UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
UPDATED 6/25/08 Small Size Armor Added
Size from 5'-6" down to 3'-4"
Hello,
Well, I finally got around to converting my Boba Fett Armor CAD files into standard GIF images that will print out on standard 8 ½” X 11” paper they come in three basic sizes, but I have included scaling factors to cover folks from 5’3” to 6’. For those over 6’ I will be working on an extra large version in the near future. For the time being you can try print the Large Templates at scaling factors of over 100%, but you will have to print out the templates out on additional sheets
Each Zip file is over 3 MB each, and they each contain 22 files. The armor files consist of 20 8 ½” X 11” pages and 1 layout drawing, some of the armor pieces have to be printed on multiple sheets and then spliced together. I have included witness marks on these sheets to facilitate matching up the pieces. These files are full size and do not require the “Fit To Page” print option, simple print at 100%.
The 22st file is a printer test page that contains a 5” scale in both the horizontal and vertical, I’d recommend printing this page before attempting to print the templates to verify that your printer will not distort them. Just print it out and measure both scales they should equal 5” each, if not then check your printer options
My bandwidth is limited and with the size of these files it won’t take long to exceed it, please be patient they will be online for some time
See the Jango section for downloadable Jango armor templates.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know

If you are 1,87 then the Large printed at 100% would suit you fine.. i don't think than an inch or so back and forth doesn't make that whole lot of a difference.. it's the entire image that people look at.. not the details..
(unless they are one of those really picky people... the kind that looks down on the FX Stormtrooper helmet and think it looks like **** just because its 10% to big... <sigh> )

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Hello,
The large templates should do fine.
I should point out that the sizes listed above are merely just guidelines since everyone is different, there is no such thing as a standard size human, some have long legs other may have a long waist. You may have to try various sizes before you find the one that best suits your body proportions. Unfortunately there are no black and white answers. Jango is even harder to fit, the size that works for the upper body in all likelihood will not work for the legs.

I have checked the online files and they appear to working, but you are not the only one having difficulty. The files are quite large 4000 X 5000 pixels so that may be giving you software some problems. What program are you using?
Is anyone else having difficult viewing the templates? I can try to creating a lower resolution version if that is the problem.
Thanks guys, hopefully everyone finds them useful.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Sorry to vent my frustration. You did a great job. I am just VERY pissed that I spent the last WEEK doing the exact same thing... I should upload mine up here too. Nice job man.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Thanks for the encouragement.
I have created a set of low res templates of the large size for those having trouble with the full size version above, these are about ½ the size. The trick with these is that when you print them you WILL have to use the “Fit to Page” printer option. Also these templates assume a ¼” boarder, so if your printer does boarderless printing you will need set the printer’s boarder option to .25”.
http://home.comcast.net/~wizardoffli...LG_low_res.zip
Please let me know if these work and I will put together a set for the small and medium sizes as well.
Alan
darkskywalker: These have been in the works for a while just finally got around to breaking them down into a printable version. Too many other projects.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
I am guessing I am just stupid because when i open these in photoshop they are MASSIVE. Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks in advance

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
BobaFettSlave_1: Excellent, glad to here they are working.
Jades Dark Heart:
The files are 8” X 10.5” at 200 DPI so they are huge, but they should print out on a standard sheet of paper. If not let me know what your system is doing and I try to make some adjustments.

Hey WOF, I wonder if you have seen this. I dont know if its you selling them, so I thought i would let you see this. I know we arent supposed to post live auctions, but in this case i think it would be ok.

-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Jades Dark Heart: Change the resolution from 72 pixels/inch to 200 and that will reduce the templates down to 8" X 10.5".
Rimshot:
WOW! No not me, I have been doing that for the folks here for FREE.

Its a shame people will try to make a buck off the awesome and extremely generous work of a member here. We should let them know how we feel.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
That was fast. It would make sense that the person selling that is a member here then, right?
OHHH wow! THey just changed the image in the auction! They must be watching this thread....

