Good source of braided bolo found

Just wanted to share a good source for the braided bolo material needed for Jango girth belts. Ebay seller "leather-cord" sells a 6mm 4-ply natural braided bolo leather cord that is perfect for making girthbelts. A search of his store should bring up an auction where the bolo material can be purchased in various lengths up to 28 yards. I just received my 28 yards today and I am very happy with the quality. I paid $63 plus shipping and received my order in less than a week. (y)

Take it easy,
Cruzer

good find lorenzo! If that guy keeps a syeady supply that could bring down the price of girth belts a bit.

Well, I like to measure the waist circumference at the navel with a t-shirt on and go with that length. Then, when you go to wrap the finished girthbelt around your flightsuit, vest, and codpiece, it will hopefully give you a couple of inches to cinch everything up nice and tight. So figure 20 rows of that length if you're around 5'5"-5'9". Anything taller and you might want to start adding a row or two for scale. Also, when I'm estimating how much bolo I'll need, I add 2" to my waist circumference solely for that final trimming (1" on each side) when I'm constructing the belt. For example, I've got a 36" waist, so I want enough bolo to give me 20 rows that are 38" long. Hope that helps. (y)

Thanks cruzer... I had a local source, but this actually may be cheaper... well unless shipping is more than it might not be, lol :)

Perfect, nice example because I've got a 36" waist :wacko But I've seen he only sells one pack per auction, you asked him to sell to you more packs of it at time?

Go to his store and do a search of this "BRAIDED BOLO BOLA LEATHER CORD - PICK BY THE YARD"...and see if that works. (y)

I finally got a chance to make a girthbelt for a fellow member here with this bolo material, so I just wanted to share the results this bolo material can produce. I stained the belt after it was constructed, and applied the stains with Preval bottle spayers. I first sprayed on coats from every direction of Eco-Flow Timer Brown, followed by Java Brown, and finished off with Bison Brown. I let each color dry to the touch between coats. After it was completely dry, I brushed on a coat of Leather Balm with atom wax to shine and weather proof it. I made sure I got the Leather Balm in the nooks and crannies and brushed it on in 6"-8" sections, lightly wiping it with a cloth before moving onto the next section. When the Leather Balm was completely dry, I took a nylon bristle brush to the braids to remove the excess wax build up in the crannies of the braid. This gave it a great shine which I think finishes it off nicely and makes it somewhat weather proof.

I used 2/3 oz leather hide for the backing, and still need to punch the holes for the lace and make the back cover piece.

However, it's the SEEKER ammo belt that makes it look good.(y)

Cheers,
Cruzer

Looks very nice Cruzer!

Are you going to be doing a run of these?

Are you putting this up on your sci-fire website?

Thanks bro. I won't be doing any runs because the armor making keeps me busy enough, however, I'd be willing to construct one every once in a while if I have time. (y)

Thanks guys.
Here are a couple of final pics of the various leather goods together before I box this rig up and ship it out to a fellow member...
