OOOOHHH MY GODDDDDD I HATE JETPACKS AND HARNESSESS
*%$#^@%$&*@^(*&#*@&#)(@&$)&%*(#^%&^#&*%#
Arrrrgggghhh This thing is killing me. Too high too low, wont hold, sags.

I am going to kill it, or throw it from the roof or something.

OK vent over. I need help. I need to attach my pack to me somehow. I have heavy aluminum chest armor so i have attached the harness to the collar armor which helps to hold up the front armor. Works well actually but i cannot get the JP to be in the right place. My straps are adjustable but they wont go far enough.

How far below the shoulders should the slits in the back plate be for the JP harness to come out

thoughts? anyone please

I am going crazy.......I dont have time for this

I built the harness system much like the original, with the squared rings and bent aluminum flat bar in the shape of a hook, I put it about three quarters of the way up the jet pack so the straps come two inches from the backplate slot. My harness is also a one piece vest though, so it doesnt move I also cant inhale very deeply so that is a downside.

well little explaining is in order with the crued, crued pics... but i just hav a strap going between the 2 openings in the backplate, and 2 plastic clips on each end (can be a pain to get the clips through once youve swen a strap thats teh exact length from opening to opening)

then teh other ends of tehse clips are attached to my jet pack (wich isnt heavy)
and the strap thats attached to the pack goes around my waste and its pretty nicely secured, mind you that if you jump or run, the clips will break...

and my armor back plate looks like hell, but its made of aluminium and was very cheap to make, so i wasnt afraid to put some force on it to get teh strap through.

so my pack basicly hangs on my collar armor and waste.

hope that helps, I was done pretty quick with this...

(edited a pic to show what myn looks liek now.. I was kind of amazed to see that it hang on the precise right hight...since i didnt measure anything when i made the 2 openings, just looked right, cause I was sure it would take a while before I got my jet pack and i'd someday redo/buy my backplate, so when I finally got my jet pack...I was like.... well lets try and use what i have here this...an it worked, just tore 2 clips (that means 4 pieces in total ) of an old school bag, attached the 2 ends 2 my jet pack with iron wiring... and made a short strap for the other 2 on the backplate, this i did measure and wham there it was...lucky shot i gues, but works fine :) )

Nice Boba Fett, too!

I have yet to build my harness system. What I have in mind and I have already bought my strapping at Hancock Fabric is to sew a sort of harness attachment, sort of like what you use for mountain climbing and rappelling. Basically it will go over my jumpsuit and under my vest. Two straps will go up and down my chest attached from a waist belt and a chest belt and two more straps to go over my shoulders and up and down the back side attaching to the waist strap again. This woud kind of resemble what is used for a camelpack used for quenching your thirst on long hikes. As you can tell, I'm an outdoorsman. Anyway, the straps connecting to the chest strap that goes around the back at the shoulder will have short straps that come out of the back vest slots and back plate and barely showing the clips that will attach to the very short clips on the jet pack, much like the illustration above. Kinda hard to explain, but if you are a backpacker, hiker, or climber, you get the gist.

I made a harness like this modifying the belt that came with the Radio Shack voice amp. It's worked great for a long time. (I need to pad the shoulders though). Do a search for "harness" in thread titles and you'll find tons of information:

Thanks all of you. In my cool down yesterday after that post i found that diagram of TK409's harness and now with those pics and yours R_Boba i think i can finish this. New ideas to use now. Just gotta get a few minutes of time now to sew it up

thanks

Chris! That's awesome! Great minds think alike. I see you made it for just the chest. That will save me a step from doing a waist strap as well. Thanks for sharing! Now I'll have mine done in half the time!

BTW, how much does your jet pack weigh? Another question. Is that a small pieces of elastic sewn on the chest strap over the sternum? If so, that's smart. I'd imaging, you need to have some expansion/contraction for moving and breathing.

My jet pack weighs a little too much, but I haven't weighed it. I believe the more accurate way to do it is like the diagram below. However, I had originally done it this way for my stormtrooper, back when I wore the voice amp behind the chest piece - hooked and velcroed to the two velcro pieces on the sternum strap (not elastic, but probably a better idea). I may, one day try to replicate the setup in this diagram. I recently got an old scuba buckle and would like it to all go together correctly - might even be more comfortable. If your jet pack is at all heavier, add some good padding to the shoulder straps on the harness.

Mine looks a lot like Chris', except I have two straps in the front. One high on my chest, and one right at the top of my stomach.

I built this harness from canvas, and had someone sew it up for me. I still need to add the scuba buckle to it though.

My harness is about done! It's a little bit different than Chris'. My jet pack's straps don't have the buckles attached and I can't remove the straps and I can't use the sewing machine because I want the buckles right up against the jet pack and I can't maneuver the jet pack around the sewing machine. What I'll end up doing is feeding the strap through the back plate and vest and over the shoulder and down over my chest to where the buckle will be clipped above the chest strap. It feels weird putting this thing on and off, lol. The other vest harnesses look good too, but if you're trooping in the hot sun, it's just another layer of clothing to make you sweat more.

OK here are 2 shots of my now working JP harness and JP placement. I will have more later tonight or tomorrow. These are on my mannequin for now. LMK if the JP looks like its sitting in the right spot. thanks

Looks a little low to me. The straps should exit the back plate just above your shoulder blades. That should get the JP about 4 to 5 inches higher.

Alan

yeah i thought it might be. I am going to try it all on tonight just to be sure its not the mannequin making it look that way. Then if its still too low i will cut new harness slots and raise it up a few inches

thanks guys and keep the commentary comming. I am finally over the top and on the way down the other side of the mountain on this project. My upgrade is nearly complete
