I weathered my suit but didn't do good job. Now that I have an airbrush I would probably do some brown misting on the contact areas and edges. I should be getting a new suit in the near future.
That is looking great! Those metal ears worked well for that bucket.

I was sitting around with a major lower back issue today from all the shovelling wondering what to do with myself during my normal workout time, as i seriously need to rest and there is not a chance in hell i was getting into yoga today, seeing as i can barely stand up straight!
I decided that seeing as reinone is having trouble getting the boot run situated, I would try and make a pair of temporary boots that would pass for now. I happened to have an old pair of bates enforcers duty boots laying around and thought they kinda had the jango look. so heres what i came up with...
I actually dremelled out the arch in the sole to kind of make it look a bit more like the real boots...it's okay but like i said...temporary...
I also rub and buffed a couple areas of the boot that kinda matched the side details of Jangos boots...I may actually cut out some small fiberglass pieces and glue them to the boot if i have to wear these for a long period of time until the uber accurate boots come around..
I made the strap out of left over zam leather and installed snaps into the boot heel and the strap, velcro on the toe area.
Wow, they actually look pretty good!

as for the weathering of the flight suit, maybe you would want to look into using that fullers earth "dirt" stuff. We use it on our sandtroopers to weather, but i think it would look prettu sweet if it was lightly dusted on the suit and sealed with aqua net hairspray. it will definitely give it that "roughed-up" look. and if you hate it just wash it. it's a lot better of a solution that using permanent paint. Great looking Jango though, can't wait to see it done. What kind of jetback is that JD?

actually its an older MOW jet pack handme down. i think if i do anything with the suit it will be very subtle and only around the armor and seams..probably go with airbrushed fabric paints watered down or something...just black
man..how did i get so far down the list...no update as of yet...still finishing up my armor pieces and thinking of how i want to attach the pieces to my suit

finally finished up my leg armor...all ive got left is my cod, dirtying up my back plate, assembling and finishing my gauntlets(when i get them), making my girth belt(waiting on material) and assembling the pieces (strap systems for the leg armor, back pack harness and a few other minor things)

i used elastic band for my leg armor. and snaps for closing them. i like it very much and they are very close to my legs. all u need is a smal cut on the right place on ur suit. dont forget to fix them ;o)

great looking leg armor JD, how do you weather with the rub and buff? apply and spread and wipe off? or do you "cake" it on in some areas and let it dry then try and wipe it off?
basically i layer it on. i use pewter, black and spanish copper in that order. I use a small brush and go around the edge with the pewter creating a worn dull apparence to the silver leaf. I then randomly brush on the black with the brush and rub it to create a smoky look around the edge. the spanish copper goes on somewhat thick to give it a more 3d texture and i gently rub that to blend it but leave some thick.
I started the technique on my wife's zam and really liked the colors and the way it turned out on her armor so i just stayed with it for this project.
adm...i plan to use the strap method as well...I was thinking of using the button hole attachment to my sewing machine to make the holes to enforce the section so it wouldnt rip on the suit. I was going with 3/4" and 1" stretch elastic. cut the piece long enough so i could fiberglass the piece to the back of the armor. then take the two tails and put them through the suit and sew on some backpack clips on the ends. then the armor would just stay on the suit all the time and you would have to pull the suit up in stages as you clip the armor from shin to knee to thigh...

i finally finished my helmet with the pin stripe detail..this is now complete with the exception of some interior work that i hope to get done soon...
The legs might have been just set out for pics, but the shins are swiched. The cutout edge just off center goes to the outside. Have you heard of using the holsters to hold the thigh armor? I got the idea from Cruzer and it works great. Use that top Chicago screw on the holster where the 2 straps meet. Put a hole in your thigh, and screw them togther. The leather leg strap holds eveything in place.
HAHA...to be sure i really wasnt 100% on the shins and kinda just laid them out..but thanks for that...im sure i wouldve figured it out eventually but its nice to have the sharp eye of the folks here to point out when things are amiss just in case...

