attaching your shin armour

how does everyone attach there shin armour to their flight suits?

i'm just trying to get the general concensus before opting for the best option!

Cut a slit on each side of your suit and run an elastic strap through it. Snaps on both sides. Be sure the slits are hidden under the leg armor.

I have some Sintra armor I am currently painting and I was wondering what works with what parts. I've roamed through the boards and I know what I want as far as appearances, though I have a few questions.

1.How well does Velcro work with different parts?
2.Which do you suggest for Velcro and which do you suggest for snaps?
3.How do you attach the straps to the armor plates?
4.Is hot glue a viable option or do you need something stronger?
5.Is an elastic band enough to keep the armor from sliding down your leg or do you need to rig up a harness underneath the flight suit?
6.What do you do if once you make your slit in the armor and it causes a bunch of excess material to bubble outwards at your calf?
7.After making the slit in the flight suit, how do you keep the slit from ripping bigger that you want?
8.How do you keep your gauntlets from rotating around your arm awkwardly?
9.Do you suggest the gauntlets be made whole or would a hinge and a latch work better for getting them on and off?
10.Does the rocket pack attack directly to the back armor?
11.Do you wear the rocket pack like a backpack?
12.Do the straps for the rocket pack go under your armor via slits or over?
13.How do you conceal said slits?
14.How do you compensate for excess material in the arms of the flight suit?I've noticed that often this makes your arms very bubbly in appearance as opposed to muscular.

Sorry if this seems like a lot of questions. This is my first foray into this field and my father taught me to measure twice, cut once.

That's a mouthful....here ya go:

1. Works fine, depending on which part it's holding,
2. I use snaps on all my jango parts. I try to avoid velcro
3. snaps.
4. Hot glue works for SOME things. I use CA glue on everything.
5. The elastic won't slip down any farther than the slit you cut. Elastic works fine, no garters needed.
6. That's why you need to take your time and mock things up before you start cutting into your suit. Measure twice, cut once.
7. Some people sew bitton holes with a machine, I used iron-on patches on the inside of the suit, then cut the slit.
8. My arma are big enough. Add foam padding if you have skinny arms.
9. As far as I know, all the decent gauntlets being produced for Jango are hinged and closed with a pin.
10. no. you wear a harness
11. yes

Feels like a myspace survey

12. pout on your suit, harness, vest, pull the straps throught the vest, put on your backplate, pull straps through backplate, cook for 25 minutes then serve. :confused
13. its under the armor
14. Get the suit fit to your measurements.

I apologize for the Myspace-like appearance. I wrote all the questions out and I realized it was very dense... easy to get lost in. What is the pattern for the flight suit? What materials should I use? Same for the Flak Jacket.

HMM I will have to relook at the movie frame by frame. I could have sworn in the obi wan fight scent they were on the OUTside as seen when he almost fell off the side of kamino.

maybe in the stunt scenes, but if you look at any photo of Jango the only straps visible on the back of the legs are the leather holster straps.

on some of the reference pics iv'e seen it looks like the knee armour is attached with webbing or elastic straps the same colour as the flight suit so as to blend in.

I guess what I am seeing is SCREEN accurate from the movie not still shot accurate or even from an exhibit so my costume will be made from those same screen fight scenes. without the jet pack flames and exhaust of course. So I guess there is some room for variation as to screen accuracy then because I saw straps in the stunt version in the fight scens or falling scenes and they look black to me.
If this is true I totally need to redo my weathered white straps :(

If you want to do it the screen-used way, use 1" black elastic with 1"x2" pieces of black leather and black snaps. Like Jango 5204 already mentioned, the straps are fed through slits in your pant legs that are eventually hidden by the armor.
I'd recommend adding a lower 2nd strap for extra support.(y)

I'm watching the movie in HD frame by frame and I do not see any straps on the outside.

At 102:11 on the upper and lowwer left calf you see 2 indentations. wet fabric will NOT adhere in this much action as consistantly as outside fabric will ( from experience) If you watch the "fluff doesn'r flucutate as offten as if the straps were "underneath fabric". At 102:21 you are seeing the same indention despite the different takes and action movement.at 102:24 I am still thinking I see a strap on the left leg and right leg garnering. At 102:28 I se right leg garnering.
. In 102:32 you see the straps gather the fabric in that would be the right calf.In 101:37 you see it on both calves on the outside ( or there would be no indentions). at101:43 you seefabric garnered way too far above to be kenneth Cole pittt crews. Mine get wet every day ( normal comabts) at wt work and dont do that. At 102:29 I seeee more squared shoulder armor i have not noticed before????. At 102:33 "why would the fabic still be consistanly sticking to the left leg as it is if it's on the inside? If only wet fabric flowed and flung this way from strap from my body armopr. the I would wear it on the inside.
At 101.02 you see the strap indentationa as Jango has just lost his jet pack but since they are black do not see the individual straps. Hate to nit pick but if it will give newbies some leeway I will.
There are 2 sequences where you DO NOT see the leg strap indentations and they are from the exact same angle . the side angle.

I don't see anything conclusive and any indentation in the fabric can be explained by the elastic tugging on the slits or the neoprene backing.

That's the point I don't see anything conclusive EITHER way. And I haveto dis agree as far as tugging on slits. sorry have to do it every day with underarmor on in mostly wet conditions. Wait your saying his jumpsuit is neoprene????

Hundreds of movie stills, publicity pics, fan pics, advertisements, illustrations, toys, etc. showing no visible straps for the shin armor...and it's all trumped by less than one minute of inconclusive movie footage! Makes perfect sense to me.:confused:wacko:lol: It's your suit-wear them any way you want.(y)

What do you do that requires that? And what is this 'wet conditions' you speak of? I do not understand. Perhaps you do a job inside the many pools in the Phoenix area?

(I'm kidding)

PM sent. actually getting bit (about 42 possible times per day from dangerous dogs) demands I wear a little more under and over armor . while using a high pressure hose every day I work. While in 5.11 uniform Please Don't envy my wearing armor every day ..It...Is not comfortable. and I wear mine Under my uniform pants :) and a cup it well recommended!!
