Mounting RF Stalk to Resin RF

Well, thanks to Sarge I've got a ****** (soon to be) MH with the resin RF, and thanks to Terminal I now have a nice aluminum stalk. The problem, hopefully a small one, is that the mounting area for the stalk only leaves about 1/8 of an inch on either side of the RF and I'm afraid it's going to be a pain to Dremel and keep structural integrity on the resin... help!

Do I shorten/trim the mounting piece on the stalk? How have some of you done it?