so i managed to get something done while waiting for my gauntlets...I washed my flightsuit in a oversized load of hot water and 1/2 cup of bleach...here are the b4 and afters shots and below those is a shot of a small area that just didnt cooperate. good news is it's under the thigh and it also is a good representation of the sucesss of lightening the suit a bit..you can also see the button hole slots i put on the suit for the armor straps. I plan to use the straps to hold the suit and armor tight to my leg. I will use some velcro also to keep the armor from moving around and make it stay in the correct orientation on the suit.
unfortunatley i used a flash with the first pic and not with the second so its hard to see it in the pictures, but if you look at my left tigh in the second pic you can see the change with the little spot.
Im also thinking of doing something about the collar, it's simply way to high.

I may still airbrush the suit with a hint of a light purple just to give it some hilights and i may have to hem the legs a bit. then seemed a bit long. the only thing with that is one piece suits have a tendancy to hang low in the crotch so i think if i hike it hu to my crotch when wearing it and sinch it up with the holster and girth belt it may be okay as is. that what i did to get the placment for the buttonhole.

I used my wonderful singer machine with button hole foot and setting. I used a piece of the elastic to get an idea for the length.
Outstanding progess so far!
The flight suit is 100% cotton so you can change the color in to what ever you want via a regular cotton/textile color.
Many members have their own feeling for the color.
Some want to have it more blue and the others want to have it more purple, that's why I chose the 100% cotton way.
If you want to have it a little more purple, just use a little, and I really mean a little (like 20 mg, of a purple cotton dye color).
You can also use a little bid of red color. To test it, I would start with only 10 mg of that color.
I prefer to do this in a washing machine at 45 c (104 Fahrenheit).
First you have to put inside the washing machine over the flight suit a pakage of cotton/textil fixer (normaly this is includet in the dye color box when you buy it)
You have to let the washing machine start the regular delicate washing process for about 5 min. and than you add the part of your color plus round about 1 Liter of water in to the drawer where you normally put in the washing powder.
Attention do not wash the flight suit to hot (not more than 104 Fahrenheit, otherwise it will shrink.
If you feel your flight suit should hike a little up, you could use some velcro and attache these in the area where your belt normaly hide it (see attached photo).

so i know it's been awhile since i posted any progress shots so here is a teaser on the progress...
all ive got left is the gauntlets, darken the gloves..the dye i grabbed just wasnt dark enough, hook up the jet pack and back plate, and throw some foam in the helmet...
*dont mind the mug rootbeer bottle and all the beer returns..lol

