Cruzer Jango gauntlet run!

Ok, guys, I forgot that I need to make special whipcord housing for those using Dark-Sides hose nozzles. I need to figure out who needs the special whipcord housing, and I'll start making a couple tonight. The pic below shows the difference with the bottom one having just the steel armature.

Also, Dark-Side was able to find a higher quality hinge for us to use. He decided to leave the hinge a little long so it could be trimmed to the desired length based on how each person recessed their shells. This new hinge is really nice. The screen-accurate number of links are 8 full links on the left gauntlet, and 1/2 link followed by 10 full links followed by 1/2 link for the right gauntlet.

I need one of the special ones please (cause I'm all special and all).

*Edit* Just a guess, but based on the photo of parts that Dark-Side posted, I would guess that Darth Hobbes, JDFett, TK0363, TK4426, Fangs, nsucolonel, and Steelibtz, would need a special one too (so that's 8 so far, ouch!). Plus who ever else might have picked up a Dark-Side part in a separate run.

worked on my cruzer gauntlets a bit yesterday...got one half of the left one about done...

also had this progress today....

Ive been trying to work on the closure hinge side today on that left gauntlet...besides the amount of ca glue ive got all over my fingers...and the glue i got on the gauntlets that will have to be sanded off and then re rub and buffed...and besides the fact that i had to heat up one side and warp it out so it would line up...and besides the fact that the two haves in the fron dont end up nice and flush...and besides the fact that the pin used to close the hinge is so dang tight i dont see how im ever going to get it together when i put them on...

ya its been a good day of prop work today!

thing that sucks...once you put that ca glue down...youre stuck..hehe

so it wont be moved...the tiny gap will have to stay!

the good thing is i still have the flame thrower front piece and nozels to put on so it may hide the gap or at least obscure it a bit...

here is the insde shot of the closure hinge and pin as well as the right gaunt top shell that i weathered and r&b'd today too..

If you kept the pin in and the top hinge connected to the bottom hinge when you clued the two sides together, then the two hinge sides should be aligned and you should be able to heat up the bottom shell again to get them even more aligned. Make sure you keep them together as the fiberglass cools or run them under cool water to cool them quickly. That's the only reason I can think of making your pin too hard to pull out.

I was thinking about offering to install the hinges for those who didn't want to hassle with them, but decided not to because it'd postpone people getting their kits, and I'd have to ask for a small fee for extra time it'd take.

Now that the small hinge has arrived, I'll continue the tutorial I started above, this weekend.

for some reason on the hinge side i did...the hinge wouldnt sit flush on one half...i had it all glued down nice and straight on one side(the larger half) then when i went to line up the bottom piece the hinge looked almost twisted...i had to dremel a lot of material out of the inside to get it to sit flat enough to get it glued down. after that i did have to heat up one side towards the back part of the gauntlet and warp it out a bit to get the other side as even as you see it in the picture. I'm sure it was all me that messed something up, but its a small issue that im really not to concerned with. over all i think they will look pretty sweet when finished. I would say that if you offered hinge placement...i probably wouldve paid extra for that... thats the hardest part of any gauntlet set up.

I think the tightness is due to them not lining up perfect. but i can get the pin in and im sure once i get the other hinge secured it may be easier to get the pin in...or harder:lol:

Actually, that doesn't look bad at all, and truthfully won't even be noticed because everyone will be looking at all the other great parts of your suit. I think I even had a small gap in the pair I assembled for ItsThatGuy..."gap happens!"

I think part of the dilemma was placing that side of hinge on before the other side. I had forgot that I still had to send you the smaller hinge. I think it's better when the other side is done first, one reason being the sides are somewhat flat. Now that you mentioned it, I think on that particular side(flamethrower side) I remember having to twist the hinge (with the pin in) to replicate the inside curve of the gauntlet. But again, doing the other hinge first would have made that side much easier.

But you did do an outstanding job on the finish and weathering. I'd swear I was looking at cold cast gauntlets in your pics! And that weathering looks dead on...better than I've ever been able to achieve.(y)

The small hinge should reach you in a few days, so I'd hold off on anymore hinge work till you get it, and then do the exposed hinge sides first.

Also, I found it's best to apply the glue to the side of the hinge that will affix to the shell. That way, the glue will stay in the areas it needs to and not other places like fingers. I hope that ripped off skin isn't from the glue...if so...ouch!!! Did you use the orange or green bottle of CA glue. I'd recommend the green bottle because it dries slower and doesn't run when positioning things. Also, I don't use any accelerator when setting hinge because I'm just not that good and usually need some work time in most cases.

If you'd like, I'd be willing to send you another set of left shells if you're absolutely not happy. Just send me yours in return. Your call.(y)

nahhh!...im not that worried about them...they look pretty good..thanks for the props on the weathering...all rub and buff. rub and buff silver for the base on the gauntlets, ive got pretty good at my technique with all the zam parts and now all the jango...after i get the base down and its all nice and shiney, i take three other colors...pewter, ebony and spanish copper...in that order and payer it down in the cracks paying attention to the reference shots. the spanish copper is for the rust...the black for the smokey look and the pewter for the "dull" metal areas...I use a small paint brush to apply the weathering and put it on thick in some spots to mimic actual dirt and grime...a great technique as you can see in the pictures...its the smae method i used for my wifes zam and all my jango armor and helmet

Small update:

Apparently when working with Feather Lite resin, dye shouldn't be added to the part in the yellow canister because it seriously reduces shelf life. When I opened my canisters last week to begin pouring some modified whipcord housings, the part in the yellow bucket was crisped over. So I had to order more Feather Lite resin and it arrived on Thursday. I've started making the modified whipcord housings for those that ordered Dark-Side's hose nozzles and they will be done by today.

For those that did order Dark-Side's hose nozzles and will be receiving the modified whipcords, I'm going to be sending you 2 additional 1/4" hose barbs to use with those nozzles. These will be in place of sending you resin copies and will save you from having to go and buy two hose barbs.

Orders will start shipping first thing tomorrow morning via USPS Priority Mail. Each package will include any Dark-Side parts ordered, and will have delivery confirmation and insurance which will require a signature.

TK4426 & TK0363, your holsters will ship with your gauntlets.

I appreciate everyone's patience.(y)

Update:
Teaser pic for TK-4426 (back) & TK-0363 (front).
I finished making the modified whipcord housings today. They turned out great.
I'll be updating the run list in the first post with shipping status' over the next few days as orders go out.

I was also thinking about starting a new thread with a tutorial on how to assemble the gauntlets from beginning to end. It would be a lot of work photo documenting everything as I go and then creating the thread. So if there's no interest, I won't bother. However, if there is interest, please let me know and I'll do it for those who are interested.

Just wanted to take a moment and say that Lorenzo is the MAN! I received a box of spare parts from him this last week to finish up some converted Ruffkins that I have been working on for a while.

Again thanks buddy for all you have done for me!

A pictorial would be great!
