Jango helmet GASKET interest thread

At last, something to look at!

So these are the first prototypes from Liz, two leather & one vinyl.

Interestingly, she has identified two different Jango Gaskets from the reference pics.
The stitching 'crosses over' in one gasket, near the draw-string.
The stitching in the other gasket does not 'cross'.
Check out the pics & you'll see what I mean.

The first 2 pics are Jango reference pics showing two different stitchings on the Gasket.

The 3 gaskets are (L to R) leather, vinyl & Leather.

Then some close-up shots.

I have a couple thoughts, but I'm waiting to hear feedback from here.
So let me know what needs changing.

Oh, the camera's flash totally changed the leather color, it looks darker to the eye.

Cheers !

Nice ! :) really good job !

But, what do you think about the texture of the leather ?
The original appears to have a smooth surface.

I'm sure it's really difficult to find the same leather.

Thats not bad...very nice. Prices yet? Also, is there going to be enough material to attach this to the inside walls of the bucket?

I agree with Eskilax about the grain of the leather needing to be smoother. Also, the color appears a little too blue to me from the pictures. It may need to be just a bit more gray. Of course a leather like that may be impossible to find, and the color may just need to be darkened with something like a dark paste wax. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the update.

Not sure if you have me down, I see a TK4266 when maybe you meant 4426?

My helmet will be JD.
Yes, still interested, depending on price of course.

I'd recommend going with a thinner leather. Not only would it be more accurate and probably wear more comfortably around an area like the neck, but it would be easier to sew and work with when attaching it to the insides of a bucket.(y)

Regardless, it looks good and is probably the best representation I've ever seen.

OK, thanks for the feedback.

Well I agree with everything you guys said.

1 I think the leather's grain is too pronounced

2 The leather is too thick.

3 Needs a little extra at the outer edges for attachment (to either use Velcro, or permanently glued, your choice).

Other than that, the color is much more accurate than the pics do justice, but it looks like I'll have to source another hide due to points 1 & 2 anyway.

I also think the front of the gasket (the bit that attaches to the bottom of the visor) needs to be a tad thinner & more angled towards the neck. Don't worry, I'll post a pic of what I mean later.

As to price, thats still up in the air as I need to get a new piece of leather.
A guess at this stage is about US$70. How does that sound?

Still no word on the smaller FPCC gasket, but Bobamaker is working on one, and his stuff always rocks!

Cheers!

I know I asked before, but do you plan to offer it in any other colors? Since my Jango version is red/gray the blue would just look funny. By tye way the proto type looks nice, will be a great product when you iron everything out!

Hey guys,
I have been busy of late, but will get back to this project in a few weeks when work slows down.

Sorry for the lack of updates.

Whitearmor, different color gaskets could be done depending on what leather my seamstress has handy.

More soon...
Cheers!

hey man dont sweat it...a little extra time for stuff like this is only breathing room for our wallets...
