Hey all, I've been working on my armor for about a day now, And I'm posting my photobucket link.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Nachturnus/
The armor is a dark purple, and the bodysuit and vest will be black. Obviously, this is a custom mando.
Im running off of the templates from whitenoise productions, but teh only problem is, I cant find a decent shin and foor armor template, anyone got a link or something?
Been just browsing for quite a while and this thread prompted me to register.
This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a while. You've convinced me its time to make a Fett.
u can do it with fiberglass too, but that looks cheaper.
u could also spray paint it a metallic green then put scratches in it.
cool :thumbsup
Figured it was about time I posted a picture of my costume, made from a trash can. This was as far as I was able to get before May 19th. I've stopped all work on it since then, but when I have time, I'm planning on picking up where I left off. Take a gander and tell me what you think.
Helmet is a DP '96, repainted, visor added, mesh over the holes, and LEDs (non-working) added to the RF.
Jumpsuit is custom made from pictures I found on TK-409's website, with the help of my amazing mother. I got the material (grey canvas mind you) from walmart for a $1 a yard, 3 yards total.
Vest was made of canvas my mother had in her basement (she has a lot of material). Neck seal (needs to be redone) made from the same material.
Ammo belt was made from a holster belt I bought for $1 from a local thrift store. The pouches were made out of fake leather I got for $.25 from the same thrift store (only enough material to make about 12 pouches; fortunately I only needed 8 ) and sewn by me. The side pouches were also sewn by me, custom pattern, and made from the same canvas the vest is made out of.
Girth belt was made from nylon rope I found at the same thrift store mentioned above, $1 for 100yds. It is sewn on to an adjustable belt I also got from the thrift store, $1. The cod piece is attatched permanently to the belt. This worked out nice, and kept it in place.
Cape was made from an old army shirt I got from the thrift store, $4.
Blaster (WIP) is made from a toy telescope (barrel) and what I believe to be part of a crossbow, (handle) both purchased from the same thrift store. I hope to find some more pieces to finish it off.
Everything purchased from the thrift store wasn't a one time stop. It involved WEEKS of scouring the store, every couple of days in hope of finding something I could use.
Oh, and thanks again Mr. Walmart-trashcan-into-Boba-Fett-armor-Dude.

Let me know what you think.
Looks good. I'm currently forging some from a 5 gallon paint bucket. FYI - If you want to, get the buckets from Lowes...they're slightly thicker and stronger. I have all the chest armor done...moving on to the back tonight.
Rubbermaid brand trash can armor for starwars biggest fan, my 4 yr old son! he walks and breathes sw!!!! He never leaves the house without his light saber. His most recent statement when he is upset with me is...."don't make me turn to the dark side dad!" he loves my jango helmet so i thought i would surprise him this yr with his very own Jango costume....
much thanks for this awesome idea, i was fixing to do fg then came across this thread...WOW, quick and painless!
now need to get the little guy his own :jango :jet pack
Awesome! I wish i had the skill to do that, i do need a cod peice :rolleyes
:fettrotj
What a fantastic idea.
all looks fantastic, thanks for doing my vest for me too.
cant wait to get it.
I just purchased some chest armor but without the neck-back- and legs. So i was curious if for FOIOOO how he made the leggings and the back? Any templets i could get a hold of? Oh and also everyone always talks about vests, some make them some buy them, well i need one. So anyone have advice? Thanks. :fettchest
i used the templates in the jango forum of courseQuote:

