ROTJ armor (all the green is done!!!!)

I just thought I´d share where I´m at with my armor. This is after doing the silver layer with an airbrush and Humbrol #11

Does this look acceptable? :-) I´m doing a full layer of yellow next (just need to wait ´til the last part cures fully).

You can also see the pencil outline for the scarring on some of the pieces. I´ve tried to replicate the scarring from the MoM reference pics to some extend at least.

    Thanks!

I´ve never done this before, so this is my first attempt. So far I´m happy with the progress. But greater challenges lie ahead... :-)

Are you gonna put a piece behind the diamond to fill the back of the cut out part?

I thought I´d just glue on a piece of sheet metal or something from behind. As far as I can tell from the pics it metal at least.

    Re: Sintra chestarmor

Cutting out the pieces and forming them was done in an evening. I did the priming and painting over several days, just to let my wife have a pause from the paintsmell every once in a while. But the process up to this stage can easily be done in two full evenings. I´d estimate about 10-12 hours of work all together if you keep at it.

    UPDATE:

Painted the yellow layer on the chest and collar today. I was afraid the yellow was a bit off, but when I painted topically on the MLC pieces it looks ok.

Check out the pics (next up is doing the green):

    The MLC pieces weathered:

    Re: Sintra chestarmor

Ok, I'm on the verge of getting going with the green stuff. I've tried searching all around without really coming up with an answer. I know some people just eyeball the color (seeing as pictures don't always show you the right shade). I've got some armor pieces that are spruce green and I'm thinking about trying to match that color by mixing some humbrol. But would I also ned another shade of green on top of that as well?

I have humbrol #76 which looks ok. Does anyone have a definitive humbrol paintlist for ROTJ armor?

Worst case and I'll just sand it down and do it again. But I'd like to skip that part, if I can :-) Any help would be appreciated!

Wow...really nice shaped armour you got there! I'd be interested in how you got the right shape for the chest plates? - I'm working on a custom mando armour and mine just doesn't want to shape propperly

    Re: Sintra chestarmor

I just heated it in the oven at around 80 degrees centigrade for 5-10 mins, shaped it with my hands and put it in cold water. Voilà!

I'm considering offering these at a later time, depending on what I'll have to pay for the sintra as opposed to what it costs in other parts of the world. We'll see how that fares at a later time though. Gotta finish up Boba first:-)

Ok. Finally got to paint my chest green!!

Here's a couple of pics. I'm looking to get soe feedback on the color especially, but any comments are welcome:-) This is my first paintjob ever, so keep that in mind please :-)

I added some scratches, they look a little more protruding than they really are becuase of the flash though.

    Here we go:

Re: Sintra chestarmor UPDATED (again) 01/17/09

Got the pieces misted black and added the chest decal. And yes, I know the diamond is missing. I can't find it after my wife cleaned the house...

I still need to do the black wash and seal the deal with a clear cote. Probably get that done tomorrow. Stay tuned

    Here's the pics:

Re: Sintra chestarmor ROTJ UPDATED 01/17/09

I'm kinda impatient, so I got the black wash done today as well. The prepeinted MLC pieces are now more the same color as my own paintjob, and with a dull clearcote I should be fine :-) Check out the pics:

Thanks! I was afraid it was a little heavily weathered, but I might just be my own worst critic though. Hehe.

Re: ROTJ armor (all the green is done!!!!)

Not bad but the black wash looks too painted on, I would use either a larger brush or an airbrush to eliminate the brush strokes. I'd probably also take some fine grade sandpaper or 00 steel wool and carefully sand out some of the black spray and wash from some of the silver parts.

A minor nitpick, instead of masking out all of the yellow and silver I probably would have sanded some of it out instead to make some look more like it's been worn off gradually as opposed to chipped or scraped off. But that's just me and you clearly have more experience at this than I do since I've never painted anything larger than a (new) BSG blaster and weathering some like that is quite different than weathering armor. Good job overall.

Re: ROTJ armor (all the green is done!!!!)

I see what you, at least with the cod-piece. It's not as noticable in real life, the flash kinda brings it out a bit more. But I'll try the steelwool on just to remove the "strokes" the paper made when I added the wash.

When it comes to teh silver/yellow, I always thought of it as chipped and scraped though :-) BUt things like that seems like it boils down to how you interpret it all in the end

Thanks for the the tips though. I'm learning as I go here, as this is my first paintjob ever.
