Cruzer gauntlet hinge tutorial---pic intense!

cruzer hi I have a question when riding his gauntlets , in the passage of the union of the 2 pieces , he says "run under cold water to Maintain shape and aligment " not exactly to do .

I have to sand under water? I do not understand that step. thanks for everything!

if I align this side ,

I do something wrong because I do not understand well that step. thanks!!

The best thing to do from that point is trim out the channel and install the exposed smaller hinge, then gently heat up the bottom shell with a hair dryer or heat gun and realign it on the other side (trimming slightly if necessary), tape the two sides together and let it cool naturally or by placing it in the refrigerator to cool quicker and set in place. You can use cool water but it also makes everything wet until dried. You can also begin installing the hinge on the other side while the bottom shell is warm, but this requires having to work fast.

You guys are intense! I'm just getting started.... I have MR Westar 34 Blasters a Korbanth Jetpack and a helmet but all this info is very helpful definitely bookmarking this thread!

Cruzer, I've used your hinge method but now my pin to slide into the piano hinge is bent. Can you help me find where I can get replacement pins for my gauntlets?

Did you try it on with your flight suit and gloves on? Maybe with them on, the gauntlets will not dance too much? If it is still too big, using foam will help for sure. I had opposite problem. My forearm is like Popeye. I had to create a new bottom shell that is much bigger to fit my arms.

so is the official 501 hinge on the inside "facing the body" or can it be either side?
To me it makes more sense to have the hinges on the outside of the arm "facing away from the body" so you have easy access to the snaps, velcro, claps, etc to open the gauntlets.
Kind of a time sensitive thing here. Im going to a convention tomorow... So far ive yet to get a straight answer from anyone much less anything really :(

I'm not sure what you mean by "facing the body" or "facing away from the body". Each gauntlet has 2 hinges on the inside. 1 hinge is a piano hinge and it is permanently fixed on the inside that allows the gauntlet to open and close. The other hinge comes in 2 pieces and when you close the gauntlet you run a long pin through the hinge (similar to how a door hinge works) that keeps the gauntlet closed.

There are some really good photos on page 1 of this thread that illustrates what I mean.

yes, the hinge goes inside the gauntlet with only the "roll" visible between the halves. hinges (or any closure) on the outside of the gauntlet will be kicked back from 501st acceptance, and I believe the mercs as well. be sure to check out the visual reference material here: Jango Fett Reference | Boba Fett Costume and Prop Maker Community - The Dented Helmet as long as you follow this tutorial, if anything gets your submission kicked back, it won't be your gauntlet hinges.
