    Accurate Jango Girth Belt?

Hey guys...I was just wondering what most of you are doing for girth belts these days? I know there was one guy making them a few months back, but then his account got suspended for re-casting or something?

Girth is one of the last pieces I need to finish off my suit. I've currently got orders in with the masters...Bobamaker, Cruzer, Reinone, and Dark-Side. I'm really looking for a high quality belt...up to the standards of these gentlemen.

    Any tips?

Good luck. Cruzer and I have exchanged PMs on this off and on. The real problem is that there just doesn't seem to be a good supplier of accurate bolo lately.

Cruzer was talking about maybe making some himself, but so far that's the latest I've heard.

If anyone's got any bright ideas on where we can find the right bolo, we might be able to get these going again.

I plan to make mine myself, but as of yet have not found a supplier.

JDFett has made a good girth belt. I haven't made mine yet. But have a source which I think is ok. www.bfnt.co.uk

    Re: Accurate Jango Girth Belt?

Hey guys, just a heads up but the bfnt cord is a lower quality because the central cord can be seen throught the braid. It's good as an economical alternative or as a last resort.

The cord JDFett was able to obtain makes a nice belt, however the dimensions of the lacing were different from the screen used belt. If another source cannot be found, then I'd say this would be our best option.

In the near future I'm also going to need to make a few belts for friends. If you'd like I can check with my India supplier that we have placed two mass orders with in the past. But keep in mind part of me hates dealing with them because it's always a shot in the dark when it comes to the final product we receive. But we did get acceptible material both times. They do have a minimum order of 300 yards, so we'd need enough interest for 25 yard rolls each. I can use 5 rolls and can probably purchase more to tuck away.

Let me know what you think.

I can always use a new girthbelt, if you decide to do that put me down for one!

I'm interested in a girth belt as well. If anyone finds the proper braid/ply count me in too.

Sorry if this is a newbiequestion that has already be answered, but what was the original belt? It looks a bit like a belt that keeps the saddle on a horse

Jango's girth belt is similar, but instead is made of strands of round braided leather glued down to a leather backing. Here's an up-close pic of the original belt.

A few days ago I emailed my previous contact from KS Exports (http://www.buttonsfromindia.com/) and she is willing to work with us once more. I've requested samples and prices, so I'll keep everyone up to date as information comes in. At some point I'll start an interest thread with an order list if this looks like it's going to move forward.

    Cheers,
    Cruzer

Cool, thanks Cruz! I really didn't mean for this to become work for you! It wasn't part of a diabolical plan after sending you that PM asking about a girth belt....I swear! O=)

Nah, it's fine. We all need girthbelt material so it's a win/win situation for everyone...as long as the supplier comes through. I would just prefer not dealing with an overseas business because there's less control over the situation if things go wrong.

I've sent the sales rep a high res. pic of the original girthbelt, given her my dimensions again (4 ply, .25" diameter, 25 yd. individual rolls), and quality standards (stained reddish brown, not painted, staggered splices). She said she'd send out the samples to choose from as soon as possible, and I asked her for three prices quotes for a 300, 400, and 500 yard order.

    Here's hoping for the best!

The samples came in, however, unfortunately they were too small in diameter. I've emailed her concerning the problem and I'll let you know what she says.

    Re: Accurate Jango Girth Belt?

She's sending out new samples that will be natural in color and will hopefully be the right diameter. I asked her to make them natural in color because the last ones she sent were painted brown. So I figured we would be better off staining natural colored leather braid.

I found some that's close, it's here in the US, it's 6mm (1/4"), antique brown (reddish brown) and in stock but, it's 6 ply vs. 4. I ordered 2 spools, it looks just about right.

Here is mine I made. I found that not using a backing made it much easier for me to move around/bend/twist while wearing it.

I completely agree with that. I can understand canon and putting the leather backing on it but sometimes (especially if your gonna be in it for hours at a time ie: Con) its so much more practical to leave the backing off and tie the cords together. After all, I'm sure Temuera Morrison didnt have to stay in his costume THAT long!
