest went up and curled at the back.

I measured from bottom plate to top of plastic holster and it came to 6.5".

Is the gun holster up to high? I know my left gun holster not moved to the side properly.

I calculating bolo amounts at the moment. Think a cod plate would help me out a great lot.

Looking good. You'll probably want to wait until you have your thigh and knee armors to really dial in the positioning of the holsters.

Also, if you wear the webbed belt of the holster assembly over the top of your vest, it will help to keep your vest in place and tucked into your girthbelt (got the idea from Seeker).

    Looking great so far!!

Have you thought of making the leg armor yourself from Sintra? It's not difficult at all to make the thighs and boot armor from WOF templates. To make movie-accurate shins, I'm not so sure -- but the templates are there.

Pretty sure Wickedbeard will make these for you, too:

    http://wickedbeard.webs.com/jangofettarmor.htm

And there are people over on the Mandalorian Mercs who make individual pieces if you can't find anyone here who does.

    Good luck!!

I may be able to hook you up in about three weeks on the leg armor. So, maybe in about 3 weeks, I will be able to offer the various leg armor pieces in fiberglass and knees in Hyperfirm rubber. I've even ordered the supplies to produce them in cold cast if necessary.

Cruzer - My existing armour is cold cast fiberglass from BM. Will see how things go.

Madmartigan - Have thought of doing myself from templates. I'm going to see some Mando costumers in 2 weeks time. So might get some stuff done then.

I passed my JP, helmet, and guns to BM at the moment. Waiting to hear a price.

With my left over leather and sample bolo leather. I managed to get some glue. It says it can glue leather to.

So I had ago last nite, and today.

I bent the leather to see how strong it is.

If the bolo is rolled over, the bolo comes off.

Do you think the bolo sticks well to the leather guys and gals?

Hey Phill, I think it will be good when you let it dry and everything. If you glue it down to the fuzzy side, which it looks like you did, it should stick for a while. I just use some simple leather glue, realy good stuff, and it holds up to a lot of bending and twisting, so, with that said, I think its goin to be good. Keep up the great work man. Lovin the Jango costume. Can't wait to see it completed, and maybe even in person one day!

thksdad - Thanks for your kind words. I don't do much work on my mando much. Haven't got much know how. But am learning alot. Never was into textiles at school, hated it, lol. Years later making a mando, ironic, lol. I put the bolo on the smooth side, not rough side (where frilly leather bits are). I'm desperate to get my Jango complete asap, but want the best. Hope to see yours in person to Mike. Love to go to states.

Cruzer - Tried my Jango Fett before following your advice. It helps keeping my flak vest down. The only problem I have is will it limit the amount of my backplate? I assume not cos it no way near the girth belt. If you get me.

Have been given a suggestion from OrtharRrith on my girth belt. That I could sew some thread over the bolo through the leather. Would thought be best to keep the material, thin and dark so it not seen. Perhaps glue also. Thus keeping it strong and rigid.

If you want the webbed belt to help keep your vest tucked into your girthbelt, you wear it under your girthbelt. That way, you don't have to make your girthbelt so tight fitting and it can be made to fit a little more loose and comfortable. So basically, you put the webbed belt on, and then the girthbelt over it. You can also use a single snap in the front on the leather d-ring holder part to keep your girthbelt in position.

I'm hopefully finishing up a girthbelt and holster assembly this weekend, so I'll take a few pics of what I'm talking about.

thksdad is right, glue the strands down to the fuzzy side. Use plenty of glue and it will stiffen as it dries. Also having longer and multiple strands glued down will be a lot more rigid than just a few short test strands. You don't need to use thread if you are using the right glue. I'd recommend using Leather Weld from Tandy Leather. Also, have you seen my girthbelt tutorial?

i don't know if it was brought up already, but have you considered getting the rest of the armor equally as shiny as the bucket? it looks to be a lot more reflective than the upper body armor.

Cruzer - Thanks for the advice over the girthbelt. Didn't know you making girthbelts again. I placed the glue between the gaps, this strengthened the bolo better together.
I have seen your girth betl tutorial, I printed it at the time. PM sent Cruzer.

RunJEDIrun - Think it the lighting that makes my helmet shinier than the rest the armour. Thanks for putting it out. Didn't notice.

We gonna see the pics of them boots John?

Jo recommended using Rub & Buff. I used silver paint. It still smudges a bit so gonna use some hair spray some time to help lock it all in.

