Attaching Shin Armour?

I'm in the process of working out attachments for the leg armour. I recently read that most people cut slits and thread elastic in behind the leg under the jumpsuit to attach the shin armour.

I was trying to think of a method that would eliminate the need to cut slits, and i came up with this. the elastic runs inside the jumpsuit and is permanently attached at each side with snaps/press studs. then you simply snap on the shin on either side. no need to cut slits, but I will have the strapping permanently attached and will need to punch holes for the press studs.

So thoughts please on this idea before i go ahead?

I've wondered about that possibility myself; you'll just have to be very careful putting the jumpsuit on so that you don't rip the elastic right out. Otherwise, I can't really think of a reason why it shouldn't work at the moment.

my concern for slitting the jumpsuit was that it might tear if not reinforced, so for those that have used this method, do you get the slit stitched as a buttonhole?

I havent used press studs on plain material before, so I'm wondering how they would hold up, would it be as prone to tearing as above or would i need to reinforce it with anything?

I used iron on denim patches on the inside and just cut a 1-2" slit. I've washed the heck out of that suit and never had a problem. Interesting idea, make sure the elsatic is tight enough, and the snaps will hold under the pressure. Might want to back the snap a little so the fabric doesn't fatigue and start to tear.

The slits on the real suit are buttonhole stitched. There may be reinforcement too. But if done properly there won't be any tearing on the slits.

I suggest adding the snap on the shin armor closer to the front of your shin.

It shin armor will be a bit tighter around your real shin. Remember to attach everything before adding the slits.
