Another Arena Jetpack

Hey Guys,

You've inspired me to work on my Arena Pack. Todays weather was nice enough for me to paint my pack. Not sure how to go about weathering it. I have some acrylic paints (burnt Umber and black) Do you mix the paint with water to thin it out or should you blot and wipe it off?

what I did with eagc's jetpack was I took the black paint and applied it with my fingers. Put a little on your thumb, rub your thumb and forefinger together and smear it on in a close approximation to the weathering seen in reference pictures. Then I mixed the umber with rubbing alcohol about 4 to 1 alcohol to paint mix. Then using a small paint brush I ran that into the nooks and crannies. I gave that a few moments to dry a bit then wiped off the excess with a damp microfiber cloth, making sure not to get into the deepest of the recesses.

You are going to go back and add the dark blue between the fuel cells and the center piece, right? You may have planned this but since you asked about weathering I didn't want to assume.

The paint job looks nice. What colors did you use?

And BTW I like the pic you have of the JP with the Helmet beside it, you could display it like that.

I used Krylon Regal blue and Dupli color Light blue metal. That was the best colors that I could find in my area to match the JP. I p[lan on going back to fill in the blue. It was an oversight on my part.

oh snap! i originally looked at this thread on my phone so i missed that.

well I am glad I mentioned it then.......like I said I hated to assume and you end up with more work than you should.

The colors look good. I thought you had told me you were using the Regal Blue, but it looks darker on than it does on the bottle.

The paints looking good......keep up the good work, and the progress pics.

looking much better with the blue in there. one last thing i forgot to mention about weathering. i misted the entire pack with low gloss black spray paint. it'll bring down the shine of your dark blue and give it that look you're going after.

That pack looks sharp man. You should be proud of that paint job and the weathering.

Can't wait to see you suited up.