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

Here is a long awaited update. I still got to put my cod piece on. Think I will use snaps for it. I attached my thighs, no problem there.

I done my boot plates, they been attached at the front with heavy duty velcro, make a velcro ripping sound when I bend my legs. Any advice on better fitting?

My shins are secure on my flightsuit, but move about too much when walking round. Any help on how I can keep it secure?

Much appreciated for the input people, please.

Well advise I would say is to put the thigh pieces more spaced out and also check ur boot armor as you have them on the wrong feet or that is how it looks.

Still there can be only one fett and that is boba

    Looking good man.
Use a single snap placed about 3/4" from the tip of your boot armor, and attach the other end to your boot like you did on the sides.

For the shin armor, use elastic straps and snaps, and put the straps through small holes in your flightsuit legs and wrap them around your legs. Make sure the elastic straps are tight enough so your armor doesn't move around too freely. If one strap isn't enough, add a second one at the bottom.

Also, getting rid of that velcro at the top of your boot armor, will allow your pant leg to tuck underneath. If you wanted to keep your pant leg tucked underneath your boot armor, you could sew a strip of velcro on the bottom of your pant leg.

Here's a pic of the shin strap.

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

Thanks Cruzer for your advice. I got round to doing the shins, only problem I have on them is the flightsuit look baggy where the shins are? Any advice to sort the baggy part on the flightsuit where the shins are.

For the boots I used velcro patch (not snaps) to the boots. Seems ok.
My problem is the boot plate dangle too much when walking. I used velcro at the bottom of the boot plates, but becomes loose when walking (even with Heavy duty velcro). Any ideas to sort this out? Any threads or pics would help alot. Thanks

Should be getting my backplate off Cruzer soon. Dark Side knees on order.
    Got some bolo leather too.

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

Use a safety pin to gather up the excess leg material behind your shin armor. And replacing the velcro on your boot armor with snaps would do the trick. You also want to make sure the velcro staps on your boot armor are taunt, but it looks like they are from the pics.

    Nice build by the way!

I put my backplate on my flak vest the other day. Bit concerned the bolo may cause problem with my backplate.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Cruzer - Good to show off your fine work! Was nervouse cutting the slots out on the backplate. I could put up a tutorial on how to do work on a backplate if it helps!

Next to weather it. Then get my jet pack and do work on the harness, flak vest and backplate and jet pack to all fit together.

The backplate was actually made a little longer to fit a wide range of heights. It can be trimmed along the bottom if necessary.

Am sure most of you have seen the progress of my jet pack build by Bobby Fett UK.

Does anybody have high resolution pics on the Jango blasters? After the handles in particular for the colour against the barrels. Any help please! Thanks!

looking good man. What a fantastic looking backplate! Try the bolo belt on with the backplate and post some pics and we can try and figure out the best solution, but if it is a major overlap I would have to agree on the trimming. Nothing to worry about though bro. Great work!

On this site, Kropserkel you'll find some cool pics, and on Rebelscum they have an impressive photo archive of blasters. Between those two sites, you'll find all of the pictures that you'll ever need!

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

The bigger dart was cutted at the side to fit the knees on the real costume, so DS did his knees that way and only the darts from DS would fit perfectly his knee.

If you want to put others darts you would need to sand down with a dremel the sides to fit them.

    Do I explain?

That's possible, BTW if you take your time when doing that, they will be awesome Oh, and for attach the darts you just need to do the hole and glue them at the interior part.

Have your darts the same diameter of the holes in my knee?
if the darts are bigger you could enlarge the holes on the knee...
Could you post some pics with the darts near the holes? It could help to find a solution.

The darts are bigger in dia. to the knee plate holes... the darts were based from Alan's templates. But I have asked Phill if he wants me to correct the issue.
I'd rather Phill modified the darts and not the plates to be honest as those are some awesome knees!

The first picture I have put in a Bobamaker shoulder piece to show off the comparison of CC tone. Also shows some Loctite Super Glue (contains CA glue), padding for the knees, along with Mojo-Fett darts.

    Use this pic for reference.

I would suggest measure the height of your belt, then you'll get your width of the leather piece.

Anybody got any pics on how they did there slots on there vests to allow the harness to go through.

    Thanks

    Re: Maldorian Guards Jango Progress

Phil, as you cant see them due to the back armour you can pretty much cut them out with a knife and fork

All I would recommend is making sure the harness clears the vest completely, you don't want it to snag as the result could alter how the vest sits on your torso. Thats the reason I have what some may describe as "over sided" holes
