Girth belt leather

Looking at Tandy leather for a suitable piece of leather for the backing and rear cover to make a Jango girth belt....is a veg belly enough to do this? Hard to know if it's long enough with the description. 4-5 sq ft....want it thick enough to hold up, but don't want to spend 200 bucks on a super nice piece...

That's definitely the tutorial to use. Hoping someone else that's made one can refer what piece of leather they used, and approximate price....

I use 2-3 oz leather for the backing for girth-belts I make and just happened to finish up two today. The belly pieces are too thick in my opinion.
