Girth Belt
Hello. I'm making a rope girth belt, similar to some of the other members here. I made it out of 1/4" rope, hot glue and a liner. Finished gluing the belt together and it looks good. My main concern is the coloring, I was going to use a wood stain to get a nice brown color, but when i tested it on a section i cut out, the belt ended up falling apart:cry. I'm guessing the stain did it, and now i'm wondering 1. where did i go wrong with the stain? or 2. what could i use instead of the stain? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Re: Girth Belt
Nylon rope is hard to paint... a natural fiber rope will be easier. A real mohair girthbelt is just under $20 delivered to you. You might be lucky like me and even get it in brown. Then just weather it up with some black spray primer.

Re: Girth Belt
Hey man I originally did use stain, but then decided to use a "glossy" spray paint. It doesn't peel off. I used some red and brown. Vaspar gloss. Just mist it on. Don't heavy duty coat it. Check out my thread, there should be a few spots that mention my girth belt.
