The armor is a dark purple, and the bodysuit and vest will be black. Obviously, this is a custom mando.
Im running off of the templates from whitenoise productions, but teh only problem is, I cant find a decent shin and foor armor template, anyone got a link or something?

This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a while. You've convinced me its time to make a Fett.
u can do it with fiberglass too, but that looks cheaper.
u could also spray paint it a metallic green then put scratches in it.

Figured it was about time I posted a picture of my costume, made from a trash can. This was as far as I was able to get before May 19th. I've stopped all work on it since then, but when I have time, I'm planning on picking up where I left off. Take a gander and tell me what you think.
Helmet is a DP '96, repainted, visor added, mesh over the holes, and LEDs (non-working) added to the RF.
Jumpsuit is custom made from pictures I found on TK-409's website, with the help of my amazing mother. I got the material (grey canvas mind you) from walmart for a $1 a yard, 3 yards total.
Vest was made of canvas my mother had in her basement (she has a lot of material). Neck seal (needs to be redone) made from the same material.
Ammo belt was made from a holster belt I bought for $1 from a local thrift store. The pouches were made out of fake leather I got for $.25 from the same thrift store (only enough material to make about 12 pouches; fortunately I only needed 8 ) and sewn by me. The side pouches were also sewn by me, custom pattern, and made from the same canvas the vest is made out of.
Girth belt was made from nylon rope I found at the same thrift store mentioned above, $1 for 100yds. It is sewn on to an adjustable belt I also got from the thrift store, $1. The cod piece is attatched permanently to the belt. This worked out nice, and kept it in place.
Cape was made from an old army shirt I got from the thrift store, $4.
Blaster (WIP) is made from a toy telescope (barrel) and what I believe to be part of a crossbow, (handle) both purchased from the same thrift store. I hope to find some more pieces to finish it off.
Everything purchased from the thrift store wasn't a one time stop. It involved WEEKS of scouring the store, every couple of days in hope of finding something I could use.

Looks good. I'm currently forging some from a 5 gallon paint bucket. FYI - If you want to, get the buckets from Lowes...they're slightly thicker and stronger. I have all the chest armor done...moving on to the back tonight.
Rubbermaid brand trash can armor for starwars biggest fan, my 4 yr old son! he walks and breathes sw!!!! He never leaves the house without his light saber. His most recent statement when he is upset with me is...."don't make me turn to the dark side dad!" he loves my jango helmet so i thought i would surprise him this yr with his very own Jango costume....

I just purchased some chest armor but without the neck-back- and legs. So i was curious if for FOIOOO how he made the leggings and the back? Any templets i could get a hold of? Longtime lurker here! I wasn't planning on posting my Fett development until all my softparts were complete (which is one piece away), but once I discovered this thread it got me super motivated to just try it out. I managed to get the exact 13 gal can, unfortunately no 8 gal so I just grabbed one of the smaller 4 gal bathroom types. So, using the Wizard of Flight's templates, the recommend tin snips and scoring method I went to work. The whole think took only a couple of Spagetti Westerns to complete. (BTW, expect your hands to be in the shape of claws when it's over) :doh
The most difficult part was transferring the templates as they were printed out on standard printer paper, it took many swipes with a thin sharpie and straight edge to get a light transfer through, I was able to then go back over with the sharpie.
The cutting of the shapes with the snips is fairly easy but kills your hands as does the scoring on your fingers. I continued to use the metal straight edge to score at the outlines. Once you see just how perfect the plastic snaps off, you'll want to work quick. However, don't get impatient with this step, really score it down. If you rush you may accidently crack one of the piece. If I'd just slowed down a bit, my cod would have been perfect.
If you place the templates right, you may not need to reshape anything. However, I just used the boiling water techinque and the stuff reforms nicely. I have to give major props to AFettFullofDollars for starting this whole deal and Wizards great templates. I'm a novice craftsman at best and everyone was majorly impressed with what they saw laying on the kitchen table.

