Starting FP ESB gauntlet build - Flamethrower question

I've started working on my gaunts from FP, and noticed that there's resin that sits under the aluminum stalks of the left gaunt flamethrower. I'm not sure if this is structual or if just a part of the mold. I know removing the resin here would make it more screen accurate, but wasnt sure if this was the best solution as its more stable with it left intact.

Has anyone here built up the flamethrower with this in place?
