What armor parts are folks looking for the most?

I'd like to do a few 'runs' of vacuformed parts like the knees I just did (those are shipping out this weekend).

    What do people need?

    Chest $20
collar $10 (or 5 if ordered with the chest)
    back $25
    knees $25
    shoulders $15
    codpiece $20
    gauntlets $25 each L or R

You can see pics of my stuff here:

    OK, now I feel dumb...

I went back and added prices to each- remember these will be just the vacuformed pieces; no resin details like the arm rocket, knee darts, etc.

I'd be interested in some gauntlets as well. What would the total price be for a pair with the resin parts included?

What material and what thickness is the material your working with to make your armor? Is it styrene? I actually may be interested in a right gauntlet if I can't get the one I'm working on to work with me...It keeps getting kinked up in one place as I think I should have made the hinge longer...

I wanted to ask if you have ever thought about creating a set of Republic Commando armor out of a heavier material like ABS or even fiberglass? That's going to be my next project I think unless i go for the standard Stormtrooper attire if I can't find decent RC armor...Thoughts?

The material is .080" styrene. The parts will come untrimmed, but the plastic is easy to work with using a exacto and/or dremel.

ABS is a big pain to use, especially here in Florida where humidity can affect the plastic. There is a similar plastic that is more reliable called Kydex. Both ABS and Kydex are a bit more expensive though and I've found most people just don't want to spend the money.

Fiberglass is a whole other thing- I usually sub-out the work when I have to do fiberglass.

Is the Rebublic Commando armor similar to the regular Clone armor? I did Clonetroopers for Disney a few years ago, so I have vacform molds for all that.

There is only a price break if its with the collar because I can fit both molds on one sheet of plastic.

Have you tried pre-drying it in a hot box for a day? You can make a hot box out of plywood, with a plain light bulb in the bottom as a heater.

I've tried several things, including something like you mentioned, but I still end up with a batch of plastic that works maybe 1 out of every 4 sheets. I just decided to stick with Kydex when I need something like ABS- its more expensive, but much more reliable.

OK, I've has several people ask about clone armor- I have to take a look at all the factors (spare time being the most important) to see if I can take on accepting orders for this. I'll post something here and/or in the cargo hold when I decide.

If I were to make the clone armor, the material would still be styrene, and the parts would still need to be trimmed, etc. The cost would probably be somewhere between $500-$700 for a set that doesn't include the helmet or boots.

I could also of course do individual parts in needed.

I'm wondering how many folks would be interested?

If anyone wants anything on the list, please let me know now.

I just took on a job for some movie props- shooting begins in mid-February, so I'll likely have little free time very soon. I may have to put the offer on hold for a little while if it gets too crazy.

    Thanks!

    Mark,
Just to check this, you quoted $70 to ship to the UK, plus $50 for a pair of gauntlets = $120 right?

Hi, Its almost been a month now since i last heard from you (even though i have pm'ed you since). The armour i ordered still hasn't arrived, and i was wondering when it would.

    I ordered and paid for:

    2 gauntlets (right and left)
    1 back piece
    1 cod piece
and a set of knees (with resin bits if you had them - you said you might be able to send some)

Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: What armor parts are folks looking for the most?

    Hey everyone,

First off, let me apologize for the extended delays in getting everybody their parts. I got very quickly swamped by a prop job for a movie- it started out as one model and then balooned into about a dozen different props over the course of the entire shoot. I haven't done movie work in a few years and I had forgotten just how all-consuming it is timewise.

Anyway, that project is done now and I believe I've gotten everyones parts out except for one that will be going out in the next couple of days.

If I missed anyone, please let me know.

If anyone is interested in any parts, let me know that too- the workshop is cleared and I've got plastic in stock so I'm ready to go!

    Thanks again for everyone's patience!

    Mark