Longtime lurker here! I wasn't planning on posting my Fett development until all my softparts were complete (which is one piece away), but once I discovered this thread it got me super motivated to just try it out. I managed to get the exact 13 gal can, unfortunately no 8 gal so I just grabbed one of the smaller 4 gal bathroom types. So, using the Wizard of Flight's templates, the recommend tin snips and scoring method I went to work. The whole think took only a couple of Spagetti Westerns to complete. (BTW, expect your hands to be in the shape of claws when it's over) :doh
The most difficult part was transferring the templates as they were printed out on standard printer paper, it took many swipes with a thin sharpie and straight edge to get a light transfer through, I was able to then go back over with the sharpie.
The cutting of the shapes with the snips is fairly easy but kills your hands as does the scoring on your fingers. I continued to use the metal straight edge to score at the outlines. Once you see just how perfect the plastic snaps off, you'll want to work quick. However, don't get impatient with this step, really score it down. If you rush you may accidently crack one of the piece. If I'd just slowed down a bit, my cod would have been perfect.
If you place the templates right, you may not need to reshape anything. However, I just used the boiling water techinque and the stuff reforms nicely. I have to give major props to AFettFullofDollars for starting this whole deal and Wizards great templates. I'm a novice craftsman at best and everyone was majorly impressed with what they saw laying on the kitchen table.
Here's my results (the cod is missing the center piece):

Wow, truly inspiring work people. Rat Fett, that turned out perfect good job bud. I’ve wanted to take the plunge into this project for years now and I finally see the door opening. I’ve also been a sculptor for about 14 years and I love when people take a creative approach like this and the end result is incredible.
Once I get started I’ll throw my pics into the fray. Thanks for the inspiration guys (and or girls)
Nevermind
i'm intrigued
Thank u sooooo much for sharing this idea.
I have literally knocked down what i believe to be the hardest part of the costume IMO
thanks to ur trash can idea.
This is a really cool idea! :thumbsup
My question though, is how well does the paint stick to the trashcan plastic?
sand and prime and it'll stick perfectly
hey, this trash can armor looks AWESOME....i kno u have all heard that a thousand times, but really...that is innovative. now i have a question, i am about 5'8" 185 lbs. what size should the armor peices be for my vest? and what else can be made from these trash cans?
Check out wizard of flights Blueprints thread. It has all sizes.Quote:

Use your imagination. You can make anything out of trash cans. It's just a cheaper plastic than normally used sintra.
ah-ha! thanks for the info. i just ordered a rubies jango helmet today (yuck), but its a start....but what about gauntlets? i am also looking for a flak vest to put the armor on and lastly i'd like to get holsters, any ideas?
I must say, this is a FANTASTIC idea with awesome aesthetic results! I have a question though. would it be better/easier if I cut the armour plates out with a dremel?
that's what I did for my cod and backplate...
works well.
Thanks! this gives me motivation to actually go out and buy a dremel :PQuote:

Any chance on sending/posting/pm'ing a link to this? I couldn't find them. Would like to try this...Quote:

This is the kind of stuff that happens when you're not around that much as you used to. Man, KUDOS to all of the guys who were brave enough (still GENIUS) to come up with the idea of the Trash Can Armor. Never thought of that before.
:cheers :thumbup
My resolution, try to use snaps or armor. The magnets won't hold firmly, and you'll miss a couple of magnets in the process (believe me), and the second most reliable is VELCRO, but also has it's draws, specially in the outer corners. Otherwise...NICELY DONE, guys!)
Robert :fettrotj
I actually used a home depot bucket, only downside is making the back plate is hard to do. My first version was made out of sheet metal, that took a lil more work.http://www.thejediknightsofcleveland...xmas05_021.jpg This is a semi good picture of the sheet metal converted to custom mando works great on battledamaging!
well I made 2 cuts and folded them together, then put 2 bolts through it and bondoed it together... looks ok :)Quote:

Can the plastic be heated up to be better formed to the body once it has been cut out, without warping or melting? This is an awesome idea...I cant wait to try this out.
In my experiences with trash can plastic, it doesn't heat evenly, gets sticky and melts.
An alternate material that I've not heard of anyone using is 1/32nd inch thick pvc pipe.
Best cut with power tools as it is a hard plastic, but can be heated in the oven or with a heat gun and is like rubber when heated. It can be stretched into shape and will keep that shape when it cools. It takes some work to get larger pieces smooth if not pulled over a form.
I built my jet pack out of trashcan plastic, haha. I want to modify it though..
Thanks for the advice sabiru...I think I will try both methods to see how each one works.
Gamer...do you have pics of the jet pack you made from trash can plastic? I am interested to see how it turned out.
how much for finished Armor
Here is a pic of my "Trash Can Jet Pack!!"Quote:

It needs to be modified and needs a new paintjob, but the overall shape is good. The tanks at the bottom are not supposed to stick out like that, I need to shave them off, also it's cracking un peu on the sides where the plastic was glued, so I'll goop them up really well and fill in those holes.
It also needs the side thrusters.

