Cruzer Westar Run (rubber & resin)

Ok guys, let's do a kick-off run of both rubber and resin Westars. This is a run list. Names go on the list and get moved up the list as payment is received. I'm not sure of how much interest there is, but I'll cap the resin list at 10 pairs and the rubber list at 5 to ease into this slowly. If the interest exceeds the alloted number of spots, I'll keep those people on a waiting list and place them on the run list if ever a payment isn't received by the time blasters are ready to ship. I'll start ordering the necessary materials as payments start coming in.

My rubber casts are getting better with each pull, and I'll have a new pic up later today of one I pulled this morning that is beautiful. Please keep in mind that although a rubber blaster will most always have a seam line, it can be made less visible with filling and sanding.

The pics of the resin blaster speak for themselves. More up-close pics of it can be seen on the second page of my Westar mold experiement thread. Yes, they do look that clean right out of the mold. These blasters will be made from some of the hardest casting resin available (shore 85D) and have a good weight to them (1.2 lbs. each). The clean-up on these is next to nothing because it only entails sanding smooth the seam line. These would definitely be my favorite if the rubber blasters didn't exist. I've intentionally kept their price low to help fellow TDHers who are looking for a low cost solution to blasters.

Alright, the prices with shipping in the U.S. are below. You can contact me for an exact international shipping quote, but it usually runs about $10-$15 more. Please PM me when you're ready to confirm an order and acquire my Paypal or shipping info to send payment.

    1. 2 Resin blasters = $120
    2. 2 Rubber blasters (black base coat only) = $280
    3. 2 Rubber blasters, fully painted & weathered = $330
    4. Metal Accents, 4 gold pins & 10 stainless steel allen buttons (installed on rubber blasters only) = $30
I think that's about it. Let me know if there are any questions.
    Thanks,
    Cruzer

Oh, I'd be so in for a set of the rubber blasters!! If only the wife would let me sell off one of the kids.

I'll just have to hope and pray that you do some more runs in the future, when I actually have some money.

So for the record, the interest is there, just not the funds.

Yeah, I have to admit the rubber ones are very cool. I'll definitely make more later, so no worries.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I've changed it to clarify it's two blasters for $120.

Not quickly at all, and actually probably the slower the better. I still have to finish up some gauntlet orders and would like to get started on molding my boot, shin, and thigh armor...so that's all stuff I can do in the meantime. I'll start ordering the resin needed for the run once payments start coming in, and then start filling the orders once the resin arrives. Plus, I'd like to make another barrel and handle mold so I can keep the resin and rubber pulls separate. Oh, and I'd also like to make a mold of my twirling handle.

in that case, if a couple of weeks would be cool with you, i'd love to get in on a resin pair.

i'd send you the money now, but i have an iphone to buy in a week!

That's exactly what I was trying to accomplish with the resin versions, something of high quality that most members could afford.

runjedirun, better pace yourself with all that stuff or you'll be sending me a chunk of your paycheck!

120 USD!? Sweet... If I had the money.
(Accidentally spent the half of everything I've been saving up. Just this morning *facepalm*)

Cruzer, will you be making stuff until December?

PS: Also, how much is the shipping to Philippines?

Ok, I've got everyone on the list who has expressed interest. Looks like there's more interest in the resin sets which are a lot easier to make, so I'm going to go ahead and extend the resin list to 10.

    Thanks for the interest,
    Cruzer

Those look great...both the resin and the rubber blasters. The $120 for the resin blasters is a great price too. I have my MR's but when I get some money I wouldn't mind having a set of stunt blasters! I gotta save my money for the shins and knees though!

Re: Cruzer Westar Run (rubber & resin)

Here are a few pics of how the rubber versions look with "the works". These are the first successful pulls...so my #1s. The #2s are in the garage drying with a base coat of black paint. The handles will get a Medium Titanium final coat later tonight, followed by a coat of Titanium on the triggers and base parts. All of the paint finishes applied are SEMs, so it's made specifically for vinyle/soft surfaces and will withstand the small flexing that occurs in the rubber. Unfortunately, a single can of SEMs costs about $12, so it's quite a bit more expensive than the normal stuff. At the moment they are fun to build...but still a lot of work!

    enjoy!

Re: Cruzer Westar Run (rubber & resin)

They are shinier in person and especially in the sunlight, but I took these pics around 6 p.m. in the evening shade. But they do have the usual Rn'B shine.

I don't have any plans to paint up a resin pair, but I will if I can find some free time. I'm guessing a similar finish scheme would work: base coat of black on everything, rub down with 0000 steel wool, Dupli-Color Gray metallic paint on the handles, Dupli-Color Silver metallic on the triggers and bases, gold metallic on the barrels & tips, Rn'B on the barrels, triggers & bases, charcoal grey flat paint for the weathering. I would use Dupli-Color brand paint on the resin versions because it is a very durable paint made for car/truck applications.

Glad you guys like them! If someone wanted to work hard enough spot filling, sanding, painting, sanding, painting, etc...the seams actually start to disappear.

Yes, as soon as I can mold it (maybe this weekend), it will be available as an alternative to the current handle. It's size and symetry works perfectly for twirling!

I'm in awe. Been away for a while and just now seen these.

    Thats Frackin amazing!!!

Have you put any thought into cold-casting the resin ones with aluminium filler? I'm loving the idea of rubber ones, but I don't think they'd be able to shine as much as metal ones, simply because of their flexibility.

