well im sorta new to this board; i just bought my starter helmet (rubies jango 2002) and when i put it together it leave a gap where the two peices connect. what should i use to cover the gap up? bondo?

Bondo might work, though i don't really know. i'm a starter myself, so i don't really know much
yeah i had read somewhere that bondo wasent holding up on a rubies. anyone else know?
I'd scuff it up ggod so it has a good bonding surface. It probably needs to be reinforced so there isn't a lot of flex causing the filler to crack. That's what is probably making the bondo not work.
It's kind of funny,though, because I mentioned that type of helmet a LOOOONG time ago and got a lot of "huh, what're you talking about?"s from some telling me it was the child-sized two-piece. It's about the same size as another "unheard of" oddity of mine, an un-warped textured DP'96.
And thats why I went with fiberglass.....

What about use automotive body filler? Don't know what brand though. I read that on bloodsportstudios.com in their Fett tutorial and helmet section. He used that nasty looking Boba Fett Rubies helmet. At least I think it was rubies. I'm still new to everything so I'm not completely sure.
I was thinking of doing what you are doing as well. I have this helmet and the Rubies Jango helmet which I'm going ot use as my painting practice helmet. But I'm curious to see if I can make it look like a decent bucket.

well since this is the lowgrade paper thin plastic I would not use bondo on it, you would want to use some other type of filler that you can sand down, like liquid foam or back it with duct tape on the inside and fill with epoxy on the outside...

I would save up and get a Fiberglass. Like others have said, bondo probably won't work too well. And like Zeever said, strengthen it on the back. How much did you pay for that thing?
I'd c.a. glue that thing together with the accelerater spray and go the fiberglass route. I've seen a filler similar to the fiberglass "kittyhair" filler that's made of plastic. You mix in a hardener like body filler and use it like filler, but it's suppose to be plastic. I think it comes out of Canada.
Heres the info. It's made by a a stereo shop. It's made to bond to plastic when body filler won't. My brother uses it on his plastic car audio projects. I have the website. Pm me if you want it.

Bondo, will work just fine. I used it and Ran a strip of Hot glue down the center(on the inside) if the split to keep the two halves from splitting. grind out a vally in the split and apply the filler. I then ran a layer of spot putty over it. Lots of sanding and watch for flat spots but it will hold. unless of course you are planning to play football with it I assume your noy going to bang it around. my bigest problem was getting paint to stick to the darn thing. Every time I removed the tape it pulled a 2" strip of the origional paint off. I ended up painting mostly by hand.

What type of paint were you using? Acrylic? For the deluxe version I was told to use Acrylic since it's vinyl. Met a really helpfull guy today at the only hobby shop I know of in my area who gave me tips about how to go about airbrushing and painting my helmet. Although we were talking about the deluxe mask, I'll take a SWAG in assuming acrylic is the best way to go for the two piece mask as well.Quote:
