My MOW Jetpack painted by me

    Hey guys,

I am a newbie here and I just completed my very first paint project. First of all, I'd like to say that MOW's Jetpack is top notch! I would also like to thank all the boardmembers for the help. I used stormtrooperguy's reference photos and TK409's paint color scheme. Let me know what you guys think of the jetpack.

    Regards,

    Victor

Re: My MOW Jetpack painted by me

    Thanks guys,

I got a few quotes for the paintjob and I thought it was expensive, but let me tell you that after painting it myself, what you guys charge is cheap! It took me two full weekends to paint it. I've had some paint peel off, etc, and after doing it myself, I can now appreciate what you guys do. I used the masquepen masking fluid with the nib and that stuff works great! Aproblem I encountered was when I used the clear coat at the end. I used the matte finish from Rustoleum and it dulled it too much. I think the satin finish clear coat is much better.

believe it or not, I must have gotten lucky with my boba helmet. There is no pinch on the mandibles. I was concerned at first because of all the posts here but there was no problem with it. I posted a picture of it.

it's not as pronounced as on others, but it looks like there's still a bit of a pinch there to me.

I must also add that Delucksdesigns decals are awesome!! They make the jetpack! My Serenity aluminum parts have arrived and I will also be adding them to the jetpack. The quality of the stuff from the members of TDH is incredible!

    Too funny,

I'm on Bay 44th and Bath. I can walk to John's Deli. In fact, I'm there quite often, and I also hang out at the Cafe next door. I'm interested in trooping once I complete my costume.

    Regards,

    Victor

Re: My MOW Jetpack painted by me

I'm a newbie and I think I did a decent job. I used Stormtrooperguy's Magic of Myth as reference. I printed all the pictures of the jetpack for use as a reference. Here is the list of colors I used.

All the paints are Rustoleum brand.

    1) Royal Blue
    2) Farm equipment for the yellow color
    3) Claret Wine, and Burgundy for the rocket
    4) Heirloom white. I like this one because it is an off white and it is not as blinding.
    5) For the thrusters I used grey misted with heirloom white until I liked it.
    6) Flat black.
    7) Metallic silver

The masking fluid I used was masquepen. I liked it a lot. It worked really well.

Re: My MOW Jetpack painted by me

Yes, the rustoleum paints were spray paints. I forgot to add that I used grey primer first, then I painted the whole thing silver. Don't hold the can too close or you'll have streaks, take your time, spray slowly in bursts. I also sanded it down to make it smooth before painting. One thing I regret is using the Matte clear coat at the end. It made it too dull and I had to touch it up again. I think the Crystal Clear finish would be better at the end. I am still learning.