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
The original image was the image straight from the top post, except coloured it. It's a shame people have to ruin the whole spirit of this forum and hobby by making profit off generous, talented people.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
This is no different than recasting. It is stealing someone else's work. If the auction does not come down, there will be a banning.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Guys,
Sorry to mislead you. I am the owner of the auction, however I am not stealing his fine work. I have in fact created a CAD template that was in the works well before this was posted. (see above) This thread just created a stir of making a few extra dollars online using the work I had created. I will distribute the CAD file to anyone who wants it for free, but the auction on line is for a scaled plotter printout (in other words, not 22 pages) of the armor. Again, its not traced from his work. In fact, I created the armor I also listed on ebay based on the drawings I created. I feel ashamed that this is how I must be conveyed on my first few days on this board. I am a digital arts major trying to make a little extra cash, thats all. I used the image above as placeholder until I got home, and when I saw that someone noticed it I immediately changed it to the actual drawing. Sorry for the confusion and I apologise sincerely. Please accept it, members, and of course wizard.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Here is the CAD file if anyone is interested in checking. It is even to scale. Im not trying to hijack this thread (please note). Thanks and sorry again.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
cooltd825: Which ones mine or darkskywalker?
You can print mine with any image program, as they are just GIF files.
darkskywalker's will require AutoCAD or a compatible CAD program.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
I would like to thank the Dent and everyone for their support and encouragement and quick action on my behalf. It is clear darkskywalker’s templates are of his own creation and that there was no attempt to bootleg mine. He has taken action by replacing my layout drawing with his own to correctly reflect the product in his e-bay auction. At this point I am considering the issue closed.
Thank you for your support. This is a great place with fantastic people, it's a pleasure being part of this community.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Im sorry I started this whole issue, when it ended up being nothing. Im not sorry about looking out for my fellow members though, even if it is nothing. I would hope everyone would do the same for me. Thats whats great about a family like this.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
There is nothing to apologies for that was an excellent catch, one never knows. There are a lot of scammers out there and I would hate to think that someone had to pay for something I am will to give for free. It has happened before, but luckily I managed to stop it before anyone got ripped off.
Thanks for watching my back.
Alan
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Please Note:
Well as is always the case I made a change to the templates. I was doing a mock up of the backplate and noticed that the shoulder straps were just barely long enough. So I went and lengthened the shoulder straps by 1" so that they will allow for trimming during the fitting process. All of the zip files have been updated.
Alan
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Hello,
I thought of a couple of more things to consider when cutting out the armor. It would be a good idea to cut the templates out of poster board or craft paper first and then test fit them in order to iron out any problems before cutting the Sintra. Also, the cod piece belt and the back belt are currently set to handle 40” around with a one inch overlap on each side. While 40” should accommodate most folks it might be advisable to add a few inches to both the cod piece belt and the back belt on each side, the excess can be trimmed away during the fitting process. The belt sits lower on the hips so it will be required to be larger than the standard waist line.
If anyone has additional words of wisdom please feel free to post them.
I’m thinking of putting together a tutorial to go with the templates. If is something that folks would find useful please let me know.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
When do you think you'll be ready with the templates for the guys over 6'. There are a lot of them out there. Although right now I'm perfectly fine with printing them out at over 100% size, just glad you made these. Thanks.

I've been out of town for the past week, so I haven't gotten anything done. In the past I have been doing custom templates for the large size Fetts out there, but I will be putting together some XL & XXL templates. It does gets a little tricky trying to fit the pieces on to 8X11 paper.
So, what would really be helpful is if I can get a idea of what sizes are needed, that way I can focus my efforts on those first.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Man, I can't believe I didn't catch this thread earlier! wizardofflight, where were you 4 years ago when I made my armor? You would have saved me a ton of time! This is some really nice work and you rock for sharing it to the board for free.:thumbsup
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
This is so AWESOME! Wizard is a beautiful human being!
I just found a place in my area to get Sintra from and now I find this thread. Everything is falling into place for my Fett suit.
As for the ebay issue, before I was told about TDH, I would have loved to find info on ebay like what darkskywalker is offering. Not everyone is aware of this amazing site and those poor souls need to get good info for their Fetts and if darkskywalker can make a few bucks to put towards his own Fett, I say good for him. Hey, it's not like he was trying to sell the plans here.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
can someone make a template for a suit about 4'7"
thanks
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
For 4'7" print out the small templates at 83%, that should get them the right size. If not then send me a PM or e-mail and I'll work you up a set of custom templates.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Great looking templates, but I have one problem. I tried opening one of the files in Paint, but I'm unable to change the resolution to get the templates to the correct size. Should I try opening them in a different program? And if so, what should I use? Any help is greatly appreciated.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
For MS Paint try going to the "File" "Page Setup" in the lower right hand corner set the "Fit to:" 1 page to 1 page. Also right above the "Fit to:" block you will have to reset the margins to .25" on all sides. This should resize the image and allow you to print it on a single page.
If you are still having a problem let me know and I see if I can revise the template to work easier with MS Paint.
Alan
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
There isn't a "Fit to" option under Page Settings. I'm on Windows 2000, if that matters.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Yes, I see the problem apparently the older versions of paint do not have that option. What size do you need? I will work up a set that is MS Paint compatible for you.
Alan
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
I'm about 5' 8", so a set of medium armor properly scaled should work for me. I'd appreciate it rather a lot.
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Trying to make a Paint compatible file just was not working out way too evolved. But I think I have a solution, I have converted a set of medium sized templates into a PDF file. The test run worked perfectly. So if you have Acrobat all you have to do is print them out and your off and running.[/
If this will work for you just PM me your e-mail address and I send them on over

