armour questions

Hey all,I'm in the process of gathering info for a Jango costume so just a couple of questions..

What is the better material for armour fibre-glass or plastic/pvc ?

Rub n buff, is this painted on and then buffed to a shine. And does it dry hard like paint or do you have to seal it ?

I have heaps of questions bit I'll try find answers to some of them in the forums.

Cheers.

I am in the process of learning this trade as well. Rub-n-buff comes in a tube like a cream. You put a dab on your finger and then smear it onto the surface and work it in. Then you go back and you can buff it to a shine.

The question of fiberglass vs plastic (sintra) seems to always come up every now and then... I don't believe there is a "right" or "wrong" way, just personal preference, availability of materials, and cost.

I know alot of people love the gel coated fiberglass stuff from Cruzer, I have all his stuff as well, minus the upper torso chest armor... for that I have sintra as it fits my size better.

As for Rub-n-buff... I puts a few blobs on the surface of what needs "painted" and just smear it all in and keep rubbing and rotating the piece until it is completely covered and shines... do a you tube search for Jango Armor and Seekers tutorial should pop up, this is a great intro into rub-n-buff and sintra shaping.

I hope this helps :)

Agreed, it's about personal choice. Filter in those points that TLobe00 mentioned and then add, accuracy, time, fit, etc. I have all of Cruzer's armor and it fits like it was made for me and the look is awesome and I wouldn't consider anything else, but that's me. Other folks choose other makers/materials and have kits that are just as great if not better. One things for sure though, no matter what you go with it is a labor of love (and quite a bit of $).

I too am a proud owner of Cruzer's armor (y) He makes amazing pieces, but if you dont have the dough right now sintra works just fine with some Rn'B. Good luck with your jango my friend :cheers

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm starting to see how big a project this will be, and I thought making a TK was a big job. lol.

Where do most people start, armour and hard parts or soft parts like jumpsuits and belts?

Cheers.

That depends as well... I started with most of the soft parts first... in fact my first item period was the navy blue gloves, lol.

I got the jetpack last and then upgraded a lot of armor parts as I went along.

I bought armor first, along with a couple of helmets, then I moved to soft parts. I have a girth belt in production right now (isn't that right TLobe00) and ammo belt, holsters and flightsuit coming in the mail.

It appears to me that gauntlets and JP will be towards the end of my list. Then I am sure I will start upgrading some things. I found really quick that I like some of the helmet work and painting. I expect to continue working on those...................maybe start an Open Seasons as soon as I finish my first ATOC Jango.

Hey Mullreel sounds exactly like me :), working on the OS Jango now too... well it is sidelined until I get these girth belts done, speaking of, Mullreel, yours will be shipping this afternoon and you should get it before weeks end I would assume :)

Thanks fellas, I think I shall start at the top so to speak and start with getting the helmet.

I have found out reading the various threads in the "Jango" section suppliers who do helmets ie. Asok, Cruzer and Fettpride.

My question is, can you use the helmets FP has for sale in the cargo hold, for a Jango? I know these are Boba helmets because of the "beauty spot" but can

that be sand/ trimmed away to have a Jango bucket?

They are Boba and have "differences" so I'd say you're better off getting a Cruzer or Asok from one of them... Check the cargo hold a little farther back and I think Cruzer had a few for sale if he still has them :)

or I think slavefire had some for sale as well.

Hey guys,
I've read all oh this thread and there's some great advice but i just had one quick question... you guys mention buying armor from different people in the cargo hold... but is that because it's too much work or is it just such good quality that it makes sense to buy if from them?

Good quality and it makes sense........................unless you want the satisfaction of making it yourself. Me personally I like putting things together but I am not as good at the fabrication process. I like the painting and such, much like putting together a model. But I am also short on time as I work a lot and have three small kids so I don't mind throwing some cash at someone to get a good quality product that I just need to put the finishing touches on.

my 2 cents

Hey everyone I guess Im the new guy. Ive downloaded the Boba and Jango Fett template sets ( they look great ). But im just curious the only differences I see in the armor plates are all from the waist down. Am I right or are my eyes deceiving me? Also I am planning on making them out of ABS so Im kinda curious if anyone has any tips or tricks they would like to share? And I do apologize if any of these questions have been asked before.

boba chest plates are a good deal larger than jango, and the shape is different as well. boba's are like squares with tails, jango armor is more like a diamond shape if you were to continue the lines.
