    Aug 2, 2012, 9:56 PM - Jet pack stripes #1

    Hey Gang,

Been a while, but I'm back at it with Jango. Just finished up the basic paint job on the Jet pack (pictured here) and I'm at the point my OCD kicks in. So, Here's my question for the group. Does anyone have the measurements for the flat black stripes widths and spacing for the upper and lower nacelles, the area just below the rocket warhead and the large stripe on the top of the yellow main cylinder? This may have been spoken on elsewhere, but my search comes up with nada. I had thought about taking a stab in the dark, but after looking around I noted most of the jet packs out there exhibit uniformity on stripe size. Thanks again.

Well I just finished painting one and I must admit, I just eyeballed it lining things up with known reference points on the pack. If you look in my jetpack wip thread that I recently did I think they ended up ok but not perfect. I also free handed all of the script on the pack. I also have several other threads linked in mine.

and on a side note......your red doesn't go up quite high enough on the rocket, if you are wanting accuracy.

Here is a pic of what I mean.

See the red goes up just a bit above the "collar" piece.

I would take a pic measure the areas you wish to paint on your pack height wise...take said measurements into the pic measure that, figure out the ratio, measure the stripe in the picture take ratio and figure out how tall the stripe is from the seam and how thick it is.

Great advice, thanks. I'll check the threads and make an attempt at the ratio measurements. Luckily the warhead is removable so I can add the red...good catch. That why I like hanging out here. Back at it then. Please chime in if any more ideas hit you.

Nice work Pedro. Yeah, I can kind of judge where your stripes begin from the close up on your progress pictures. This gives me a good place to start taping and comparing. Thanks.

FYI and no offense to Pedro, BUT never use others work as a reference for your work. Unless its for a custom, the re-interpretation is like passing a message down the line

I dont know that you understand what Im saying. I am saying you cant go by others work in pictures. A how to is great...but without measurements its lacking perfection you cant recreate a copy of a copy without losing something

    Yes....no offense intended Pedro.

That is why I posted the promo pic of Jango instead of one of my own pics. I would always recommend LFL pics over fan created, even some one like Seeker who is considered a state of the art standard for quality. Even within the pictures of the actual suit, promo shots and screen caps you can get some variations.

Completely understand. I think we are all in search of the true millimeter distance measured from this point to this point equals the LFL screen used prop. I was asking if there was an unofficial standard...apparently not. Pedro's work is further along than mine and I gave the man a nod for his awesome efforts, but as stated before, gonna have to find my own way on this one. Let's keep it friendly, I admire all the work that has been done on here and will not belittle anyone's efforts or advice if they take the time to give it out. Thanks again to all who posted.
