the armor

You can velcro. I use snaps. I think snaps is a preferred method by many.

Look up Cruzer's thread titled "Don't call it a comeback" scroll down and you will see an excellent picture display of how snaps look.

I'll have to do that. Alright, another question. My jumpsuit came with this weird elastic in the back. If I take it out, can I still be approved? I feel like it would fit better if it weren't there. I don't want to have to go through the trouble and hassle of ordering another one and waiting another year to get it.

The back of your flightsuit isn't visible anyways so I would think it would be ok. The only thing visible of the flightsuit in the back is the butt area and the legs.

pay no attention to my ugly mug. in the last picture, you can see where the elastic band is "pinched." should i let it out a little?

these pictures are to show the length and size of the flak vest. should i bring it up a little? if so, how? or should i leave it alone? it is about an inch to an inch and a quarter below my waist.

That pic is the 501st requirements pic so follow those standards
mine has no elastic, that's the way I received it , I would say let it out , you won't need it

Agreed, as long as the stitching from the elastic doesn't drop down and show below your girth belt you should be fine. As for your vest it does look a little long however I would wait until after you have everything assembled before altering the length. If the vest shows below the girth belt when everything is worn then adjust the length. If it doesn't no adjustment is necessary. You may also want to check out Seeker's Flicker page it has some great ideas (pictures) for setting up your mid section and attaching your leather parts to your vest which will prevent it from riding up while your moving around. https://www.flickr.com/photos/arturoseeker/sets/72157628954377747/

It's hard to tell with out it being on you, especially since you have a much longer Flack vest than the ones I have seen before. I would use some Velcro or thick double sided tape to temp install the plates and make adjustments with it on you.

That's what I was planning to do today. I was going to tape it like it is and gauge from there. I was just trying to get a general idea as well as seeing what the consensus was. Thank you, kindly.

You could also put on your jumpsuit, vest, and girth belt. Make sure everything is where it will be when the complete costume is worn. Then draw a line on your vest with chalk or something easily removable along the top of your girth belt. Then remove everything and lay out the vest flat and find the center (2 marks one high and one low to keep the line from going off center) then draw your center line (with chalk) from the neck to the girth belt line. Use the center line to center your collar, diamond, and abe armor. Then it's just a matter of evenly spacing out your armor in the space allowed between the colar armor and the line you drew where the girth belt will sit.
Then as you stated I would still recommend temp installing it to see how it looks when worn before installing the snaps (just to make sure).
