    Jango balaclava

I've been looking for a better alternative to the standard black. I tried a nomex hood, but it wouldn't dye. I was talking about it to a friend at a local autobody paint shop and he suggested a paint hood. These are worn when painting cars, and they are all cotton. Best part, they are about $2. Nothing to lose, right?

It took dye well , and it got it pretty close to matching my suit color. I cut the face opening bigger for better ventilation, and also cut some from the back. You will need to re-sew the edges so they dont fall apart. It basically covers just up past my jaw in the front, and half way up the back of my head in the back.. The small amount left around the top will keep it up and stop it from slipping. My camera is gone today, I'll post up some pictures tommorrow. I'm pleased with the outcome. Just in time for SDCC/

not anymore than any other balaclava. I cut the majority of the upper portion to allow for cooling. It really only covers my neck, with a strap around the top to keep it up.

    Re: Jango balaclava

I anyone wants the hood, I can get them. You guys will have to dye them to your suit color. Like I said, they only cost $2. I know you can find them at an autobody paint store, it's an equipment standard in the painting industry. But if you want me to get a few, I can do it.

I wont be able to sew the openings bigger. It looks like a regular balaclava out of the bag. I drew on mine with a sharpie to mark the hole, while I was wearing it. You dont need to cut it, but I wanted to. Also, my sewing skill equals that of an 8th grader (When I learned).

I'll get a picture up tonight, bucket off so you can se the cuts.

The only thing I don't like about the mask you used is that seam in the middle of the neck. I found these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=310068097847

It says 95% cotton so I think it could take the dye. What do you think?

    Re: Jango balaclava

Give it a try. I'm going with what I have, the white thread is kinda up under the helmet, so you dont really see it. I have my head tilted back in the picture. Someone with a smaller head and neck probably wouldn't stretch the fabric as far. They actually call me "head" at work. I wear 7 3/4 hat and my neck is 18 1/2".

    Re: Jango balaclava

So I got the ebay white "ninja mask" that I linked to above. It took the dye extremely well. It fits my head and I've got a pretty big head (7 5/8 hat size). I used denim blue and a tiny bit of purple and the color came out great. I'll post some pics as soon as it dries completely.

    Re: Jango balaclava

Okay, so here is the mask after being dyed. It is a little lighter than the fabric I am using which is good because the balaclava and jumpsuit don't match perfectly on the real thing. My wife still needs to add a snap to the top of the shirt collar so the collar stays closed, but for now I wore it to give you an idea.

    Re: Jango balaclava

instead of a snap, have you considered using the hooks found on the back of a bra? It would keep the fabric at a nice butt joint. Bountyone has them on the back of the neck on his Boba vest.

Looks good Donny. I use a hook enclosure on mine. I took it off of my old pair of choker whites.

A hook is what my wife recommended so I guess I'll go with that.
