My New FP Armor - Progress Pics

Well, others have done it so I'll try my hand at it... here's my first step in the FP armor progress. I bought the vacu-formed armor... trimmed and sanded it down... just need to cut out the chest light slots and add the dents to the right shoulder bell and collar armor.

Hey webchief I don't mean to hi jack your thread by any means, but I too got my set of vacced FP armor in today, and had a few questions. First, I have never used a dremel before and was just wondering what kind of bit and what not was needed to do the sanding work. Also, how do you plan about assembling the knee armor? Thanks for any help you can give!

Looks like great stuff! I'm trying to decide whether to get some glass or vacc'ed armor myself.
On the left chest piece, is there any indication for where to cut the slots for the display? Or is it just a question of studying reference pics and measuring? Just curious.

No reference points visible on the vacced armor atleast, but I don't think it should be too hard to figure out the spot to place the slots.

I used the cutting disk to get it as close as I could and then switched to sanding drums to smooth out the edges. Then I took sandpaper (medium grit) and smoothed out the edges more until I was comfortable with it.

As for the knee armor I didn't order FPs. I'm sticking with something else for that.

Got motivated last night and cut out the chest slots. I also added the dents to the collar armor and to the right shoulder bell. Also painted everything with its first coat of primer. I'll be updating with a few more pics tonight.

Re: My New FP Armor - Progress Pics

Well, I finally got around to buying an airbrush so I was able to paint armor with the U.S. Med Green on top of a silver color. I attempted to use rubber cement to mask the scratches and dents but wasn't happy with the results. It looked great in terms of making the paint look layered (because it was) but it wouldn't conform to where I wanted it to go as much as I'd like. I ended up sanding it off and just repainting it green. I decided to just paint the dents topically and to physically score the surface of the paint to bring out the silver underneath for the scratches.

I got VERY motivated last night and took the green armor and went to town with painting on the damage. It's not done but I'm pleased with the progress.

Here's some pictures of the progress. Please excuse the poor photography... it was late (3AM...ouch!)

Just like I said on the NEG forum, Awesome stuff Bob. Did you use rubber cement for the masking or liquid mask. The mask should be fairly easy to work with but cement I can only imagine.

Yo Tyler! I used rubber cement. I Don't recommend it!

I've never actually been able to find liquid mask anywhere. I'll stick with the technique I've got going on here... I'm digging it.

Thanks again for the kind words guys! Means a lot!

Dirtied it up with some acryllic washes and added the decal. Still needs something... I took these pictures outside but the sunlight seems to have washed out the color a bit...the armor is darker than this.

That's because it is. The vest is made from the fabric that Bobbafettish researched and sold in bulk and was put together by TK409's sister. Can't beat it for accuracy and quality. The fabric is dead on.

I can't wait to completely suit up with my new stuff and post a side by side comparision shot to how my suit looked just a few months ago.

I appreciate your comments. Thank you. That's what this hobby should be all about! I feel that us "old timers" should give back to the group in any way we can... whether it be with tips and tricks, advice, parts or information. We were all there as newbies at one point.

On to the shoulder bells. The shoulders took me about 7 hours to paint spread out over 3 days. I sat in front of the computer using the MoM pics and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I love the comparison shots too! What do ya think?

Capricorn armor is great if you ask me. Its one piece knee armor as compared to the standard three piece. Some might be turned off by that but myself... I like that because its much more sturdy. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

    And that is more accurate

Any info on Capricorn armor? I can't say I've heard of it before.

Capricorn Armor is run by my buddy Greg. He doesn't make anything Fett other than the knee armor right now.

Other stuff he sells are Biker Scout armor, Imperial Navy Gunner helmets and Rebel Fleet Trooper helmets.

Here's a picture of my knee armor rough trimmed.

I painted and weathered my knee armor tonight. I'm not totally pleased but they're not too shabby I guess.

Looks awesome! I love the depth of those! How do you do the scratches (the little ones not the silver)?

Thank you. I also took your lead and filled in the dent on the left knee and made my own up higher. I wanted the MoM and movie armor.

The little scratches you're talking about... do you mean the red ones? That was done with pastels. I also did a ton of washes and layering of paint. I then took a tiny brush and painted in a bunch of small knicks scratches.

WOW again! I don't want to sound gay or anything but you look hot in that suit Bob. I didn't even notice there were girls in that pic at first. And the comparison pic between you and the real suit are amazing, it took me a min. to figure out why you had such a weird pose, then I relized that was the real suit on a bad maniquinn.

Thanks Mark! I'm impressed you even noticed me in that picture considering the other eye candy in it with me.