This tread is not for selling armour, but I am not sure if you mean if you are inquiring about a purchase or asking how much funds it required to build the armour.Quote:

GCNgamer, that jet pack is awesome!!! Do you have any WIP pics or any kind of insight on how exactly you got it out of trashcans? I've already made my armor out of a trashcan, and I just can't imagine getting something that awesome out of it!
I don't really have any WIP shots... but I have these.

I've been to 6 different Wal-Marts, two different Meijer's, and three different Targets and have only been able to find the smaller of the 2 trashcans shown in the original posts. Can anyone out there clue me in on where I might be able to find the larger trashcan?
I have'nt tried a K-Mart yet because all the K-Marts in our area were closed down several years ago and the nearest one is about 50 miles or so away.
Thanks in advance for any help!:thumbsup

I don't think we have those chains around here, although I seem to remember seeing a Von's in Cincinnati. Thanks for the input!Quote:

I bought a full set of biker scout (TB) armor (helmet included) for $200.00 a few years ago, but thought it might be more fun to create all the armor myself (used to love building model airplanes etc.. when I was a kid). I've started to get tired of going as a biker scout for halloween (already won a few hundred dollars at costume contests) and this year will probably be my last as a biker scout before I start on Jango Fett. Thanks again for any info.
where did u get the templates for the armor? and could you post em or send em? thanks.
WHAT IS THE BEST JANGO PAINT TO USE FOR THE TRASH CAN ARMOR??!?! IVE HEARD OF RUB N BUFF BUT IS THIER ANYTHING ELSE I WOULD NEED TO USE??!?!
Su'cuy Vode!
Well im new here so forgive my ignorance if i ask soemthing thats been asked before or is just stupid altogether.
So anyway what a fantastic idea! this has deffinatley motivated me to make my own beskar'gam! but first a simple question does anyone in the UK know of a suitable bin to use? i just had a walk around town and couldnt see anything worth using so any suggestions on where to look would be brilliant.
Anyway any help would be much appreciated!
Ret'vode!

Looks like I can add mine up here too. Steralite kit purchased off ebay cause I didnt see this thread before I bought it. Obviously a custom paint. Such an economical way to get into mando armor.

