Hmmmm, this is something I've been meaning to get too, but keep putting off! I might be interested, will it be made from dark blue leather?

Yep, I got a nice, not too thick dark blue leather.

I'll post a pic when I can, but it is nearly dead-on to the un-weathered Loanstar vest color.

When the quote comes in I'll let you guys know, and if I can say to her I want 10 of them, thats gotta bring the price down!!!

Hey Capt how does it connect to the helmet and would it be very hard to modify for a smaller helmet like a cold cast?

I believe it's glued into the screen used helmet, but I have seen members here also use Velcro.
There will be extra length to the outside of the gasket to attach it to the inside rim of the helmet in your preferred style, glue or velcro.

For the Cold Cast Jangos I would assume a smaller gasket would be needed.
If you want to send me an outline of your bucket I'll see what I can do.
Also, lets all specify BKBT gasket or a FP cold cast gasket and I'll see what I can do.

I need a gasket for a BKBT helmet.

Look at post number 70 in this thread. This is how I was thinking that it is attached.

Either attachment method should work fine.
If you look close at this pic (of the screen used Jango) it appears that there is no 'velcro gap' like there is in the BKBT thread post 70.
This is why I believe it's glued in.

But I'm open to further discussion on this, thoughts?

I like the velcro method personally. That way if you ever have to take it out you can do so, but if the person making them just made the tabs long enough then we could either glue it in or use velcro. That is just my thoughts.

Yep, I sent a request to Asok for the FPCC pattern, so we'll see what happens.

Also, my seamstress has just let me know she's away on holidays till August, but will get onto this as soon as she returns.
She has said yes to doing a small run of about 10 gaskets, but doesn't want to quote till she has had a chance to make a prototype.
I also suspect we can get more than 10 Gaskets made if needed.
I'm going to ask for a rough quote (on 10 gaskets) just to get an idea on the price range, but other than that it looks like a waiting game for the next 40 days.

    Hey guys,

I would suggest having the gasket removable. It looks great as a display piece but it really gets hot in there when actually wearing the helmet. I had two cooling fans in my old helmet that helped, but you regular troopers in hot climates may find it to be too much when it is all sealed up.

I just had a thought on the Gasket attachment issue.
What if the gasket was glued-in (to look good on display) and could be removed when trouping in hot weather.

My idea is to glue the gasket in place, then put a velcro tab on the inside of each Gasket flap, near the draw-string. When too hot for a gasket, remove the string and flip each Gasket flap up inside the helmet and attach them to corresponding velcro tabs inside the helmet.

    Make sense?
    Thoughts.

Definitely makes sense. The only concern I may have is some people may have quite a bit of stuff in their helmets (batteries, fans, wires, etc.) and won't have room in their helmets to put each piece up.

Is there anyway just to velcro the gasket onto the bottom of the bucket?

Sounds like a good plan to me! Like Scott said some may have too much in their helmet already. Lucky for me I won't have that problem.

I still think that if they make the gasket with the attachment points long enough you would have to option of either gluing the gasket in or attaching velcro to it and velcroing the whole thing in.

Yes you can attach it how you want, glue, velcro, whatever you want!

The Gasket will be made so either method can be used.

    OK, news at long last!

I met today with Liz who will be producing these gaskets.
She thinks we could have a prototype (first attempt) to look at in two weeks.

I gave her reference pics, my Gasket template, the Cold Cast outline from ASOK & a BKBT Jango Bucket.
I also emphasized that accuracy is paramount.

First Liz will try her hand at a BKBT size gasket.
After that she will assess the task of the Cold Cast gaskets.

Prices to come in about two weeks.

I'd Be interested in having a set-up like this for my helmet, but it's a custom sculpt from HS, so i'm not sure of measurements, as i believed the interior measurements were changed. Could you please add me to the list and PM me with what measurements these will fit?

Re: Jango helmet GASKET interest thread

At last, something to look at!

So these are the first prototypes from Liz, two leather & one vinyl.

Interestingly, she has identified two different Jango Gaskets from the reference pics.
The stitching 'crosses over' in one gasket, near the draw-string.
The stitching in the other gasket does not 'cross'.
Check out the pics & you'll see what I mean.

The first 2 pics are Jango reference pics showing two different stitchings on the Gasket.

The 3 gaskets are (L to R) leather, vinyl & Leather.

    Then some close-up shots.

I have a couple thoughts, but I'm waiting to hear feedback from here.
So let me know what needs changing.

Oh, the camera's flash totally changed the leather color, it looks darker to the eye.

    Cheers !

Nice ! really good job !

But, what do you think about the texture of the leather ?
The original appears to have a smooth surface.

I'm sure it's really difficult to find the same leather.

I agree with Eskilax about the grain of the leather needing to be smoother. Also, the color appears a little too blue to me from the pictures. It may need to be just a bit more gray. Of course a leather like that may be impossible to find, and the color may just need to be darkened with something like a dark paste wax. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the update.

I'd recommend going with a thinner leather. Not only would it be more accurate and probably wear more comfortably around an area like the neck, but it would be easier to sew and work with when attaching it to the insides of a bucket.

Regardless, it looks good and is probably the best representation I've ever seen.

Re: Jango helmet GASKET interest thread

    OK, thanks for the feedback.

Well I agree with everything you guys said.

1 I think the leather's grain is too pronounced

2 The leather is too thick.

3 Needs a little extra at the outer edges for attachment (to either use Velcro, or permanently glued, your choice).

Other than that, the color is much more accurate than the pics do justice, but it looks like I'll have to source another hide due to points 1 & 2 anyway.

I also think the front of the gasket (the bit that attaches to the bottom of the visor) needs to be a tad thinner & more angled towards the neck. Don't worry, I'll post a pic of what I mean later.

As to price, thats still up in the air as I need to get a new piece of leather.
A guess at this stage is about US$70. How does that sound?

Still no word on the smaller FPCC gasket, but Bobamaker is working on one, and his stuff always rocks!

    Cheers!

Re: Jango helmet GASKET interest thread

Pending price, I would be interested in a BKBT type.

    Thanks

Put me down for one that would fit a FP CC! Pending Price, of course!

I know I asked before, but do you plan to offer it in any other colors? Since my Jango version is red/gray the blue would just look funny. By tye way the proto type looks nice, will be a great product when you iron everything out!

    Hey guys,
I have been busy of late, but will get back to this project in a few weeks when work slows down.

Sorry for the lack of updates.

Whitearmor, different color gaskets could be done depending on what leather my seamstress has handy.

    More soon...
    Cheers!

    CaptJono,

I no longer need a BKBT sized one according to your list, just 2 FP CC. Thank you!

Re: Jango helmet GASKET interest thread

I'm hopeful for V2 of the gasket around February.....
My seamstress is flat out on other projects at the moment.

Maybe I should apply for a job at Master Replicas, they thrive on delays......

Sorry for the wait, but good things take time.......
