    ROTJ Gauntlet Build (Stormtrooperguy molds)

I figured since it's been a while since I've had a build/showoff thread, I'd post my newest build. As you may have read in Stormtrooperguy's thread, I had gone to his place and made a set of resin gauntlets off of the molds he made using the Wizard of Flight plans. It was a fun experience as I've never molded anything in resin before. Brian did an exceptional job with the molds and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I guess I should have been posting these all along instead of all at once but you get the same idea.

Step 1: Basic trimming and sanding completed and the hinges installed.

Step 2: Plumbing and Air Fitting parts installed and kit primered

Here's the air hose fitting that I found. Only found it at Sears Hardware as The Home Depot and True Value didn't have anything even remotely close.

Step 3: Added the closer attachments on the inside of the gauntlets and bolted on the flame thrower housing

Step 4: Painted them silver/aluminum and then installed the lights for inside the flame thrower

Here's the flame thrower nozzle pieces from Radio Shack:

And here's the pushbuttons I used. Don't make the same mistake I did... make sure you buy the one's marked "normally closed" or else you'll have the lights constantly on until you press the buttons.

Step 5: Installed the red lamp on the right gauntlet

Step 6: Masked off damage areas with liquid masking fluid and painter's tape.

Step 7: 1 coat of flat black

Step 8: Sprayed coat of Claret Wine and began to pull off the masking:

Step 9: Painted up the aluminum rocket

Step 10: Rocket attached to the gauntlet. (Photographed in natural lighting)

    Next up...

    - painting the calc pad buttons
    - sanding the gaunlets lightly with a number zero steel wool to tone down the claret wine
    - installing the switches to both gauntlets
    - little more black weathering
    - flat, clear coat

I think your first set looks good but you need more practice with the resin. Feel free to practice on a new cast and send it my way. JK (not really).

    Nice Job!!

    Looks good
but I do have a question...
why the black coat between the silver & Claret Wine?

Because without the black coat, the claret wine comes off as too pinkish. The black helps to darken and tone it down.

i've found that it's the difference between fabulous pink gauntlets and something that actually looks like the right color

Going in on it with the number zero steel wool afterwards helps big time too. Really dulls it down and gives it that powdery, dusty look that it should have.

i will be Real Soon Now. my friend sean that casts the clone helmets will be doing them. he's supposed to come by some time this week to do a test run on them.

we're debating between the stuff bob and i used or fiberglass. the fiberglass would be faster and easier, but smelly and messy.

Sounds good! I'd be partial to urethane instead of fiberglass, but I'm sure they will be great either way.

i'm not a glass fan either. right now it takes about an hour and a half per set of gauntlets, so we're trying to reduce that time a bit.

Re: ROTJ Gauntlet Build (Stormtrooperguy molds)

So, I forgot to update this thread last week... I finished the gauntlets (minus the little Bic Lighter thingy on the right one and the darts) last week for an event. They turned out fantastic!

Me with whistle8mp in his awesome Commander Baccara costume:

So, as luck would have it... my new Russ Rep gauntlet darts came in the mail the same day as that event, after I left so I didn't have them installed then. I installed them last night with JB Weld before a photo shoot I had today. They look a LOT better than this terrible picture shows. Please excuse all the resin dust!

Still need to install the Bic Lighter thing but otherwise, these bad boys are done.

They look great! I'm going to have to check out the Wizard templates. I'm especially excited about them since I'm small and can scale them down.

Hey, where's the "BIC lighter-thinguie" you talked about? Right now, based on your last pic....NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE! (j/k)

Good job, webchief, my brother! Actually, just learning one more thing from you this time to assemble mines.