what gloves are you using JD?
actually they are some general gardening gloves i found at the local department store...they were tan...the dye just wasnt dark enough to make them right..ill have to go with a darker blue. they actually are the same gloves i used for my wife's zam wessell and they seem to look okay...probably not even close to SA but they are the least of my worries
so as i sat at home all day hoping for parts delivery...to no avail thus far, i decided i would takle the jet pack to the backplate issue. I decided i didnt want to cut through the vest and deal with the whole difficulty of getting it on with that type of set up, i went with a more movie style set up, hopfully this will hold and will work...
I used CA glue to glue all the straps to the jet pack and armor. I left a long tail for gluing to have added strength over the use of the system.
It simply has two clips on the top to hold the top against the back plate and one that goes around the pvc cross piece inside the jet pack. the corresponding clips are located on the back plate. I also used a wide velcro piece on the back plate that will hold the back plate to the vest, as well as two snaps on the shoulders.
here is crossing my fingers that it works and the whole backplate and jet pack wont fall off my back during a troop! LOL
That's a pretty brave setup. Even though you have a light JP, I'd be worried about the jet pack/backplate combo tugging on the vest over time and choking you.
ya...thats a thought i had too, but wont know the extent of the weight till i wear it once...if i find it's too much ill have to figure out something else i guess..i really dont want to cut holes in my vest though...i had another idea about putting a couple d ring type pieces on the front of the jump suit and then securing a small connector to a shoelace and putting through small holes in the vest that i would use leather eyelets for. securing the shoe lace with the same theory to the inside of the top of the backplate just to take some of the weight. if any of that made any sense...
so....i guess it's just time for me to forget about costuming in general...i just have had about enough....
i tried on the whole backpack thing...and the backplate is rediculously way too small for me...so now im at the point where i have no idea what to do about that. it is noway big enough to fit my back...
im just simply frustrated with all the parts that get made for such small people...i mean really is there anyone over 180 and taller than 5'8"? i mean shoot...im 6' 210 with a 34 inch waist....i guess sparta has been good to me cause the back and shoulders are just too big for this armor!
the only solution i can think of is cutting the backplate in half and adding a 2 inch filler in the middle...then i would have to extend the shoulders about 3 inches to even come close to meeting the front collar armor, that being said...i have no clue how to work in fiberglass to even try and do that so i guess im at a stand still as far as getting jango done ever...
Are you using one of my backplates or a JD?
Never mind, I back read and found out you have a JD plate. Mine might be a little bigger. Shoot me some width/length measurements and I'll see. If it is bigger, I could try to make one last pull from my current mold, but just keep in mind it's probably going to have a few cracks in the gel-coat (not the fiberglass) down below that will either need to be trimmed off or glued shut with some CA glue.

You could try making a backplate out of Sintra, it just won't be sturdy enough to carry the weight of your JP with your harness method. But it'll still look decent and you can make it to fit you. A lot of the Jango parts are made for people in the 5'8 180 range because Temuera Morrison is not a big guy. He is around that size so the parts are made to fit someone accurate sized.
I'm 6' 225 lbs, waist bigger than I like, and the Cruzer backplate fits me well. Some of the JD stuff is undersized for someone our size I've seen first hand. I stuck with primarily BKBT armor where availalble. Look at Jango5204 on here and the fit of his Jango parts to him. They are propotioned great, enough that I have been bugging him since day one on my build trying to get something that looks close to his.
cruzer...id be totally up for that if you could do that for me... my biggest problem is all the working out ive been doing for sparta...the lats just will not allow the sides of the backplate to fit around....let me know what you need...
the jd backplate is 13 1/4" wide at the arm holes and from the shoulder to the bottom on the side is 15 1/2" I had thought about cutting it in half and adding a 2 inch fill to the middle. I was going to use a piece of sintra to hold it from the back then glass over it and fill the front with resin, sand and re r&b...that was my initial solution...ive wanted a cruzer backplate casue its far more accurate, but not sure on size either.
okay...so now that ive had some time to take a deep breath and try and figure out a solution....i began to come up with something...not sure how it will turn out cause ive never done anything like this before...
today i cut my back plate in half...from top to bottom...i then heated up a curve in the armor so they side would come closer to my shoulders and create the actual curve that was missing in the backplate ive got atm....i then used a sintra sign to hold the two pieces together and then fiberglassed in the void with resin and matte...here is the progress thus far....
i will then fiberglass inside to create more strength in the repair and then bondo the outside for a smooth finish. I also have to bondo near the arm pit area cause both sides bent and cracked when reshaping the backplate.
I was able to reshape the backplate by using a lighter to heat up the curve i was looking for. once it was hot enough and was able to bend, i warped it and ran that section under cold water to set the new shape. It's not perfect but it allowed the shoulders of the backplate to curve properly and it works better for my shoulder placement.
this btw does not change my desire to obtain one of your backplates lorenzo...however if this works as a temporary solution i may wait to upgrade to yours until you get a new mold made up;-)

