Interest Thread - Laser Cut Armour

    EDIT:

I AM NOW TAKING ORDERS FOR BOBA FETT, JANGO FETT

    PM ME FOR DETAILS!!!

    Hello everyone,

Over the past few months, I've been experimenting with the CNC laser, and I was extremely satisifed with the way my suit of armor came out, everything seems perfect with the laser in control

I asked permission from WOF and I will be making Boba and Jango armour, full suits excluding the back piece due to the limitations of the laser. I could look into cutting those by hand though.

I'm not sure on price, it all depends on the price of Sintra, and the cost of using the laser.

I will try to get digital images as soon as I can. PM me the prices that you wish that the sets be charged at.

It can just just about anything, as long as it doesn't reach the limitations of the laser.

It seems more people are interested in Jet Pack pieces than the armour I'll have to see about that... for all I know the largest piece of the jet pack won't fit into the laser, I need to measure...

You could buy a cod by itself, but remember that it comes in two pieces, it's be your job to build up with the bondo. I recently finished my Boba fett cod, looks nice I suppose I could put it together for you, but I will also have to look into that

    • Specific sizes... this is something I thought about... set a direct size of 5'10" for example, or let me customize your armour... I'll have to talk to the man with the laser about that.

A Jango Fett back plate might be a little difficult to form due to the shape as it rounds...

Well, you could cut then form it in water or something.

I "could" assemble the items for you, but that would require a bit of Bondo The Jango knees are also a little more complicated than the Boba knees. I'm not sure if I have those templates... I'll have to ask Alan for the AutoCAD.

I also don't have any knee darts, you're on your own there.

These are pics of my personal armour.

    Fresh from the laser.

    Formed and primed.

Yes, that's what I usually do, but the Jango back piece has an upside down "U" as it comes to the back piece, that may be difficult to work with boiling water. The Boba Fett back should be fairly simple though..

Okay, we've got the go ahead. Let's start cutting some sintra!

I'm going to take the jet pack pieces in CAD I have over to his house, let's hope they fit into the laser... If we have enough plastic, we'll pump out one or two jet packs, I may have to cut one part by hand if it won't fit. I hope that won't be a problem!

Re: Interest Thread - Laser Cut Armour

    Hey everybody, a little update.

    ARMOUR
I have finished the Boba Fett armour templates, still without the knee pieces, I can't seem to find the .dwgs. I had to modify the WOF templates a little bit to add more accuracy. Boba's armour is rounded on the edges, where is the WOF templates were not. They are ready to cut, I will talk about price tomorrow.

JETPACK The jet pack is also a go with the laser, right now I am working on the WOF templates to make sure that they all work. I've been editing them all night x.x

    Expect another update tomorrow

A little late night update... it took about 4 hours, but the Jet Pack's body is all cleaned up and trimmed correctly. I wonder how much plastic this thing would take up? Hehe.

Well so far, the Boba Fett armour is ready and complete, ready for the laser, the jet pack is about 75% done, the rocket I'll leave for tomorrow. I also need to aquire the Jango parts from Alan.

Re: Interest Thread - Laser Cut Armour

I think it would be best if I put together this first jet pack, that way I can discover any errors in the mapping of the pieces and get them fixed for the run. You will also get to see what the jet pack looks like when it's completed, that way you won't be blind with what you'd be ordering. This will also give me the chance to make a tutorial on how to put the sucker together once you get handfuls of parts.

I remember when I started my Fett, I could not find anything about building a jet pack, I then ended up to do so myself out of trash cans, I hope to really help out others with an actual kit!

Sure! I'll take the shin tools I'd like to try them out, they look pretty simple to construct! I may make, "Boba Fett Kits" that sell the hardparts of the costume except for the helmet. I'm at school right now "writing an essay" so I'll be getting home in about an hour or so, that way I can take a look at the templates THANKS AGAIN ALAN!

bah! real troopers throw that **** away first thing

in this case though, i can see instructions being a good thing.

i'm already envisioning replacing the fiberglass body of my JP with this, and using my fiberglass rocket and thrusters.

do you know how large this pack will be when it's done? (15" vs 16".x?)

    I love that movie

But anyhow... what would roughly be the price on a set of armour? I'm yet another of these cheap young people who can't afford to waste much on hobbies.

And for those worrying about jet pack-assembly being too complicated... it's actually rather logical with parts from WoF's beautiful blueprints Even I managed to do it! No lasercut sintra though - dremelled sheet of pvc had to do.

I am looking to say around $150 per jet pack... Prices may vary though, but don't look much higher than that.

in this case though, i can see instructions being a good thing.

i'm already envisioning replacing the fiberglass body of my JP with this, and using my fiberglass rocket and thrusters.

do you know how large this pack will be when it's done? (15" vs 16".x?)
The height of the back plate of the jet pack is just under 14". 13.9" to be exact.
But with the central pipe running up the middle it's go a little higher. (un peu)

That laser is saving humanity many hours and thumbs. Unless of course you screw up putting it together. Doing this project on my pack i did things one at a time. If i would have had all that set out on the table honestly i would have been frightened to start. Mine is finished now and i am pretty happy with it. I haven't fully painted it because I am most likely going to mold it.

    I commend you

i caught the poor bug too

can you do the cod or back plate of the WoF size specific templates though? i could probably afford those (or one of those )

and I'd pay for the assembly/molding of the parts too. (I'm not that poor yet... i hope )

The Cod Piece would require a bit of Bondo, but it's possible, that's how I build mine... The back piece can be made in two passes as one single object. Cut one sheet, flip it around, mirror the object and cut it again $2 million dollars and the pieces are yours

I'll get real prices as soon as I cut a set of Boba armour... I'll be picking up Sintra TOMORROW.

Re: Interest Thread - Laser Cut Armour

I have more sintra as of yesterday, I can start selling Fett armour now... PM me if you are interested in Fett armour.

The jet pack will be a tad more longer, I want to finish the jet pack I have so I can finish the instruction booklet and to fix any errors I may find.

    It's quality control!!

Re: Interest Thread - Laser Cut Armour

I've been a tad lazy with putting the thing together, but here it is so far. I decided to replace the center core with a PVC pipe. I thought it would be too difficult for someone to curve a sheet of plastic, so I had to modify the plans just a little to fit the pipe.

Jet Packs are currently discontinued. My computer recently crashed, so I ended up to lose the instructions in the process. They will be up on the market once I get another jet pack cut, assembled, and photographed
