    Jango Fett Rangefinder Attachment Method

    Hi guys,

I have been looking at a lot of methods for attaching the rangefinder and it seems that a lot of people put on screw in the front and another in the stub of the rear, but having looked over original ref, it seems that both screws come in through the front; one straight in and one in the corner of the front of the stalk, angled back into the rear of the rangefinder. The photos I have aren't clear enough to tell exactly what kind of screws were used but I am assuming they were brass phillips heads with a slight oval on the top and countersunk on the bottom. All I could find at Home depot were #4 - 3/4" long... I had to sand down most of the screw head to make them fit, but I think it looks ok.. not great but ok. Since I am not a Jango expert, I wanted to check in with those who are to see what you are using and if anyone has found the right screws to use or can recommend a screw size. Thanks!!!

Here is a picture of my RF. I think I have a bunch of these screws left if you need a couple. I had to special order them. They are probably not 100% accurate, but I preferred using hex screws since they look less real world-ish.

Those look great!!! I can't really tell if the originals are phillips or not, but that is what they looked like to me! I would love to buy some of these from you to put in the helmet (and to set a few back if we do a second helmet)!

they really look like small allen socket cap screw's to me

and it would make more sense, imo, since they are much easier to install and remove than a dicey phillips head that small

apologies if its reposted, i cant see what pic is posted above

That would make less sense to me because of the large head, and I don't think it matches the photos.

I think Donny is on the right track, if not already there. They REALLY look like something other than philips. To me, they look like star (torx)

Here's what my eyes are seeing. Not very artistic, but you get the idea. Although the top portion of the head is really unclear - it could be 6 or 8 point. But the typical torx head is 6. But, I've been wrong before

Maybe something like this only with a raised head instead of flat ... (third from right both top row and bottom row)

    Or ...

    Or ...

Maybe or maybe not on the security nipple/hole in the middle.

For me there are 2 different screws, one bigger flat and hex in the corner and one smaller, probably flat and i don't know if hex or torx in the front.

But this is only a MHO!

I have to agree, they do look to be 2 different sizes in that shot, which is weird, but the one in the corner sure looks like hex to me.

Hmm..how many Jango helmets did they use for filming? I'm assuming the most weathered RF is from the kamino helmet, but I'm sure they used the same technique for attaching the RF. Good reference.

They may have even used different screws for different helmets! That's one reason why I'm just sticking with what I've got (plus, there's no way my screws are ever coming out of the RF. They are permanent).

Ha! I didn't even notice the size difference !

    FBK,

I wouldn't consider changing yours at all. They are fantastic and very close. If anything at all (and it is a nitpick at best) I would say yours might not be quite countersunk enough (mine aren't either), but I like the screws you used!

They are actually countersunk by quite a bit, I think its the head of the screw giving that effect. Also, I used a cheap hand drill to do everything. One of the screws is slightly off center actually (its not as bad as it looks in the pic). My offer still stands if you want a couple of those machine screws I've got.

Foxbatklr do you mind posting where you got those screws? I haven't been happy with the ones I found. They are just too big and can be seen to easily. Thanks.

The bag of screws says Micro Fasteners. I don't remember if that's the website or a manufacturer or something. It was a long time ago.

Yeah I'm kind of thinking of grinding the heads down on my screws...maybe that's what they did?
