Take a look at some of his knee armor and you will see by the time he is finished there will be no seams

I would assume some welding, grinding and polishing will take place?

    A few questions...

    1. Are you using tin snips to cut with?
    2. What are you using to keep the seams together?
    3. Are you going to make more of these?

    awesome work!

Ok no huge progress, but I pretty much have both tops done.now I have to start on the clamshells, flamethrower, and the right side piece.
Here are some updated pics.Of course things will look a lot better once the missile, calc, dental expander, ect are on it.

I'll add all the little switches, flamethrower nozzles, ect, ect, after the main parts are finished.
I plan on making everything on these myself, except for the calc pad , which i will need.I am going to attempt making the missile myself.
after these I will probably do up an ESB set.Hopefully the second time around goes a little quicker.lol

Thanks for all the compliments. They are always appreciated. Now to some more pics.I have painted the right gaunt finally. As always I went crazy with the weathering.I kinda did a mix of the MOM look with the darker more heavily weathered AOSW look, along with a little extra custom weathering. These are mine so I was not too concerned about accuracy.
still have to add the nozzles for the hoses, but that will come a bit later.
    Anyway, here we go,

I am going to paint up the left gauntlet today probably.the calc pad is not there but that can be added later.
I also did not have a dental expander so like everything else, I made my own .It is a bit crude, but it looks close, and when it is painted, no one will be the wiser.Just took a little scrap metal and went at it with the pliers.lol

Sorry! I'm still in work mode.

Standard Wire Gauge. I was wondering about material thickness basically.

    and GOOP!? whaaaaa!? That's ace!

did you have to adapt the WOF templates much or was it pretty straight fwd?

I might have a shot at these when the rest of the armour's done. All i'll need is a metal jet pack after that... dum dum duuuuuuum...

    Good job dude!

I did use the templates, but with metal it's never straightforward. You know that I'm sure.lol..Seems like when the project is all done, all the designs are different from the templates. They are a great starting point.I recommend that everyone with basic craft skills give these a shot. When it is all done it offers a wonderful sense of accomplishment.
Metal jet pack is another thing I wanna tackle, but I am having a hard time getting actual sizes from the templates.I cannot figure out how to print the templates to where they are actual size.
anyway, soon as my calc pad arrives, I will be posting the finished gauntlets in all their glory.I got the missile attached and weathered up real nice.I also did up the flamethrower nozzles to better match the exhibit pics.
    stay tuned.
Next project will be the ESB version, then I will try a set of jangos gauntlets.

    Hello,

They came out great and metal to boot!! Congrats!

The jet/rocket pack templates were updated a while ago to a PDF file format so that they will print out on standard 8"X11" paper so there is no longer any problems in print it out. Though you will have to peice the templates back together. It is 56 pages so make sure that the printer is loaded and ready to. Here is the link:

    http://home.comcast.net/~wizardoffli... Pack_SS15.zip

Give it a try and let me know if you have any issues.

Heres what how I printed mine.

After unzipping the files I then

    • Opened each sheet with Paint
    • Went to Page Setup in the File Menu
    • Turned off the Horizontal and Vertical centering
    • Changed margins to Left: 0.25 Right: 0.25 Top: 0.07 Bottom: 0.46 (actually if you just put in .01 for each value it changes to these automatically)
    • In Scaling: mark adjust to and use 140%
This worked well for me and made each square of the grid 1"x1"

It took a few tests (and quickly hitting cancel on the printer ) to get the 140% thing. If nothing major has changed on them since around June/July/August of last year (06) this will probably still work.

Metal Jet Pack build will be fun to watch!!!!

    Hello,

The jet pack templates were revised and converted to a PDF file to elliminate the printing problem folks were having. The link I posted above is to the new templates. The first few pages are not full size but are to show how to piece all the sheets together.

Thanks. No they are not that heavy at all, but they do weigh more than vacuformed or fiberglass gauntlets.Nice and solid.

I know this may be a bit of a redundant question, but you don't weld these, correct? When using a glue (goop) how do you get rid of the seams, and how well do they hold up?

I'm wanting to make a metal set for several reasons, but they're going to have functionality built in, so they need to not only be metal, but very sturdy as well.

    Thanks!

lets just say, to destroy these, you would have to stomp on them or beat em with a hammer.they are very strong.I have dropped em a few times, and they held up.
Now they are obviously not indestructable, so i would not recommend doing anything violent in them.lol
Goop when dry is extremely powerful.
and some seams are inevitable, but i hide them well, by shaving the corners and such with my dremel, and it gives it a smooth edge.I have 2 sets of ESB's that are almost complete and ready to go to the buyers.I'll let them speak for the quality.
I know i said i was going to post em then sell em, but these were purchased before completion by past customers/friends.
Anyway , the set that has the flamethrower I made attached will be posted soon.

Ok here is the ESB set that I just finished and shipped out.I know the wires are supposed to be certain colors, but I had red ones so that is what i used.As for darts, I went with the rivets, as they look good and have that beat up look to em.The dental expanders, I make myself so they too are metal.
the flamethrower was designed, and made by me from found items, all metal except for a couple parts which i made from wood.
    anyway, here goes.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you're one of my favorite artisans man! :thumbup

I love your work. I still have your original ESB armor from two years ago. I'm going to have to save up for some Wickedbeard gauntlets too!

Man, I have seen some metal gauntlet attempts before, but never any that looked so good. I know that getting the detail is much harder with metal, but those look as good as most of the vac formed and fiberglass gauntlets out there. Very well done my friend.

just curious, but would you be willing to make a custom pair? i'd love to have aluminum gauntlets (my entire armor set is going to be metal) and have found all the things i need except for the gauntlets. pm man, if you can do that.

WB are you lining the inside of the gauntlets with anything? I know you add backing to your chest armor, so I'm wondering if you do something similar to these?

Yes these are lined with the same material for comfort, and it also helps prevent slippage.

I just have to say that I finally received the ESB gauntlets---there is a crazy post story that I'll have to share with Wickedbeard later...all I can say is
    WOW!!!!!
Amazing all the way. They totally feel that they could be a practical gauntlet - not at all a costume piece. These are seriously Fett!!

You are an incredible artist! I am totally blown away.

Yes, those are beeeautiful indeed. Could you tell me what thickness you are using on those metal gauntlets? It seems that is is at least 0.08" (2mm) thick, if not thicker on some points. I'm pondering on starting on my own gauntlets, and I found out that the sheets that I have can be cut easily with power scissors.
    Great work on those indeed!