Awesome idea though, if I had the cash I'd fork out for a set

My second pair turned out shinier because I rubbed down the base coat with 0000 steel wool before applying the Rn'B. I might cold cast a barrel just to see if I can do it, but I was planning on staying away from the cold cast because BobaFettSlave_1 had talked about doing them in that medium. I was even reluctant about doing resins version, but I received many requests from people asking for them. So I broke down.

Alright, the hard resin has been ordered and should arrive by Friday. I'll start making the pull this weekend and they should start shipping out soon thereafter.

    Thanks

Just a small update here. I'm running a little late on the blasters, but production will continue next week after some much needed family time this week. Shipping will continue soon thereafter.
    Thanks for any understanding.

I won't have time to mold the twirling trigger until I get all/most of the current blaster orders that have already been paid, out of the way.

Let me know if you'd prefer the twirling trigger and I can note that next to your name.

Thanks. I'd like at least one with the twirling trigger if possible. Will that trigger cost any extra, or should I go ahead and send normal payment for the resin blasters?

The twirling handle should be the same price unless I have to spend more time and materials placing internal armatures in the trigger sections. I'll need to test out a pair to see what kind of strength the resin provides, however, if it's not enough then we may have to go with armatures. If so it would probably only affect the price about $5. But for this initial run, a normal payment will cover either.

Looks like I'm going to finish 4 pairs today, so they'll ship out by mid week.

OK, the run list has been updated with production status. Basically, all of the resin orders with regular handles are completed and will ship Saturday morning. I'll now move on to completing the rubber blaster orders which should be ready to ship the beginning of next week.

There has been no progress on making any new molds due to unexpected occupational obligations a few weeks ago. I'm shooting for middle of this month to have free time to make a few new molds of this, leg armor, and gauntlet parts. If timing is a factor, I'm more than happy to give you regular handles or a refund. Your call.

Alas, I have a con at the end of the month and timing IS a factor. I can receive them as late as the 26th but if that's too early for the twirlers, I'm willing to go for regular trigger. Thanks for being accomodating. Sorry for any hastle!

Re: Cruzer Westar Run (rubber & resin)

It's no hassle at all. If I hadn't been unexpectedly transferred with my employer and hadn't had to work a couple of Saturdays, I'd be closer to my estimated deadlines.

With a 26th deadline and estimating 1-2 weeks for shipping to the U.K., your best bet is probably going with the regular handles. You can always attach them with a single hidden screw through the trigger area, and later swap them out with twirling handles. Your location poses a problem with high shipping costs, but as long as your willing to cover shipping, I'll trade you handle types straight across when the spinning handles are ready. I'll work with you either way.

Hi, as much as I would like to say yes, I'm not. I'm just so far behind on filling current orders, that I've got to buckle down and get them done before accepting any more. Check back with me in about 2 weeks if you're still interested. Thanks.

Re: Cruzer Westar Run (rubber & resin)

From what I've gathered (and slavefive will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong), it's actually a specially formulated resin made for a particular studio/prop company in the movie industry, and is not available to the general public.

The closest thing to it that can be purchased by us, but still very far from it as far as density and shore hardness are concerned, would be FlexFoam-iT 25 from Smooth-On.

Ok, small update time: The first post has been updated with order completion info and will be updated with shipping info over the next few days as orders go out. The completed blasters will begin shipping tomorrow via USPS Priority (2-3 days) & USPS International Priority (6-10 days).

Thank you to everyone for their patience. I really appreciate it as I'm literally a one-man-prop-shop around here that still has to bring home the bacon during the day...and then turns right around and cooks it most nights!!! Ask my sister, littlebekahc, who frequently drops by for free meals!

They'll go out tomorrow. I hope you don't mind, but I took a little extra time to somewhat upgrade your handles. The paint wasn't holding up on the large screws on the sides of the handles. It started cracking with just me handling them and setting them down. So I drilled them out, repainted, and will install stainless steel button screws which should wear better for you.

    Small update:

Thanks guys for the feedback, and glad you're satisfied with them.:thumbup

The last two orders with regular handles shipped this morning and should be arriving by Tuesday.

Tallon_Karrde, I need your shipping info because it wasn't included in your paypal payment.

TB750, thanks for your patience bro and I start the spinning trigger mold next week just for you and Seeker.

Just an f.y.i., I used a coat of aerosol hairspray to seal the Rn'B coat on the last three pairs of my rubber blasters. So if there's anyone who received a pair and the Rn'B still smudges, grab the nearest can of hairspray!

If there's any more interest in blasters, I'll take only one more order of each and then I'm going to put the molds away for a while to make time for some gauntlet and backplate work, followed by starting the molds for my leg armor pieces and runs of those.

Thanks goes out to everyone on this run,
    Cruzer

i just wanted to chime in to say that i've got a set of these in resin, and the casting job is absolutely fantastic. the level of detail captured was very impressive.

if i ever get them finished up, they'll look awesome on display with my jango helmet!

Sorry, no shipping info because I gave your blasters to somebody else! After not hearing from you after a week about your shipping info, I sent your blasters to someone else in order to get them out of my work area. Don't worry, I'll be shipping out your new blasters tomorrow or the next day.

JDFett, the resin can be drilled out. I use my drillpress to drill everything so the holes come out straight. I drilled out everything and included the metal accents for another member. Whenever you're ready for blasters or a backplate, just let me know.

Thanks stormtrooperguy! I'm very satisfied with our trade. The helmet turned out awesome!