Wow, truly inspiring work people. Rat Fett, that turned out perfect good job bud. I’ve wanted to take the plunge into this project for years now and I finally see the door opening. I’ve also been a sculptor for about 14 years and I love when people take a creative approach like this and the end result is incredible.

I must say, this is a FANTASTIC idea with awesome aesthetic results! I have a question though. would it be better/easier if I cut the armour plates out with a dremel?

My resolution, try to use snaps or armor. The magnets won't hold firmly, and you'll miss a couple of magnets in the process (believe me), and the second most reliable is VELCRO, but also has it's draws, specially in the outer corners. Otherwise...NICELY DONE, guys! :thumbsup:)

I actually used a home depot bucket, only downside is making the back plate is hard to do. Can the plastic be heated up to be better formed to the body once it has been cut out, without warping or melting? This is an awesome idea...I cant wait to try this out.
In my experiences with trash can plastic, it doesn't heat evenly, gets sticky and melts.
An alternate material that I've not heard of anyone using is 1/32nd inch thick pvc pipe.
Best cut with power tools as it is a hard plastic, but can be heated in the oven or with a heat gun and is like rubber when heated. It can be stretched into shape and will keep that shape when it cools. It takes some work to get larger pieces smooth if not pulled over a form.
I built my jet pack out of trashcan plastic, haha. I want to modify it though..

I've been to 6 different Wal-Marts, two different Meijer's, and three different Targets and have only been able to find the smaller of the 2 trashcans shown in the original posts. Can anyone out there clue me in on where I might be able to find the larger trashcan?
I have'nt tried a K-Mart yet because all the K-Marts in our area were closed down several years ago and the nearest one is about 50 miles or so away.

Well im new here so forgive my ignorance if i ask soemthing thats been asked before or is just stupid altogether.
So anyway what a fantastic idea! this has deffinatley motivated me to make my own beskar'gam! but first a simple question does anyone in the UK know of a suitable bin to use? i just had a walk around town and couldnt see anything worth using so any suggestions on where to look would be brilliant.

You can see the slip on this quick picture of the armor over the belt... one of the straps slipped. Found out the best way to work with this was to use elastice and very small screws.. then grind the screws down to nothing and use a little bondo to cover any imperfections.
LOTS of sanding is needed to have stuff stick better and the pain to go on well.
I used two layers of Black, two layers of silver then a layer of black and a layer of silver - then just lef tthe armor on for all day on Halloween... by endo of day - interesting effects for "damage"!
I found that heating this stuff over the stove really lets you work with it. I had high temp. gloves - like welding gloves - that I held on to the plastic with as I bent it and then stuck it in the ice cold water to freeze it into shape.
The stove can cause it to burn. Boil up some water or use a heatgun. Sintra fumes is Chlorine Gas and is EXTREMELY TOXIC, so NEVER use fire to shape it.Quote:

What type of condition does this type of armor turn out to be? Does it wobble or shake when you walk? About how thick and malleable is the plastic?

it IS possible, but it requires quite a bit of thought ahead of time to get it lined up properly .. and you have to do it in 2 pieces and then attach them, otherwise it gets smaller on one side than the other due to the shape of the cans.Quote:

As we're going out to get the large cans today, I made sure to come back here and see what to use for cutting, so I might try to find some tinsnips today too.
I have used Krylon Fusion for plastics spraypaint before with good results (I also custom-painted a clone trooper blaster for my daughter's costume this year), so I might try that stuff out on some scrap pieces of the trash can plastic to see how well it sticks without sanding first. Cans of that paint run about $5-6 each. Depending on how many layers you might need and colors you want, I'd guess about 2 cans at the least maybe. They have an awesome hammered metallic silver color that works good as a starter coat, then a different color on top...lightly rough out a few spots with steel wool to let some silver show through--that's what I did for my daughter's blaster, and I'm hoping it will work for this too.
I had thought a dremmel tool would be ideal for making dents and such, and I already have one ;)