okay...
so i finished up the sanding and the rub and buff on this stupid backplate today...got all the attachments back together and actually added some additional security to the set up...
I losened it for this shot so you could see what i did, but it gets pulled tight so the clip is at the hole in the shoulder. the tail off both shoelaces then goes over my shoulders and around to the front where i will tie it tight to a "d-ring" that will be sewed to the chest of my jumpsuit. this set up makes the whole vest, armor and jet pack one piece. I actually put it all one in the next group of shots without taking anything apart.
here you can see the left side is off a bit at the shoulder because the velcro is not together and closed...the string has not been pulled down tight to the hole in the vest either.
here you can see the pack is a tad off center...i will need Jamie to place it correctly when im wearing the vest so it will be adjusted and correct. I was kinda guessing before i through it all on for the shots...
from the right side it looks okay..still seperates a bit from the vest at the shoulder...more than i would like, but i think with this backplate being so inacurate in shape, it's the best i can do...
the left side again is way off the shoulder due to the string not being taut and the shoulder not being velcroed...at least thats what im hoping..
i also took a couple other shots with me cinching up the system by holding it down taught in the front...they look much better this way so im satisfied...
this side i suppose i couldve heat up and warped a tad more but too late for that now..lol
i also finsihed up my gloves...simple gardening gloves...same as jamie's zam gloves...I used an upholstery spray color that was close to get the color i wanted...it's a flexible paint...it needs touch ups every now and then but it will do seeing as i can't fit my hands into girly gloves..lol

finished my gauntlets so for the most part the costume is finished...got some small things to do like sew in a clip inside the sleeves for the hoses and i wanted to add some fiberglass to the straps on the leg armor as well as sure up the knee armor with some fiberglass too...
i just need to grab a couple 1/4 X 1/8th hose barbs for the right gauntlet.

It's all coming along nicely, JD. You've got good reason to be very proud of your hard work and determination to get this thing done.
finished up the last of the needed work this morning on this project...
i added some fiberglass to the backs of my leg armor to make the straps part of the armor so they wouldn't pop off od tear off during a troop
i also sured up the asok knees i have. because the knees were abs and a bit flimsy on the sides i wanted to make them a bit stronger so i added a bit of fiberglass to the inside connections...
i also sewed a clip on the flightsuit to hold the hoses in place. the wire i have is temporary but i plan to put a screw and bolt through the hoses and then clip this together that way...
just waiting for the blasters to come to reality on TDH..someone is trying to get aluminum machined westars!
here is the finished costume! hooray!!!!
the only thing i wasnt thrilled about was how hard it was to get the pins in the gauntlets...i may file them down a bit...also the way the hoses sit was an issue for me, i think the need to be shorter cause they were poshing on the sleeve...the glove solution will be good for the photo shoot, but not long term. i think ill be trying the nulife spray theory next...everything else was looking and feeling pretty sweet!

Hate to hear the pin is giving you problems. I'd suggesting sanding the stem down with some 120 or so and then giving it a good coat of all purpose oil. I did that with my son's pair and it helped a lot!

thanks alot guys..i gotta tell you this was a long and very tedious project as anyone here knows. to hear from such an elite group of guys and get the props is totally awesome and i so appeciate everything this community has offered in me getting this project completed. without the dented helmet and its group of fantastic and talented folks this never wouldve happened..i owe a ton to cruzer, bkbt and loanstar for all thier materials ans especially to cruzer for his continued help and stepping up to assist me when needed..thanks man
i must also say that the pin issue im sure is operator and construction error and nothing to do with you lorenzo..lol i will try that idea as thats one of the things i was thinking about doing actually...

gauntlets have all aluminum parts, rocket, switches, darts, ect.
not so great stuff...(upgraded sometime)
i own rubies nasty blasters(mirax was kind enough to lend me her MRs for the shoot..thanks hun!)
boots are generic police style close enoughs
gloves are generic with upholstery spray paint
hope to replace my back plate with a cruzer one sometime!
all armor and helmet painted by me with paint, rub and buff and weathering
