Forming Sintra (Gauntlets)

Hi guys! I need a little direction with my gauntlet project. I am currently using 1/8" Sintra and WoF templates to form gauntlets. After three sets of cut outs, I don't have a whole lot of progress to show. The issue I am having is getting the form of the upper sections correct and tight.

I've tried using a heat gun, oven (at temps between 200F-275F, and varying lengths) and simply cutting each edge and and try to use small pieces to "lego" them together versus the heat "forming."

With each method I am either getting terrible warping (with heat) or disproportionate pieces that don't seem to fit together.

Any help with details on how to form this stuff with better results would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried dunking it in a large pot of boiling water until it begins to soften, form it to the desired shape, then carefully hold it in that position as you plunge it into a sink full of cold water? :p

When scratch building my gauntlets, I found that working with flat pieces was easiest, and then when I absolutely had to bend a piece...warming up larger pieces in the oven and bending over an already found object followed by quickly putting it under cold running water when I had the shape I wanted, was the best method for me. I also found that using a heat gun on the low setting was good for small area/incremental work.(y)

I use an aga to warm it through but for gauntlets I would use flat parts and maybe suprglue to hold and hot glue the inside. For the bottoms (and base for uppers I would bend over something for sure.

Thanks for the insight guys!

For the shell pieces, I found baking at 250F for 5 mins, then forming over a Nalgene bottle worked wonders. I was trying to form around my arm as some other threads had suggested, but I didn't get a uniform shape.

For the more detailed pieces, I am going to try working with flat pieces versus bending as you have suggested. Just need some more sintra now...:facepalm