Well I've joined the trashcan Fetts and I need help with attaching the back plate to the front. Any suggestions?
I love trash can armor.
Thanks for the inspiration. My friend's dad is a manager at a waste management company, and i was able to obtain one of those giant rolling garbage cans. I'll probobly start making armor in a couple of months, so i'll post when i start selling .
does anyone know how you would go about rub n buffing this armor, would you need to primer it first? or just apply it directly to the plastic???
thanx!
Wanted to add my Trashcan Fett. Helmet is a Rubies than needs some modifications, and the blasters are from a very cheap set but worked.... Gauntlets were from - toilet brush holder.... right size and everything.. but need to do a LOT of work on them - No Jet pack yet.. the ammo pouched are just vinyl with upholstry glue... all in all - I like the way it turned out and took I would say around 40 hours to complete.http://myspace-033.vo.llnwd.net/0137...70937033_l.jpg
You can see the slip on this quick picture of the armor over the belt... one of the straps slipped. Found out the best way to work with this was to use elastice and very small screws.. then grind the screws down to nothing and use a little bondo to cover any imperfections.
LOTS of sanding is needed to have stuff stick better and the pain to go on well.
I used two layers of Black, two layers of silver then a layer of black and a layer of silver - then just lef tthe armor on for all day on Halloween... by endo of day - interesting effects for "damage"!
I found that heating this stuff over the stove really lets you work with it. I had high temp. gloves - like welding gloves - that I held on to the plastic with as I bent it and then stuck it in the ice cold water to freeze it into shape.
Its a seperate section here that focuses strictly on Jango Fett...
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/jango-fett-costume/
oh ok thanx btw can anyone give me some good tips on makin my mando or sellin any possibley?:jaster
I just thought id drop in my armor
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1170480658
What type of condition does this type of armor turn out to be? Does it wobble or shake when you walk? About how thick and malleable is the plastic?
Ze picture! Captain I don't think the ship can hold it any more! Hehe, nice armor you got there!
Hey I can't really see any of the details in that pic... do you have a bigger one by an chance? :lol
It looks pretty good, kep us posted with the paint up.
Look at the size of that thing! (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Dang, Zombie! I've got tears running down my face from laughing at your post.
Great... I made AFFo$ cry.....:lol
heh, great trash can armor guys! nice idea :)
man, i've got to say, this has to be the sweetest way to make some affordable armour. i've got most of my stuff done and ready to put on my flak vest.......as soon as i get that vest done that is. really easy to shape this stuff too, with a little heat. thanks a lot man
did anyone make the leg armor? i'm curious as to where to place the templates on the can to get the proper curvature.
:skull
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showt...light=template
There are the Jango armour templates.
i have the templates, just not sure where to put them to get the right curve
:skull
Heres a pic of my trash can armor (unpainted) and lame helmet not yet modified and my weapons :skull
and now its painted and ive gotten started on the helm
As has been said many times here--GREAT IDEA!!! I have not been able to find Sintra, so this looks like a great possibility! :D
question is it possable to make the back piece of armor form a trash can?
Good question...
Today, I did find the trash cans that are mentioned to use. Total would only come to about $13. NOT BAD at all to get started on armor!! I did not pick them up yet, but at least I know where to find them.:lol
yeah i am close to buying some two cost me about 20 bux give or take but i owe people money for a car accident so i am gonna be poor for a while
psh cars, who needs em? lol
Thanks to everyone for all this information. I am making two little boys (age 4 and 6) a boba and jango. So now it will be less costly. This is a great site!!
Jeanne/jdboushh
it IS possible, but it requires quite a bit of thought ahead of time to get it lined up properly .. and you have to do it in 2 pieces and then attach them, otherwise it gets smaller on one side than the other due to the shape of the cans.
you'll need almost an entire large trash can just for the backpiece.
My Mando-minded buddy :skull and I have templates printed out, and two of the smaller trash cans to get started on this! He's really wanting to get going on this project, and I'm glad to have someone to kick me in the shebs to keep me going LOL Everyone has listed some great method ideas for painting and battle damage. As we're going out to get the large cans today, I made sure to come back here and see what to use for cutting, so I might try to find some tinsnips today too.
I have used Krylon Fusion for plastics spraypaint before with good results (I also custom-painted a clone trooper blaster for my daughter's costume this year), so I might try that stuff out on some scrap pieces of the trash can plastic to see how well it sticks without sanding first. Cans of that paint run about $5-6 each. Depending on how many layers you might need and colors you want, I'd guess about 2 cans at the least maybe. They have an awesome hammered metallic silver color that works good as a starter coat, then a different color on top...lightly rough out a few spots with steel wool to let some silver show through--that's what I did for my daughter's blaster, and I'm hoping it will work for this too.
I had thought a dremmel tool would be ideal for making dents and such, and I already have one ;)
Really pimp way to make a armor! xD
We got our big cans yesterday...so soon we'll get started!! :D
What's one man's trashcan is another man's armor treasure.
This is pure genius!
That's so cool! I'll go try that right away!
GENIUS! PURE GENIUS! YOU HAVE JUST MADE MY WALLET HAPPY!
Thanks
David
I may have missed it somewhere in this thread, but does anyone have any printable templates?
Do a search for wizardofflight armor templates, he's got the best templates in the world.
