Small run is beginning. Each belt is $250 shipped (extra shipping charge for international orders). Pictures below are the first version. New version differs a bit (see photo in other post). More current photos to come.

PM if interested I would like to get started with a few by Friday so if you want one, let me know ASAP.

It's not cardboard that the backing you speak of is made of. It's actually a leather backing, and it helps to keep all of the leather braids together and in place.

Do they hold together well? I'm interested. I hate the lack of flexibility in my current belt. Also, say some of us go through periods of rapid weight loss/gain, how difficult is it to adjust these?

Yes, they hold together well. A LITTLE overlapping of the braids now and then but I think it is worth it for the flexibility. I loved wearing it, I could actually bend over to tie my... boot.

As for sizing it, it is made to fit. I am considering adding some elastic to around the attachment in the back but there is not a lot of room for that sort of thing to make it accurate looking. Still, the braids to stretch a little bit to help you wear it after a particularly big meal or something

    Update and checking in!

Hey all, just wanted to check in. I want you all to know am still making these but I had some setbacks with family visiting and a few other things- ya know. "Real life"!

Also my leather supplier no longer has the exact kind of leather I previously used so I am going to have to go to another supplier.

The tough part is to find that sweet spot between cost and accuracy. I am looking at braids being about 6MM each. This is a bit smaller than the one you see above but they LOOK fantastic. To make sure the belt is wide enough to look good and accommodate a gun belt and pouch belt i would have to go with about 25 rows of braids (instead of the 20 in the original belt I made). Maybe a few more. Here is a picture of the braid I am talking about. I have stacked a few to get an idea of what it would look like. The figure next to it is for scale!

I just wanted to check to make sure there would be interest in a belt made with this.

    More UPDATES!

Hey all! I just wanted show you all some pictures of a new belt I created that was just complete, but already in the works before this thread started.

I have sent PMs to a few of you who are interested. I will be making girth belts for people in the order they answered here. The next two up are:
    TampaFett and C1RCA.

Remember that the new belts I will be making from now on will look a bit different. The braid will be smaller, tighter and slightly darker (can be lighted up with some weathering/sanding if you wish) and will have a few more rows of braids on the belt to accommodate the smaller size: 6MM. Otherwise, the way they are put together will be the same. I just don't want anyone to order one expecting it to look like the ones seen so far. They will look great, just a little different!

Also, I have received a lot of interest in these and want everyone to know that I will be able to make one for everyone who wants one. It just may take a little time is all!

    Have a great weekend!

    Update!

Hey all! I have just about completed two belts. Just some stitching on the connectors and they are all done for Szlemm and TampaFett. I have attached a quick picture of be "wearing" one. It is about 7" wide but for some reason looks much wider in that picture. Odd. This is the new leather type I am using. New braids. Thinner, darking and smoother. They are VERY new looking but weather up VERY nicely. What you see here is an un-weatherd belt. Anyway I will begin contacting some of you who have PM'd me about getting one. These take a bit of time and are costly to make (the leather supplier just raised prices about 25%! Darn them!) so I will be making them only a few at a time. Here is the belt:

How difficult are these to make? I am looking to make one for my son's Jango and I found some leather on M&J that I think would work.

The belt arrived today & it is incredible! I measured wrong though & it won't fit me & that is without any armor on. It is totally my fault Dave. I should have had my wife measure for me. Any way if someone wants it PM me (belt is 37" & I need a 40" with armor). Will post in the cargo hold soon. If you do another run Dave please let me know as I think your work is great.

Are those belts made for really tall people or what? That looks to be way way too wide. The real belt had 19 braids and was approximately 5" wide.

There shouldn´t be a problem in adjusting the design to make them 5" wide insted of 7"..or would it,if that´s the right size i mean?

The photo makes it look much wider than it actually is. It is 7", which, according to many on this board, is the approximate width of the actual belt.

I made it 7 inches to make sure it accommodated the width of the pouch-belt on top of it. If the pouch belt is, say, 3"-4" wide then a 5" girth belt would not allow for much on either side in the way of coverage. It would look way too small, in my opinion. so a 7" belt allows for about 1-2 inches of "peak" above and below the pouch belt.

That said, The belts can be made to whatever width one may want.

I don't know who said it is 7" but they are wrong. If you want to make them accurate they should be about 5" with 19 or 20 braids.

I´m quite short so i guess that a 5" would look more accurate then 7"..on me that is!

Same with you too? Not sure what is going on...Dave usually responds within 24 hours. Hope he is ok. Will keep sending PM's until I get a word. I hope I don't have to involve paypal....

First off I'm not here to bash anyone here. Things happen in life that we can't control. That being said communication is the key when money is exchanged for a service or item. I received my first belt from Dave in the wrong size (my fault 100%). He was kind enough to not only make another one for me, but at a $20 discount. Once i sent my paypal payment, Dave told me I should have it by Thanksgiving. It arrived January 25, 2010. Enough said.