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Allen,
Thanks so much for your contributions, I'll be doing a Boba Fett costume in '06 ( have TK armor now ) and making the hard armor parts myself will save me alot of cash that I can put towards on a better quality items on other parts of the costume.
Just wanted to let you know how much your time and work is appreciated
:cheers

Alan
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
I'm 5"7 and downloaded the medium file, but when I print it it all doesn't come out on one sheet and I also don't know how to get it to 97.1%? If you guys help me and I do get it working how do I trace the templates onto a trash can? Does 5" equal one foot on the scale? Thanks
-JangoFett_21:jango
-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
The armor templates are designed to print out on standard paper. Try using the fit to page option in the print comand of you graphics program. As for printing out to the 97% that will depend on the capabilities of your graphics program. Most programs will allow you to print a various scales.
If you are still having problems let me know and I can send you a PDF file that should clear up th printing issues. My e-mail is wizardofflight@comcast.net
The 5" scale should print out to equal 5" when the templates are printed full size.
Alan

Your welcome, I glad that they worked out ok. Since we just adopted a three year old litle boy I'll be making a set for him someday so I'd post some pics.
A few other board membeers have reduced the templates down for their kids, but the set I sent you is the first set of child armor that I have done so I am looking forward to seeing how it looks.
Have a great day.

Hello everyone, n00b here. Been looking at this site for awhile and decided to join.
These templates are simply amazing. Everything printed out like a dream, exactly to scale.
wizardofflight deserves a medal or something...

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Thank you, glad that they are working out for you. Make sure to post pics of your progress.
One thing that I have been meaning to point out is that the slots for the chest display should be cut to match the display that you are planning to use. The slots depicted in the templates won't match up, so please plan a head before you start cutting the slots.

-
Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Thanks for helping me out and making a new set of templates Wizardofflight! :D
I think the greatest part of making this costume for my son is that he is so excited about Star Wars, and he got that way without (much) prodding from me. He has a friend in town who is into the series, and it has just taken off... movies, video games, and now the costume.
I asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween this year. He was "Elvis" last year, dont know where he got that idea, but I assumed it would be something strange again this year. He said a stormtrooper. I thought cool, and started some internet research into costumes. I found some sites on costume building, and decided to go to Boba Fett instead, but build him a nice set instead of buy some premade thing. I did not tell him, figuring I could surprise him later. He tells a couple days ago that he changed his mind, and would really prefer to be Boba Fett. I have no idea how that happened, I didnt tell him what my plans were.
So I am building the trash can armor set for him, and going to try to scratchbuild a helmet. We will see how things go from there. I still have not told him I am doing it, I will be working on it after he goes to bed at night and when he is at school. I think he is going to be very surprised... and if it turns out nice, it will be like Christmas to me, watching his expression as he gets what he wanted all along. The simple things, right?
The hard part is getting things sized to him, without him realizing what I am doing.

I have been working on drawings for the clone armor, but because of its complexity there is no way that I can create a set of simple templates. It will require sculpting/carving to be able to create the compound curves.
Sorry,

Thank you so much for these amazing templates. Even first timers like me can handle cutting out a pattern and matching it. I am doing my sons armor out of foam, as we are monetarily challenged. --This forum is an amazing resource. Thank you wizard of flight.

Oh by the way, any template for clone armor, no matter how simple would help with our other project. We are not as accurate and detailed as the incredible costumers on these boards, as we are beginners, but we just need visuals . . .
thanks again to all of you who take the time to help clueless moms and dads make their kids happy!! It is truly appreciated.

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
I'm trying to get my XL templates to print to scale. I've been messing around in photo shop for about an hour now. The 'print test page' comes out fine (.25" tall, 5" long), but for some reason the rest won't print with the 5" scale. They are the same .25" tall as the test page, but the lenght of the scale is just shy of 5.25".
Tried Photoshop, Paint, Mozilla, and the Windows picture an fax viewer. All can nail the test page, but the same settings with the armor itself yields the above results....what am I doing wrong?

Re: UPDATED PRINTABLE ARMOR TEMPLATES - In various sizes
Any updates on the Jango Armor templates? I found someone that is going to laser them for me out of aluminum.
Has anyone else here done that, if so, what gauge did you use? I looked at both 14 & 16 gauge and I personaly thought that the 14 was too thick but don't want it too thin either.

Very impressive. Thank you!
of course, now I feel terribly short (I'm only 5ft 7)
