Helmet Fitting Helmet Skirt?

How are people fitting the helmet skirt to the sides of the helmet?

I have downloaded Rich D.'s template but it doesn't mention how it's fitted to the helmet itself
 
The first skirts I made I would use Velcro to attach it, but it adds some thickness to the gasket. I glued mine in with hot melt the second time around which looks more screen accurate.
