Mojo's FP ESB Paintjob (loads a pics)

Hey guys n gals,

I wasn't gonna post this thread as I was a tad nervous (to be honest) painting an albino lid is one thing but trying to paint and do the FP Armour justice is another...
But as I have been asked by a couple of buds here in blighty (Jon, Joe & Paul) to post , including a webbed friend

Here is a very 'quick' step by step photo gallery on how it looks at present, from Silver - weathering

I hope you like what I've done? and critique is more than welcome as the weathering is at a stage that more can be added?

Oh.. and before I forget! FP..cheers bro, this Armour is totally awesome! 8)

That is sooo nice Gavin - WOW !

I'm with Alex - it so cool to see all the gradient weathering and misting. Look how far have we come with this stuff as a collective !!! Back in the day, that was always forgotten or omitted because people couldn't tell if it was just lighting, or distortion through a plexi case. It's nice to see that people are catching on that it is very real !

I don't think I ever mentioned the Shoulders did I???

for Both, I use UP Armor Yellow as a base....yes, I know they are different.. but then I use the same color as the scratches Yellow Zinc Chromite as the next overlay color for the Left shoulder bell...
Then Reefer Orange for the orange tones on the right one..... and then the addtional tones and weathering throughout...

Paul, I bit the bullet and posted?

I've layed down some greens and additional weathering to the collar / cod pieces today.. (same process as above) will post pics tomorrow (batteries charging on camera)

Erm.. just allot of over spray from the layers? should I have painted it a specific colour...

I went for overspray on the reverse of my armour too....

Hey Gav meant to ask is your base coat the Dunklegrun? looks a lot lighter than the pics you sent me also what masking fluid did you use? Humbrol?

Nah the base coat is different.. allot lighter! I layed down my base coat (mix) then misted Olive green highlights.. then brown tones, then the grey/black scorch marks...

Consider this the MK2 version?
Masking fluid used was the Humbrol 'Maskol'... nice and purple so you can see where you have been?

Yeah that humbrol maskol is good stuff, just don't leave it for a few months and then go back to it thinking it'll be ok, it wont be, it ends up like porridge!!

Don't you love peeling off that mask and seeing how it turned out?

remember there's some additional weathering after you get the yellow on to help pull it all together..

Hey bud,
Depends on what type of 'spray' you mean? rattle can or airbrush? If the later again it can depend on where you are from? (sorry if this seems stupid) I'm in the UK and used various colours from what we can get over here?
If your in the good old USA then check out DM's thread as all the colours can be sourced from there?
Always remember too that depending on the eye, some custom mixes will be needed?

Hey, Your right Lot to consider. I'm in the US and I'm using airbrush, is the basic green penzer olive green?? Does the green match the helmet?? Sorry, Who is DM?? Can i look him up under Dm. Thanks for the info, Fetthappens

No worries bro... DM is DarthMiller and he is painting the ultimate ESB for JB himself? All the colours he is using is mentioned in his thread bud (I think)... The base is not Panzer but the lighter highlights are? then the grey/black mists and then the earth tones...

I'd be foolish to steer you in the wrong direction when DM can totally direct ya?

I'm waiting on my paint supplier to get his thumb out of his... and get my Zinc Chromate to me!

I've got my base coats onto my shoulders (will shoot ya some pics) but still need my YZC to spray onto the left shoulder...

Nah.... Altho when I got home last night, the postman had left a notice through the door saying that they had a package for me? So fingers crossed it's the zinc chromate and my RLM blue/green for the back of my lid!

So may post updates soon bud... also on our other home...

Good to hear your taking the helmet slow... So am I! I've got the FPH and I've got all the base colours down and started on the detailing...


I dunno about 3000 or even 5000 but If you need anything in particular I'm sure you will PM with more questions...

The left shoulder I started today with the airbrush weathering then topical detailing... but will have to post pics on Sunday as I'm off to Wembley tomorrow to watch Pompey win the semi finals... (Local team Football)

Filled the rear dent on the back plate too and will start the same paint process...
