About your Rub n Buffed Armor

well I'm startin to feel retarded. I've tried like 5 or 6 different techniques, and I can't get it to shine up or look good. when it heats up with my finger or side of my hand, it gums up and leaves these thicker little rings and chunks. I've tried to use less and less to no avail.. obviously I must be missing something.

Are you putting it on fiberglass or some other material? All my armor was fiberglass, and I do remember the R&B balling up a little. I just flicked it off and kept going. I would dab a little with my finger and rub it in with my fingers, spreading it out thin and then buffing with the palm. You might be dabbing it on a little thick. That's my only explanation.

I have to wonder now about the amount of natural oils each individual person exudes. We all exude a tiny amount of natural oils and I wonder if that has any bearing on why some people have more difficulty. This is a long shot but try washing your hands and drying them completely so they are clean and have no oils in them and don't rub your forehead. Like I said...it's a long shot.

well for now, I'm trying to clean up a set of aluminum armor I've got. it's been primed, painted, and re-primed and sanded in between (wasnt happy with chrome paint), yeah I thought of that. I noticed the more rub n buff got on my hand, the more it balled up, so I took to washing my hands after every 2nd/ 3rd attempt. the whole thing is just bizarre. either way, this sets gonna get sold, just wanted to practice and figure it out before trying on the fiberglass. for those of you with fiberglass, did you apply straight since the existing finish is pretty smooth (I know it is in JD's armor's case), or do you prime and wetsand 1st?

mine was JD fiberglass and I primed and wet sanded it before R&B. It also might ball up on you because you might not be transfering the entire dab from your finger to the material before buffing, creating a buildup on your fingers. That happened to me too so I used up what was left on my fingers to continue the next portiion of primered armor. Get it all off your fingers then buff with your palm. This should pretty much do the trick.

this stuff works best on a smooth surface, the smoother the better right? well the JD fiberglass armor is smooth as hell, why not just apply straight? once it dries, it's gonna dry the same to that versus primer.. just a thought.. anyone else got their .02 to add to this?

Primimg is always a good idea. I have not recieved my armor from the mighty JD yet. (maybe becuase I just ordered it last week. ;) ) Even the best fiber glass jobs will have a few pin size holes from time to time. These small hole will show up when finishing the item. If you prime it and wetsand it, the finish will look much better.

I always prefer to prime first. I prime and wet sand at least 2 to 3 times before applying rub n buff. The smoother the better. Even if you think its smooth enough you should probably smooth it even more.

I agree JD armor is very smooth and requires little prep. However, if you do not wet sand it first with at least 600 grit, you will not get a shine.

I did not primer my JD pieces before sanding them. I sanded lightly with 600 grit. I then applied the rub n buff directly with a tiny dab on my finger and rubbed it in with my palm on to an area no greater than 4" square. I rubbed until it stopped coming off on my fingers with regular handling.

It will help if you do one coat and just put the piece aside for a while. Come back and look at it under incandescent light later and if it does not shine, do a second very light coat.

Below is my suit.

OMG!!! O_O is the shinnest armor I´ve ever seen. Dont you think this is too much shinny?

By the way, you said this is a JD armor. Is also the bottom chest piece from the JD armor, or did you change it? because it´s different of any bottom JD´s chest piece i´ve ever seen.

Thx,

That was a shot in direct sunlight; it looks much ore weathered than that in person. I modified all of my JD armor, except the thighs, quite a bit.

I see. Can I ask how? Specially the bottom Chest armor. Is the only part Of JD armor I dont like...

People still rant and rave about The "Seekers" instructional on applying Rub-n-Buff. His wisdom has wowed the "Sniffer" himself!

Well, I have to say I applied R&B directly over my JD Codpiece witout priming and without sanding, and i think it became very shinny

I think the big secret is once Rubbed, Buf it hardly

That looks nice. the reason it looks good with JD codpiece is beacause it arleady has a smooth gelcoat on it. Since sintra is very porous, it needs something to flatten out the holes.

But anything fiberglass looks awesome with R&B
