    Beth's Jango Build

    Hi everyone

It's awesome to finally join TDH! I started out over at the Mandalorian Mercs, but I seem to have caught the costuming bug so I thought I'd say hello here, too.

I'm Beth, and I'm an 18 year old student at Southampton University studying Archaeological Science. I'm gradually working on a Fett build - I'm more or less the same height as Temuera, but of course I have a different body shape. At first I wasn't sure if it would be possible to pull off a Jango kit as a female, but a good friend pointed out that Star Wars Chick had already completed an amazing Jango kit. That gave me a huge amount of inspiration and motivation - so Star Wars Chick, if you're around here, thank you so much!

Most of this will be scratch built, but I ordered a flight suit from Daz a few weeks ago which I'm crazily excited about, and I'm really hoping to get my hands on one of Asok's gorgeous Jango cold cast helmets. Does anyone know the dimensions for those? I'm in the middle of modding a J2P, and that fits perfectly - would an Asok bucket fit alright?

Anyway, here's some progress. There's not much, but I'll update as often as I can!

Here's the parts I've made so far. The chest plates and thigh plates are made from 5mm sintra, and the rest are made from 3mm. I think the curve in that belly plate is a bit too extreme so I'm going to reshape it this weekend:

A better view of the chest plates:

    Priming a few pieces:

Rub 'n' Buff plus some weathering:

I also got some pretty good dark blue leather gloves from fleabay for £2:

That's pretty much it for now! I'll update as often as I can over the next few weeks. I'm part way through ordering some leather bolo to make the girth belt, and I think I'm going to have to mod some Rubies Jango blasters (and maybe take the holsters apart to create a pattern for some scratchbuilt ones).

Anyway, can't wait to meet/chat to you guys!

    Take care,
    Beth

Good luck with your build. You can pull off Jango just fine. I think you will be fine with an Asok Jango bucket. Cruzer makes an excellent bucket as well. If you need more room it is a little bigger than the Asok. If you need any advice let us know.

just a reminder on the thighs.....I know that they are just set out for a picture but the "scoops" go to the outside, not the inside.

You probably already knew this but I try to point things like this out to all the new Jangos.

    Re: Beth's Jango Build

Thanks so much to you all for the warm welcome and the encouragement Glad to be here!

Haha, cheers Mullreel - I hadn't noticed that I'd laid them out like that! I'll make sure they're set out properly next time.

Thanks Snowaure! Nice kit The gloves were just a one-off from eBay; a lady was selling them and they just happened to be my size! However, depending on the size of your hands, I wonder if you might be able to get away with these? :

*NEW* NAVY BLUE SOFT LEATHER LADIES/WOMEN'S WINTER GLOVES - ONE SIZE FITS ALL | eBay

    or maybe these:

NEW Beautiful Ladies Coloured Genuine Leather Gloves | eBay

The curves on the chest plates are just made the standard way, by heating up the the sintra and bending the edges a little I haven't primed any of the chest plates yet, because I think they might need to be reshaped just a tiny bit more - I'm not completely happy with them yet!

Hope that helps a bit anyway!

Here's some rub n buffed chest plates:

The diamond isn't there because I slipped when I was using my dremel to carve out the little square in the middle. Noob failure! I'll make a new one at the weekend

Nice work. Looks like you got a good finish. Keep up the good work. Just as an FYI the chest armor doesn't have complete cut outs on the left plate like Boba armor. Just back that area with a piece of plastic and rub n buff the recess.

    Re: Beth's Jango Build

Cheers FettFanatic Well spotted, haha! I probably should have mentioned that in my post. I cut them out completely just because it was easier with the cutting discs I currently have for my dremel. I'm just waiting to get my hands on some more glue to fix them up, as I ran out a few days ago! I've got some little 3mm sintra pieces all ready and waiting to be slotted in. Thanks though! I'll update again as soon as I can!

    Yay, thanks everyone!

Snowaure, I'll make sure I take some more pics next time I form some chest pieces! But for these ones, I didn't actually use a base. I just heated them up and formed the edges with my hands. It took a few attempts to get them equal but eventually they looked more or less the same!

    Tiny update: booooootieeeees!

    001_zps550c66cf.jpg

    002_zpsf93e7a10.jpg

    003_zps55e7a7a9.jpg

It took forever to get some curvature into these little monsters, lol. I'm not sure if I'm completely happy happy with them, but I think they'll be okay for now at least.

I should have a bigger update next week!

Looks good. It is a hard shape to replicate. There is a convex curve from side to side and a concave curve from front to back. The top maybe could use a little more of a curve to it but that may be hard with a piece of sintra. They look nice though, and once you get them on the boots they will be fine.

Woah, thank you all so much for the kind words - it really does mean a lot coming from you guys!
I'm relieved that the boot armour looks okay, I was a bit worried about them. Thanks for the heads up FettFanatic, I'll see if I can get some shots of them on some boots!

Sorry about the lack of updates recently I seem to have somehow moved to Hoth without realising it..the weather has been useless! I'm sure any UK based Fetts out there will agree...

    On to some progress!

Here are some SPC Boba gauntlets, which I'm in the process of modifying at the moment for Jango. The sizing seems perfect and they are amazing files! Hats off to Skupilkinson, he is a pepakura god!

    2013-03-25171249_zps8af528a9.jpg

Asok does an amazing job with these buckets...I honestly couldn't be happier with this helmet, and I'm super excited about working on it. I buffed it with steel wool a few days ago, but this morning I found some chrome polish and worked on it for a while. I'm quite happy with the result I'm a bit wary of making it too shiny though, as it won't look right with the rest of the armour pieces! I should probably stop buffing it before I get carried away, but it's SO THERAPEUTIC, lol.

I noticed that in these pics, the mandible on the left looks wonky - it's cool, I just haven't filed it down yet. I'm gonna leave that little block at the bottom until I'm ready to paint it, just as a bit of support.

With any luck the paint should be delivered tomorrow, and hopefully the weather will improve so that I can get some colour onto it! Yaaaay!

Good job. The helmet looks great. I like keeping some of the material in the visor area or putting in a temporary visor so that the helmet doesn't warp. Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I wasn't sure whether it was still possible for something so sturdy to warp, so I kept in the bit at the bottom. I'll probably leave it right up until I'm ready to install the visor

    Here are some updates!

The darker blue is RAL 5000 and the lighter blue is RAL 5015. I heard that the RAL 5000 is more accurate when it's mixed 1:1 with RAL 5001, but as this is still my first ever build and first time using spray paint, I don't mind too much if it's a bit off. Sorry that the pictures aren't that great, I'll get my proper camera out to take some when it's all done! The other ear piece is still covered in masking tape, so I'll take upload some of the other side tomorrow when it's properly painted.

The gauntlets are all fibreglassed and ready for some body filler; I just need to pick some up from Halfords. Woop! Should have some more updates for you in the next few days!

It doesn't take too much talent, trust me. Just some templates from WoF and some good tutorials, in the middle of making my ESB Boba.
