Jango Paint Job

OK, I have my helmet, I will be preping it soon for painting. It should be ready in a couple of weeks. What colours and gloss do I use? What colour wtih a flat base?

a couple questions before you get started. first off, what kind of helmet do you have? cold cast or fiberglass resin?

if it's cold cast then you should sand it down real good, to about 800 grit before you tape it all off. then use rustoleum automobile primer (it's the best!), sand that lightly with 800 grit, then get Krylon Ocean Blue (available at ACE hardware in a small can) for the light blue, wait overnight, tape off the mandibles and head strap then rustoleum royal blue for the ears and cheeks.

if it's a resin helmet then you're going to want to sand it down anyway, all the way to 1000 grit. again use the rustoleum automobile primer and then lightly sand that with 800 and 1000. then get yourself some silver leaf rub'n'buff. let it set for a few days after you get it rnb'd real good then go through just like a cold cast with the two blues i mentioned already.

Thanks for the advice. I had Asok make the helmet for me. I am not sure what he used. I think it was a cold cast. I was looking at krylon paint for the metalic look and the blues. I was just not sure on the specific color blues. Again thanks for the input.

You shouldn't need any metallic paint..........the cold cast will look like metal. Like this

both of these are Asok helmets. The only paint is the colors. The "metal" appearance is the cold cast. Look up Saint_nasty's WIP threads and he explains it well.

It will look that way at first. Once you start the sanding you will see the shine come through. I will find you some pics of mine

here are some pics I hope there is some order to them.....edit ok they are out of order but the dull gray is 1st, the shiny scratched up looking one is 2nd and the smooth one is after 800 grit sandpaper.

By the way the dull gray one in the third picture, and all of these for that matter, is the same as the Jango on the stand in post #4.

and just out of curiosity, why is this in the prop building workshop and not in the jango section?
